1 Tattooing in Auschwitz Annotated Bibliography Primary Sources: Nurnburg, International Military Trials. Natzi Conspiracy and Aggression, Volume 1. United States Government Printing Office: Washington, 1946. www.loc.gov This was a great primary source to find information to understand the why the Jewish people were treated in such a horrific manner. This had great information on the horrific treatment of the Jews in concentration camps. I used this document to explain why Jews were treated so badly. I also used this document to show what the Natzi’s did to the tattooed skin of the Jews. Books: Perl, Edith. Not Even a Number: Surviving Lager C-Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Motivational Press: Melbourne, 2017. This book was written by a survivor who lost her mother, brothers and four sisters at Auschwitz II. She described her story from her childhood, the camp, and living after. Her family came from Czechoslovakia, a small town that she felt would be safe and how quickly and radically her life changed. It has taken her all of her life, over 70 years to process what happened to her family and how her mother saved her. She was the only one to survive the Holocaust from her family and I used it for quotes in my project. Despite more than 75 years of separation from the Holocaust, AMerican readers are still fascinated with the subject. In her book A Thousand Darknesses: Lies and Truth in Holocaust Fiction, Ruth Franklin mentions the fear of “Holocaust fatigue” that was discussed in 1980s and 1990s AMerican media, by which she meant the worry that AMericans had heard too about the Holocaust and could not take any more (222). This, Franklin feared, would lead to insensitivity from the general public, even in the face of a massive tragedy such as the Holocaust. After all, in his 1994 book Holocaust Representation: Art within the Limits of History and Ethics, Berel Lang estiMates Holocaust writing to include “tens of thousands” texts, spanning fiction, draMa, MeMoir, poetry, history monographs, and more (35). -

This musical comedy, focusing on a high school glee club, incorporates numerous stereotypes and real-world teenage struggles. This thesis focuses on the queer characteristics of four female personalities: Santana, Brittany, Coach Beiste, and Coach Sue. I investigate how their musical performances are producing a constructive form of mass media by challenging hegemonic femininity through camp and by producing relatable queer female role models. In addition, I take an ethnographic approach by examining online fan blogs from the host site Tumblr. Glee and Flash Mobs 1 Glee, Flash Mobs, and the Creation of Heightened Realities In May of 2009 the television series Glee (Fox, 2009-2015) made its debut on the Fox network, in the coveted post-American Idol (2002-present) timeslot. Glee was already facing an uphill battle due to its musical theatre genre; the few attempts at a musical television series in the medium’s history, Cop Rock (ABC, 1990) and Viva Laughlin (CBS, 2007) among them, had been overall failures. Yet Glee managed to defeat the odds, earning high ratings in its first two seasons and lasting a total of six. Critics early on attributed Glee’s success to the popularity of the Disney Channel’s television movie High School Musical (2006) and its subsequent sequels, concerts and soundtracks. That alone cannot account for the long-term sensation that Glee became, when one acknowledges that High School Musical was a stand-alone movie (sequels notwithstanding).
