The Silver Surfer Story/Outline
THE SILVER SURFER STORY/OUTLINE DRAFT 1 “BATTLECRY” WRITTEN BY LARRY BRODY TEASER 1. EXT. THE SOUL MASTER DIMENSION. A scene we’ve witnessed before—but a more pleasant version this time. It’s the SILVER SURFER, SHALLA BAL, and the VIRAL OVERMIND, working together to save Zenn-La and the rest of the planets in this dimension. Except that this time Shalla Bal is not left behind. Instead, she makes it through just in time, rushing into the Silver Surfer’s arms! The Surfer starts to kiss her, and now Shalla Bal vanishes, only her voice remaining, crying out that she is in a dark, frightening place, and begging for the Surfer’s help in getting her out. 2. EXT. SPACE NEAR ZENN-LA. The Surfer soars all around, searching—and awakens to discover that he is flying upward from the now safe Zenn-La…and that everything that just happened was a dream. Yet even now he hears Shalla 2 Bal calling to him, her voice fading out only after the dream has ended. 3. As the Surfer ponders this, he realizes that he is hearing another distress call through a COM BEAM. It’s the leader of a group of REFUGEES, fleeing from a planet that has just fallen to the KREE EMPIRE, and asking for a safe haven. Right behind the Refugees is a KREE FLEET, and the pursuers begin FIRING THEIR ENERGY WEAPONS, hitting not only the Refugees but the Silver Surfer as well! He’s hit again and again in rapid succession, reeling weakly to one knee, as we FADE OUT. -

Chapter 3: “Writing Itself Is a Game:” the Literacies of City of Heroes
ABSTRACT ―BUT THAT‘S NOT WRITING:‖ THE LITERACIES, COMMUNICATION AND COMPOSING PRACTICES OF CITY OF HEROES GAMERS by Phill Alexander This paper reports on an eight participant person-based study designed to investigate the literacies and writing practices of adults who play the Massively Multiplayer Online Role- Playing game City of Heroes. The study consisted of an initial survey followed by an interview and an online gaming session wherein the researcher observed the gamers in their native environment. The paper elaborates considerably on the methods used to gather data. The results are presented in contrast to the gaming studies work done by James Gee (2004, 2006), the literacy work of Stuart Selber (2004) and Cynthia Selfe (2007), and the genre theories of Amy Devitt (2004) and Carolyn Miller (1984). The abbreviations used herein follow. The letter D, followed by a number, indicatesthat the character was mentioned in that issue of DRAGON® Magazine (issues #88 to #198). The letter P, followed by a number, indicates the given issue number of POLYHEDRON Newszine in which a character was mentioned (issues #18 to #61). Some products listed did not mention specific heroes or villains, but are included here to show the complete line of MARVEL SUPER HEROES game products. In cases where character entries occupy multiple pages, the page number given denotes the beginning page of the character entry. Note that this index ONLY includes characters published under the TSR "FASERIP" system; it does not include source material for the SAGA or any other subsequent incarnation of the Marvel RPG, or unpublished "vaporware" works in progress that were never commercially released, etc. This index also does not include various issues of the Marvel-Phile and other publications which do not include character information (for example, the various Ultimate Power Book addenda, Q&A, and the character indexes themselves) although some of those articles do include non- character stats (e.g., Marvel Universe technology, or real-world miltary generic stats). The TSR-produced miniatures sets are likewise not listed, because why the heck would you need to look those up? This document brings together excerpts of the original writings of 20th century pioneers in constructive developmental psychology. Six developmental lines as described by these leading researchers are covered: Cognition (Jean Piaget, Michael Commons, Francis Richards, Herb Koplowitz, Sri Aurobindo); Self-Identity (Jane Loevinger, Susanne-Cook Greuter); Orders of Consciousness (Robert Kegan); Values (Clare Graves, Don Beck, Chris Cowan, Jenny Wade); Morals (Lawrence Kohlberg); and Faith (James Fowler).
