Richmond Valley Council has already spent $944,000 in legal fees from 1999-January 2009, assuming by 2019 well in excess of $1 million dollars in ratepayer funds. The waste of our money on this unsustainable development needs to end. 2. Environmental concerns Koala - is a threatened species, who are losing natural habitat specifically in the Evans/Woodburn/Broadwater region as a result of land clearing for the highway, Iron Gates will displace and remove critical natural corridor that allows the koala & other species to migrate. The recent Bush Fires has accelerating the destruction of native habitat for the koala and other native species proceeding the tragic Rappville & Bora Ridge fires. Koala droppings were found on the perimeter of the proposed development site, a reasonable person knowing Koala’s move to find specific eucalypt trees to feed on would think they would move within the site boundary to source the specific trees they eat that are established within the proposed development site.

Byron Shire Visitor Proﬁ le and Satisfaction Report: Summary and Discussion of Results Introduction The Byron Shire Visitor Profi le and Satisfaction (VPS) project was completed as part of the Destination Visitor Survey Program (DVS) run by Tourism Research Australia (TRA), within the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. This project was undertaken by TRA—in partnership with Byron Shire Council and Destination New South Wales—to gain a better understanding of visitors to the region, including their motivations and satisfaction with their visit to the Byron Shire. This includes providing more reliable and detailed information on the region to assist with destination management including planning, development and marketing. Method The Byron Shire VPS project was conducted in the Byron Shire during April, May and June 2011. Two waves of face-to-face interviews were conducted: the fi rst in mid April during the New South Wales and Queensland school holidays and the second in early June. The research was conducted over two periods to capture peak and off-peak visitation which has resulted in two distinct visitor profi les. These differences will be discussed in the summary. It should also be noted that this is a snapshot of a specifi c time of the year which needs to be taken into account when considering the results and in subsequent discussions and planning. Since 2006, 76 VPS projects have been completed in Australian regional tourist destinations. Data from these projects have been collated to establish the VPS Benchmark Database. Benchmarks are the average of all (unweighted) VPS destination projects with at least 50 respondents.

There have been many reports in previous years on the village centre and this study draws on the experience gained to bring these ideas up to date with the current economic, political and social situation which has changed over the last 20 years. This study looks at the potential Bangalow has to specialise in many things and become a focus for the creativity and initiative of the many people who are part of this village. A village centre is a place where people eat, work, play and communicate and we have used the examples of the many individual and unique villages which have evolved over hundreds of years and the principles which make them so interesting, workable and viable today. The concept of a village centre providing an experience to the resident is central to the enjoyment and success of the town centre and we remember our journey through the spaces, places and activities that we enjoyed so much. Bangalow has many community, social, business, sporting and environmental groups who provide significant input to all village activities. Surveys and workshops have outlined the many likes and dislikes and these have been used to establish planning principles which then form the basis for the concept Master plan.
