Circus Report, July 30, 1979, Vol. 8, No. 31 JATQRITE, 8th Year July 30,1979 Number 31 Illinois Gets Tough Motorists in Illinois will have to pay more attention to their speed as the state resorts to "uncon- ventional methods" to nab speeders. The state highway police are sending out plainclothcs police in highway road-mowers, dump trucks and unmarked cars to spy on the motorist. They radio information about speeders to a uniformed trooper in a marked car who then stops the motorist and gives him a ticket The State Department of Law Enforcement says it is going to "pull out all the stops" in an effo, t to crack down on motorists who exceed the 55 m.p.h. speed limit. "The bottom line for all drivers, pro- fessional and private, is facing the possibility that any vehicle they see moving or stopped along the highway could be occupied by a trooper with radar," says Dan K. Webb, state law enforcement officer. Webb also said there has been Gov. James R. In the midst of a steady rain Circus Galaxy folded in that .city on May 9th. Early this year announcements about the circus indicated it would rival the best shows on the road. Phone crews started their San Antonio promotion about two months ago. While they were vague about the show's name they were positive it was a "large tented show" with the best of everything. CFA's who saw the circus at Victoria described it as "a small show" with no show owned equipment. They called it strictly "a drum and organ show" with the Oscarian Family and some Mexican performers. Six performances were scheduled for San Antonio, but prior to the first show, performers were told they (Continued on Page 16) A VAILABLE fOP LIMITED ENGAGEMENTS HOLLYWOOD ELEPHANTS Contact JUDY JACOBSKAYE Suit* 519 • 1680 North Vine Street • Hollywood, California • 90028 Area Code 213 • 462-6001 Page 2 The Circus Report American Continental by MIKE SPORRER The 1976 circus season got off to a big start with the arriv- al of the American Continental Circus at Seattle, Wash. February 15, 1982 SABO'S CHIMPS on TV's "Saturday Night Live" Show Adriatic Animal Attractions, Inc. Josip Marcan - President For the 1981 and 1982 season, my new mixed act of lions and tigers has been exclusively contracted by the Hawthorn Circus Corp. for bookings. But the ani- mals and equipment remain solely owned by me. However, I have trained and added to my act - 8 ti- gers belonging to the Hawthorn Circus Corp., enlarg- ing my act to 19 animals. My enlarged act shall be re- ferred to as: Marcan's Mixed Lions and Tigers Com- bined with the Hawthorn Tigers. Due to the fact that the Hawthorn Circus Corp. al- ready owns an act referred to as the "Hawthorn Ti- gers", it has become necessary to distinguish the dif- ference of the act which I own and the Hawthorn act. I hope this will clarify the ownership and billing of my act. Sincerely, Josip Marcan Page 4 SHOW DATES ', Mail room Ringling-Barnum - Blue The Post Office recent- Feb 17-21 Richmond, Va ly returned Circus Reports Ringling-Barnum • Red addressed to the following Feb 10-21 Atlanta, Ga, people.
