BEAUTY AND SPA THERAPY AS A CAREER.

Beauty and SPA therapy are both challenging and fascinating careers. Two major elements influence the success of graduates in this expanding industry.  their natural personality which should be sympathetic and caring;  the foundation of a thorough and professional training in all aspects of the beauty and health industry.

The beauty therapy industry is high tech, methodical and business related, yet it is also a human and caring profession. It can frequently be very demanding, but it is always rewarding. Graduates of Hyde Park College of Skin, Body and SPA Therapy are constantly in demand for top posts in all areas of the profession in , Australia and also around the world because of their International qualifications.

Self-Employment An option many Graduates take up after a period of working for someone else to gain valuable experience. After working with an already experienced team members and Employer, they may choose to set up their own salons or Spas. Creativity and organisational skills are important.

Day SPAS and Destination SPAS The ability to work as part of a team is essential with this type of position. There may be more emphasis on body related treatments and as many positions tend to be residential, it is important to have tolerance, patience and adaptability.

Beauty Therapy Salons All aspects of your training will be utilised in this sector, with possibly more emphasis on facial and body treatments carried out on a regular clientele. Luxury Hotels In today's stressful environment, more emphasis is being placed on relaxation and leisure. Many prestigious and newly built hotels now offer health and beauty facilities. Often you will be dealing with an international, sophisticated clientele who will be well aware of the latest treatments available worldwide. They demand the highest of standards as taught at Hyde Park College of Skin, Body and SPA Therapy. Cruise Liners Described by some as a ‘working holiday - albeit very hard work! It can prove to be a good way to see the world and the off duty atmosphere is quite often relaxed and informal. Mental and physical stamina, as well as the ability to work as a close team with a sense of humour are of paramount importance. Generally experience and a minimum age of 21 are required. In-Flight Therapists This is a relatively new concept that is proving extremely popular. At present only positions with Virgin Airlines on long haul flights are available, but other major airlines are expected to follow Virgin's lead. Upper class passengers receive complementary manicures and a combination of Swedish, Pressure point and Shiatsu Massage to effectively relieve tension and jet lag. The ability to work in the confined space available on-board is important as is the personality to enable the therapist to communicate with the wide variety of passengers on-board.

Recruitment age is 20-28 and applicants must have salon experience.

I emigrated from the UK in December 2008 leaving behind a 15 year career in accounting to start studying at Hyde Park College for the prestigious CIDESCO qualification. I visited college the year prior to commencing my training and was immediately impressed with the facilities and the friendly atmosphere I encountered. I was nervous starting my studies as I hadn’t taken on any further education since I was at school, all those years ago!, but was made feel welcome and put at ease from day one. The training I received was excellent; tutors were knowledgeable and always wanted to give extra time to go through things in more detail if needed. The support and encouragement around exam times was also invaluable, and I really think that helped me pass all of my International and Hyde Park College examinations. Before leaving college I was offered a number of positions as the Hyde Park College name precedes itself, and the training they offer. I eventually took at job at Endota Day Spa, and started work part time before exams were finished. Once exams were completed I ended up with a full time position. I love my job; it is hard work, but so rewarding and satisfying. I have finally found my passion and vocation, and want to continue working and learning in the beauty industry. Louise Power 2009

I was a student of Hyde Park College in 2001. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the college graduating with a Diploma in Beauty Therapy, CIDESCO Diploma in Beauty Therapy and CIBTAC Face and Body Diplomas also. I believe the close learning environment and the delivery of training definitely gave me an advantage, moulding me into a successful beauty and spa therapist. Since graduating at the college I have been lucky enough to extend my career through various roles including spa manager for Jurlique North Adelaide and Holdfast Shores Wellness Sanctuary, returning to the college to assist in the administration of the college and business studies for the students and eventually branching off and opening my own skin and body therapy clinic which I am the sole proprietor. I do believe that the college gave me a platform for my career and I have never questioned my choice of choosing Hyde Park College. Louise Terry 2001

I attended Hyde Park College of Skin and Body Therapy in 2009. I received my CIBTAC Diploma and my International CIDESCO Diploma for Beauty and Spa Therapy. I had a job secured before I finished my course and within three months I was made Manager of Revive Body and Soul in Grange, Adelaide. Hyde Park College gave me so much confidence and knowledge of the Beauty Industry. The training in both practical and theory was very thorough and a lot of hard work, but completely worth it. I am now recognised Internationally as a highly trained Skin, Body and SPA Therapist and I can work anywhere in the world! Thank you to Hyde Park College lecturers and to Principal Dianne Miles, I couldn't have done this without you! Samantha O'Connell 2009

Graduating from Hyde Park College of Beauty Therapy has certainly opened many opportunities and job prospects for me. After finishing my training in Adelaide I returned home to after successfully completing my CIBTAC and CIDESCO International examinations. I received my International diplomas and qualifications and it is such a great feeling to present my resume to potential employees. I was able to gain employment very quickly upon returning home and I am currently working at Mt Romance Santal Signature Spa in Albany, WA. Obtaining these International diplomas at Hyde Park College certainly gives you the edge. Gina Soumelidis 2009

