3 More bass released. Clean up the lake. 6/28/2020 9:47 PM

4 stock it with more variety of trout species brown, brook, lakers, salmon 6/26/2020 1:52 PM

5 Cleaning the area up there’s a lot of trash. 6/26/2020 5:30 AM

6 Regular trash cleanup along roadway and new system for rainwater drainage 6/26/2020 3:08 AM

7 Stock more often 6/25/2020 10:49 PM

8 Does not appear that Coes was stocked with trout this year. Clean up around the area of Mill 6/25/2020 10:29 PM Street (near the playground) is needed as casting is difficult with all the excess weeds and low branches.

9 Check for valid fishing license. To many non-license fisherman keeping over limit. 6/24/2020 9:58 AM

10 Trash receptacles or better monitoring of littering. The place is a dump and always so much 6/7/2020 8:20 PM debris from careless guests - guests who come to the Coes trail to hang out, not to fish.

11 Have a ranger there to make sure people aren't taking fish that ain't regulation size or of the 5/26/2020 7:32 AM water

12 Clean up the water and stock more trout 5/24/2020 10:11 AM

26 More fish and healthier 3/15/2020 12:36 PM

27 Less trout 2/27/2020 12:21 PM

28 The variety of fish has dropped off substantially in what feels like a few quick years. I’ve 2/27/2020 7:10 AM fished this lake for 20+ years and rock bass, small mouths, and crappie populations have taken a large hit. Rock bass and small mouth bass in particular are now rather uncommon to catch. Fish in lake Quinsigamond are also stunted in growth. Bass and pickerel especially are much smaller on average and less active, which as the apex predators (given the very minute presence of pike and the loss of tiger Muskie from the lake) is not a good sign for the overall health of the lake. Perch population is massive. There feels like there are more perch in this lake than any other fish and dropping a neutral non-targeted bait (such as a worm) is more likely to net a perch than any other fish. Similarly, compared to other fishing spots in these perch are plentiful, but very small.

29 lack of perch 2/27/2020 5:27 AM

32 Don’t fish Quinsigamond regularly to notice 2/26/2020 9:28 PM

33 Way more rock bass over the years. In general stunted growth of bass, very few big fish. 2/26/2020 9:11 PM

34 The pickerel population seems to dominate 2/26/2020 8:41 PM

35 Weed kill has effective the fish habitat that the smaller fish live in. 2/26/2020 7:21 PM

# RESPONSES DATE 1 trash removal..cleaner water 6/30/2020 12:30 PM

2 There isn't much access 6/29/2020 12:08 PM

3 More fish 6/29/2020 10:22 AM

4 Treat the milfoil. Patrol the area and cut down on the boat traffic on the flint pond side 6/28/2020 9:49 PM

5 Easier access points, such as docks or some sort of pier. 6/28/2020 7:44 PM

6 Assign more EPO to quinsig. There are many people that take more than the legal limit and 6/28/2020 7:41 PM fish with out a license.

7 Open up more spots to fish over growth at a lot of off shore fishing spots has hampered 6/28/2020 4:37 PM access

8 Ban jet skis to residents only. Dredge parts of Round Pond. 6/28/2020 8:27 AM

9 Clean it up , kill weeds 6/28/2020 5:36 AM

10 Major trash cleanup on shore, to be done by residents, h.s. groups, volunteers etc. 6/27/2020 6:47 PM

11 stocking and no weed kills 6/27/2020 5:40 PM

12 stocking more and less weed kills 6/27/2020 5:33 PM

13 Fines for those that leave trash 6/27/2020 2:11 PM

14 Start a share lunker program to improve the quality of the fish. Support large scale bass 6/27/2020 1:57 PM tournaments like you do for events. Talk to other Chambers of Commerce (eg Ticonderoga NY) - they can talk you how they support these events and the revenue it generates in return. Ban large boats with wake boards that make 3-5 foot waves and swamp smaller boats or institute no-wake zones.. Enforce boating laws so the lake is not so dangerous. Add separate areas for people to launch kayaks so they do not tie up the boat ramps.

15 Cleaner water and fishing spots 6/26/2020 11:09 AM

16 Clear brush away for shore fishing 6/25/2020 11:20 PM

17 Keep large groups of people from cold mine brook area Boats and jet skis dock and scare the 6/24/2020 7:15 PM fish away This was a great place to fish. No so the last two years

18 Check for Valid fishing license and monitor trash around lake 6/24/2020 10:01 AM

19 I have no idea 6/13/2020 10:19 PM

20 Unsure 6/9/2020 7:45 PM

21 Stocking lake quinsigamond would improve fishing and testing the water quality would also 6/9/2020 3:44 PM help. Fish also need enough vegetation for food and cover and make sure there is enough aeration so the oxygen levels are high and the water is circulated

