The other 8 5/ 5 trend is just a growth in the 5/ number of families due to 7/2 6/ natural growth minus the losses due to potato famine 2/2 and massive emigration. 25/ 1/ 2

As far as DNA study, it would appear that getting samples from the far north and Carrickfergus families would tell us whether the 31 Mary Todd Lincoln pattern of the central area exists elsewhere in Antrim as well or is a local pattern.
