Aunque las condiciones para la práctica de la escalada en cascadas de hielo no fueron las mejores, algunas cordadas consiguieron realizar algunas de las clásicas del Mur du Cirque, disfrutando de la grandiosidad de Gavarnie y reconociendo, de nuevo, que es uno de los centros mundiales para la escalada en hielo durante los meses de invierno. Las actividades de escalada estuvieron acompañadas por otros actos durante las tardes de esos días, así pues el viernes 17 el Alpinista Jordi Tosas nos ofreció una conferencia sobre actividades de alpinismo muy rápidas y alpinas, todo un estilo de alpinismo de vanguardia que requiere gran preparación técnica, física y mental para acometer las dificultades y los objetivos que fueron mostrados.

El GAME tras unos años de distinto planteamiento, ha regresado al formato de los viajes monográficos, en este caso para escalar en hielo en una de las mejores zonas del mundo. Fueron bonitos y muy fríos días los que el grupo de 16 glaciaristas tuvo en tierras canadienses, todos ellos miembros del GAME. El viaje se desarrolló sin mayores contratiempos y el grupo llegó a Canmore (Alberta) donde estableció su Campo Base de actuación. Actuación que por cierto tuvo un gran radio de acción, de entre 100 y 400 km para llegar a los grandes objetivos previstos. El grupo cada día tuvo reuniones y puestas en común para hablar de las actividades realizadas y las futuras escaladas, aproximaciones, condiciones, dificultades, etc. El grupo contó con el asesoramiento de Carlos Buhler, gran alpinista americano conocedor de la zona y que vive desde hace años en Canmore. Carlos ya colaboró con el GAME en años anteriores.

L’idea di organizzare una gara di skyrunning sulle meravigliose montagne che circondano la Val di Fassa e Canazei in particolare, si concretizza il 2 agosto 1998 con la prima edizione della competizione. Il percorso individuato dai due “inventori”, poi rimasto invariato nel corso degli anni, è e rimane il vero punto di forza della manifestazione; nessuno può rimanere indifferente di fronte al fantastico paesaggio ed al panorama mozzafiato che si presenta agli occhi degli atleti partecipanti e dei numerosi spettatori che li seguono. Le Dolomiti non hanno bisogno di presentazioni; tutto il mondo conosce quest’area esclusiva delle Alpi, ideale per la pratica dello sci, dell’arrampicata e del trekking. I luoghi affascinanti che fanno da contorno alla Dolomites Skyrace non hanno eguali; nonostante la gara si svolga in piena estate, spesso la neve fa la propria comparsa per rendere ancora più incantevole il paesaggio e più avvincente la sfida per raggiungere il traguardo. La gara parte nel centro di Canazei (1450mt) per arrivare al Piz Boè (3152mt) attraverso il passo Pordoi (2239mt), e ridiscendere di nuovo nel centro fassano con una spettacolare discesa lungo la Val Lasties. La prima edizione della Dolomites Skyrace vede la partecipazione di un centinaio di atleti e la vittoria di Fabio Meraldi, che con il tempo di 2h 08’40’’ mantiene il record della gara fino al 2005.