Hyde Park College of Skin and Body Therapy provided me with extensive theoretical and practical skills and valuable CIDESCO International and British recognised CIBTAC beauty therapy diplomas. This has enabled me to travel and partake in extra training in London at Steiner before embarking onboard several luxury cruise liners working as a beauty therapist cruising the South Pacific Islands and Mediterranean seas. I have been fortunate enough to gain spa and hydrotherapy experience working in the day spa in the Whitsundays on Daydream Island Resort and Spa. Throughout my career as a beauty therapist I have worked in various salons, met amazing friends and wonderful contacts. I am lucky enough to also be able to co operate my beauty skills into my life at home now while caring for my young son. I would recommend the International qualifications and training at Hyde Park College of Skin and Body Therapy to anyone who is serious about a career in the Beauty and SPA Industry. “I graduated from Hyde Park College in 2002. My year of college was an absolutely fantastic year not just because we were studying for our careers but because it was great environment. We had a lot of fun but it was also very challenging and interesting. At the time I wasn’t aware how much the industry had to offer or how far it would take me. It has been more than I expected. As a CIDESCO therapist I have been fortunate enough to work on a cruise ship through the Caribbean, live and work in London for two years and travel throughout Europe. Dianne was a great help in securing my position on the cruise ship which although very hard and challenging made me the therapist I am today and opened up so many other doors and opportunities.” I have worked in many exclusive resorts off the Australian coast including Hayman Island, Bedarra Island, Dunk Island and in the centre of Australia at Uluru. I am now the Spa Supervisor at Cradle Mountain Lodge, . Katie Northcott 2002

The reason I chose Hyde Park College of Skin and Body Therapy for my study is because I'd heard about the extremely high standard of the graduates and also that if my resume had Hyde Park College on it I would be chosen above any other beauty therapists looking for employment. And it turned out to be true because recently I begun looking for employment well before I have completed my Long Distance Learning course and my first choice of workplace offered me a job the day I walked in. I have been working at Isis Day Spa and Salon in Port Lincoln since February and it's nice to be able to start a new job with confidence and plenty of knowledge. I would recommend the college to anyone and everyone who is looking for employment in the Beauty and SPA industry and for me it was worth the long drive! Rhiannan Loudoun 2009/2010.

I attended Hyde Park College in the year 2000, when we had the white dresses with the lovely orange sashes! That year was an amazing year for me, I made so many life long friends whom I see still now, and I sat the CIDESCO exams and achieved highest practical marks, which I was very proud of. I have had a fantastic career in the beauty industry, learning from some wonderful people. I am now a mother of two and still working in the industry but now part time, it is such a fantastic industry to work in, continually challenging and pleasing to be helping people look and feel better. I have been a Massage Therapist for 4 ½ years and began my career by gaining employment at Day Dream Island SPA in the Whitsundays which I really enjoyed. After leaving Day Dream Island I returned to Adelaide and began applying for a few SPA positions. Unfortunately due to only having massage therapy qualifications I was not as successful as I would have liked. It was then I decided to look into the Beauty Therapy side of training to increase my job prospects. After looking at training at a few different Adelaide colleges I chose Hyde Park College of Skin and Body Therapy because of the International accredited diplomas they offer and also because of their reputation for solid Beauty and SPA therapy training. I was a bit tentative at first wondering what I had gotten into but quickly got into it and really started to enjoy it. I have already gained an International CIBTAC diploma for Beauty Therapy and will complete my CIDESCO Beauty and SPA Therapy diploma in December this year. When not studying at the College I am in part time employment in the Beauty and SPA Industry because of my International Beauty Therapy qualifications. I would recommend Hyde Park College to anyone that is thinking about it. It isn’t an easy course but highly enjoyable and very thorough. To be the best is never an easy road. Scott Lawrence 2009/2010

I graduated from Hyde Park College of Beauty Therapy nearly 20 years ago. I enjoyed every minute of it, even when exams were fast approaching. The support and knowledge from Dianne and her trainers was world class. They instilled in me a wonderful work ethic and an extremely high level of professionalism, preparing me for the workforce. My international qualifications opened doors that I would never have dreamed of. My CIDESCO certification enabled me to work in London for various salons, even having the opportunity to treat some famous faces!! Even now, many years later, I am still doing regular treatments for friends and family members. I would highly recommend Hyde Park College of Beauty Therapy to anyone who is thinking of pursuing a career in Beauty Therapy. Your education at the college will ensure a successful, opportunity filled career. Ann Marie Pfeiffer 1993

I completed my training a while back now in 2000! Starting in hairdressing & make-up first for 2.5 years & then moving into International Beauty Therapy training with Hyde Park College. I enjoyed every moment of training with Dianne Miles & the other staff. After working in many reputable Adelaide salons & Prestige make-Up counters, I then moved into freelance Make-Up for weddings etc. Now, I currently run my own Beauty Therapy & Make-Up business in a private studio from my own home. I have had this business now since September 2009 & it has been the best move I have ever made! A big THANKYOU to Dianne Miles & the team at Hyde Park College. I would not be where I am today without the training & support by you all. I always refer people to the college. It’s the best school by far! Good luck to all the new students. Olga Rowe 2000