22 Trash cans 6/5/2020 8:40 AM

23 Open up more space to the anglers and public, stock more largemouth bass and trout!!!!! 5/27/2020 4:51 PM

24 Make better pathways to water 5/27/2020 1:13 PM

25 Make fishing areas more accessible 5/24/2020 10:13 AM

26 Aquatic weed control, stocking of northern pike and tiger musky as forage perch population 5/23/2020 9:57 PM seems enourmous

27 Stop the cookouts with Jet Skis and Boats docking at Coaline Brook Area This was a GREAT 5/23/2020 12:03 PM Fishing spot but not anymore

28 Add more fishing piers/docks along the overgrown shores. 5/22/2020 8:59 AM

29 Better concentration on the quality and health of the game fish. 5/22/2020 8:08 AM

30 Implement some sort of share lunker program. Stock smallmouth bass. Stop sewerage from 5/22/2020 6:31 AM

21 / 67 Angler Survey of Worcester Lakes & Ponds

running into lake. Areas between Flint Pond and main lake are gradually filling with sediment that covers gravel bottoms that may attract fish. Dredge these areas so they are returned to their original state. Reintroduce food sources (bait) that used to be in the lake. If fishing tournaments are only allowed on a limited basis or a certain number of times a year then the same should be true for rowing events. These make it difficult to fish the lake. Ban jet skis. Institute no wake zones.

31 Unknown 5/21/2020 8:45 PM

32 Unknown 5/21/2020 8:22 PM

33 nothing the problem with Quinsig is over fishing & over use. I have not truly fished it in a few 5/21/2020 2:30 PM years

34 make fishing docks for people who don't have boats 5/21/2020 1:18 PM

35 Sand bar in front of Coal mine Brook needs to be addressed. Not only is it a boating hazard, 5/21/2020 1:01 PM but fish have a difficult time entering to spawn during low water draw down. I believe that if this was excavated , it would improve the fishing and enhance the fish population. Years ago smelt could easily enter to spawn, now since the smelt population has drastically declined from the brooks access. Not only at Coal mine but the other tributary brooks that enter the lake.

36 Dredge the opening in front of Coal mine Brook the sand bar has really effected the fish from 5/21/2020 12:34 PM entering it to spawn

37 Monitoring of catch and release a lot of people do not daily limits are 5/21/2020 12:03 PM

38 More fish 5/21/2020 10:35 AM

39 Stock more fish Limit power boats Limit boats Limit fishing temporary 5/21/2020 9:38 AM

40 add bullheads, more lake trout, stock it better. 5/21/2020 9:08 AM

41 More stocking 5/21/2020 9:08 AM

42 CHECK FOR LICENSED ANGLER'S. NEED MORE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICE. LOCALS 5/20/2020 8:50 AM CONTINUE TO TRASH THE SHORE LINE

43 WHEN IT COMES TO THE TROUT FISHING, IT COULD GET STOCKED MORE. BUT 5/20/2020 8:25 AM THERE IS ALWAYS SO MUCH ACTIVITY ON THE LAKE WITH SPEED BOATS, CREW, AND JET SKIS, AT TIMES IT CAN MAKE IT HARD TO FISH.

44 Stop the Locals from littering and check licenses. 5/19/2020 4:58 PM

45 Police the only dock on the lake it's a mess when it's busy . Enforce the no wake zones the jet 5/19/2020 2:50 PM skiers are out of control This lake needs at least one other dock.

46 We need another dock We need to enforce the no wake zone. The jet ski people are out of 5/19/2020 2:48 PM control. Someone needs to police the only dock on the lake

47 More accessible fishing spots and parking. 5/19/2020 2:36 PM

48 Better public access, continued efforts to improve water quality, speed limits/enforcement 5/19/2020 12:05 PM against speedboats and jet skis

49 Some kind of fishing pier for kids/disabled would be great. Any water quality improvements 5/10/2020 12:54 PM would also be nice.

50 Increase Game Warden activity. Bring back the stocking of Salmon in Quinsig. Increase the 4/28/2020 11:59 AM amount of public access for the shore fishermen.

51 Remove the weeds and make more fishing accessible areas to fish at all around the lake. 4/26/2020 11:12 AM Some areas are dangerous and hard to access especially when there is a lot of people fishing.

52 Better visibility of fishing sites or programs to encourage fishing. 4/18/2020 10:50 PM

53 Cleaned 4/10/2020 4:21 PM

54 Take out bushes at the old beach accross from the old fallon clinic near the highway bridge. 3/30/2020 11:51 AM

55 Other than Regatta Park,in particular Coal Mine Brook area is full of garbage. In addition,no 3/15/2020 12:40 PM one checking fishing licenses. I believe once that happens garbage will be reduced and we

22 / 67 Angler Survey of Worcester Lakes & Ponds

who have licenses feel respected

56 Keep the water clean. 3/7/2020 8:23 AM

57 Open up more shoreline fishing access. 3/2/2020 12:00 AM

58 Take the Regatta Point fence down. Limit rowing. 2/27/2020 3:21 PM

59 Ban jet skiis, create max horsepower law, control sewage spills and stormwater better 2/27/2020 12:23 PM

60 The number of boats on the lake at any given time is too high. The effluents from running 2/27/2020 7:15 AM motorboats constantly on the lake has really taken its toll in the form of invasive plants and clams (MASSIVE PROBLEM FOR NATIVE PLANTS AND FISH POPULATIONS). Additionally, run off from other sources should be considered as too nutrient rich waters is unhealthy for the overall environment. This could be from fertilizer runoff or other sources, but whatever the cause there are some variables causing explosive vegetation growth in the lake that is choking the life out of these fish populations.

