    BEN VAN OOSTEN DUDELANGE MARDI 15.10 Ben van Oosten beschäftigte sich eingehend mit der symphonischen französischen Orgel- ÉGLISE SAINT-MARTIN 20H15 musik. Seine Gesamteinspielungen der Orgelwerke von César Franck, Camille Saint-Saëns, Alexandre Guilmant, Louis Vierne, Charles-Marie Widor und Marcel Dupré wurden mit mehreren internationalen Schallplattenpreisen ausgezeichnet (u.a. Echo Klassik, Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Choc du Monde de la Musique und Diapason d’Or). Wegen Récital d’orgue par seiner Verdienste um die französische Orgelkultur erhielt Ben van Oosten 1980, 1987 und 1998 ehrenvolle Auszeichnungen durch die Société Académique Arts, Sciences, Lettres in Paris. Die französische Regierung erhob ihn in den Rang des Chevalier (1998) und Officier Ben van Oosten (2011) dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Im Jahre 2010 wurde er von der damaligen Königin der Niederlande, Königin Beatrix, zum Ritter in den Orden des Niederländischen Löwen LOUIS VIERNE (1870 – 1937) berufen. Although Bio-Art implies that Bio-Music would be one of its obvious sub- disciplines, the latter term has been much less frequently used. Nevertheless, there has been no shortage of projects that have brought together music and the biological sciences. Most of these projects have allowed the biological data to dictate to a large extent the sound produced, for instance the translation of genome or protein sequences into musical phrases, and therefore may be regarded as process compositions. Here I describe a Bio-Music process composition that derives its biological input from a visual representation of the expression pattern of the gene fushi tarazu in the Drosophila embryo. An equivalent pattern is constructed from the Scambi portfolio of short electronic music fragments created by Henri Pousseur in the 1950s. This general form of the resulting electronic composition follows that of the fushi tarazu pattern, while satisfying the rules of the Scambi compositional framework devised by Pousseur. The range and flexibility of Scambi make it ideally suited to other Bio-Music projects wherever there is a requirement, or desire, to build larger sonic structures from small units.     something old, something new FROM BASEMENT TO BARCHESTON Paul Hale This is the story of the organ now to be found in the delightful Warwickshire church at Barcheston. It begins in 1973, when Longstaff & Jones (Telford-based organ-builders and maintainers) advertised in the organ press that they would like to build a new, small pipe organ. Geoffrey Holroyde had yearned for some time for a small house organ for regular practice, so Longstaff & Jones were soon engaged to build for him a compact instrument, using direct-electric action. The successful design consisted of four ranks of pipes (and a quiet electronic pedal Bourdon) providing two manuals and pedals, with no couplers thereby avoiding too much extension with its attendant ‘missing notes’. In 1979, Geoffrey and his, by then, large family moved to a spacious Victorian four-storey house.
