Dear Kett (Year 10 Family), Many thanks for all of your ongoing support this term. We started off the term with a fantastic mixed sports event and BBQ, which was enjoyed by all. We will look to do something similar following exeat, as well as an event to celebrate the year group. Most year 10s have been fantastic with uniform, however at times we have had to speak to students about taking PRIDE in their appearance and the language they are choosing to use. Finally, from Tuesday 4th May, Day students will complete their Covid-19 lateral flow tests at home, while borders will be taking them in house after school. Please see page 11 for more details. We hope you have a lovely and safe exeat and we look forward to welcoming year 10 back on Monday evening for borders and Tuesday INSIDE THIS ISSUE for day students. This global event is designed for the top 30% of maths’ minds in the country and a certificate is only then issued to the best 40% of this group. This year we continued our proud tradition in this event by entering the online version and the best in Year 10 went to Henry Lo— 8 congratulations! RAMADAN This year we have two Year 10 students observing Ramadan in Kett. Here’s a few words from Ayman about his experience: “Ramadan is an Islamic Festival included within the 5 pillars of Islam that Muslims participate in. It is when you are restricted from eating or drinking from sunrise (which is usually very early morning) to sunset. We fast because it is spiritual/discipline, self control and sacrifice whilst also making you aware of the less fortunate people who have no food or water. It is also a month of getting closer to God through prayer and contemplation. It does make me able to restrain from eating food easier as eventually my body gets used to the fact for not drinking or eating for some time. The school has aided me significantly, and a big thank you to Mr Bales for aiding me with food and drink supplies with a mini refrigerator. Ramadan 2021 is set to end on the 12th May :)” 9 WYMONDHAM LIFE Club Time Venue Cricket Academy (£) 17:30-19:30 Cricket Nets Monday Free play 19:30-20:20 Courts/Astro Maths Foundation to Higher 15:50-16:30 IC12 CCF (Week B only) 16:00-17:30 IC2 Fans of Japan 16:00-16:45 IC1 Tuesday Concert Band 16:00-17:00 Tom Eaton LAMDA (£) 16:45-17:15 Drama Room Rounders 16:00-17:00 Field Weights 06:30-07:15 Weights Room Wednesday Cricket (Boys only) 16:00-17:00 Cricket Nets Further Maths GCSE (Invite only) 16:00-17:00 IC Classics & Mythology 13:10-13:40 IC10 Volleyball 16:00-17:00 Sports Hall / Kett lawn Thursday Athletics 16:00-17:00 Field Tennis Coaching (£) 17:05-18:00 Tennis Courts Friday Running 06:35-07:00 Meet by Kett back doors Weights 06:30-07:15 Weights Room Saturday Free play 16:00-17:00 Sports Hall/Astro Sunday Free Play 16:00-17:00 Sports Hall/Astro 10 INFO SAINSBURY’S DELIVERIES We have been informed that we are no longer able to sign for grocery orders for children under 18 years. If the company receives and tries to deliver to a person under 18 years they will not leave the delivery and will return the items to store. House staff are unable to sign on their behalf too. Our year 10 boarding students are under the age of 18 and have no parent here to sign for them. Due to issues with fraud it is Sainsbury’s policy and it will not change. Parents can still order items for delivery for their children, but they will have to phone the customer services teams to inform them of the special instruction and give their permission to deliver to College for a staff member to sign. HOME COVID-19 TESTING From Tuesday 4th May, Covid-19 Lateral flow testing will take place at home for day students. Boarders will complete testing in house after school. Day students have been provided with a kit containing 7 tests, and we ask that they complete 2 tests per week, and continue to log the results. If the result is positive, please follow government guidance, inform Kett staff by phone or email, and do not send your child to school. 11 1111 .