61 Slow the other boats down, i almost get killed every weekend so i just give up in July 2/27/2020 5:28 AM

62 Stock more trout, control the weeds on each end 2/26/2020 10:42 PM

63 Increase water quality Maybe add more northern pike again to bring the yellow perch numbers 2/26/2020 9:34 PM down

64 Ban jet skis 2/26/2020 9:29 PM

65 Ban jetskis 2/26/2020 9:23 PM

66 Stop chemical weed kills, it destroys the fishing. I also question the effectiveness of lowering 2/26/2020 9:15 PM the water in the winter. Slightly high water levels in summer would help fishing too, putting more cover in the water and letting fish hide under existing weeds in flint or half moon. Possibly a small fish cull or stocking program of big bass would be good too.

67 Stock it with more Bass 2/26/2020 8:54 PM

68 Limit pickerel population. Control weeds 2/26/2020 8:41 PM

69 Get rid of the jet skis!!! They are out of control and no one ever around to stop them. 2/26/2020 8:29 PM

70 Stop killing the lillypads that are natural too the lake 2/26/2020 7:22 PM

4 More access points in the warmer seasons, vegetation starts to block off. 6/28/2020 7:48 PM

5 More stocking of fish 6/28/2020 3:19 PM

6 Rid of the evasive weed Maybe stock once every other year 6/28/2020 9:26 AM

9 preserve more like species, species that were years ago and are no longer displayed again, I 6/27/2020 12:45 AM would like to see Bass and pike with good sizes, controlling people with jet ski runs too close to the banks and people fishing from kayak

10 Water quality needs to improve and better habitats 6/26/2020 3:16 PM

11 Watch the trash being thrown in and around the water. 6/24/2020 10:03 AM

12 Stock more fish. 6/9/2020 7:47 PM

13 Some restrictions on jet skis, which are often operated without regard for non-powered 6/9/2020 3:40 PM watercraft. The lake is very weedy and tough to fish by mid summer.

14 Designated fishing areas on the coast 6/9/2020 1:08 PM

15 Stock it more 5/26/2020 12:08 PM

16 Add artificial structure closer to shore to attract more bait fish which will attract more game 5/22/2020 9:01 AM fish. these can be as simple as 3 pallets tied together and weighed down with some cinder blocks.

17 Fishing should be a priority in all Worcester lakes and ponds. An activity people of all ages and 5/22/2020 8:13 AM incomes can enjoy.

19 Monitoring people on lake very crowded 5/21/2020 12:05 PM

22 This lake could be monitored better, I go here less and less because I always see people 5/20/2020 8:30 AM leaving trash around. Unlicensed people crowding the area and making it difficult for those that actually pay for a license.

23 The weeds are out of control. 5/19/2020 6:49 PM

24 Check fishing license and stop the littering and Drug deals. 5/19/2020 5:02 PM

25 Less motorboats traffic. Reduce motor size allowed to reduce silt and cloudy water 5/19/2020 4:05 PM

26 Continue water quality improvement efforts 5/19/2020 12:07 PM

27 Increase spots for shore fishing. Increase Game Warden & or Police activity to decrease 4/28/2020 12:13 PM possible lawbreakers and illegal fishing practices.

28 Public boat launch should be re-located to Shore Drive. There should be a HP limit and a 4/20/2020 11:29 AM speed limit. More patrols are needed to ensure PWC / jetskis stay at least 20 ft from shore. [ ideally, they would be banned ]. You can't enjoy fishing with powered, noisy boats racing around the lake coming too close to shore ..... CONSTANTLY. You can't enjoy your backyard never mind the water.

3 Carp are becoming less as well as the trout. 6/28/2020 1:58 PM

10 I've noticed especially in Bullheads a blackish slick tar like growth especially around the mouth 4/28/2020 12:32 PM area. I assume once it hits their gills it kills them. I've seen it here & there on bass as well. I've caught Yellow Perch & Pickerel covered in black specks. Also have caught ssomeYellow Perch with small whitish seed like growths all over their fins & on their gills. Not sure what these afflictions are. I'd like for more public information on possible infections, diseases or afflictions one might encounter on the fish they catch. I think it is wise to educate our local fishermen on these and the best way to do that is to have the information posted at all bodies of water & information given as well via a pamphlet to everyone obtaining a fishing license.
