The recent Bush Fires has accelerating the destruction of native habitat for the koala and other native species proceeding the tragic Rappville & Bora Ridge fires. Koala droppings were found on the perimeter of the proposed development site, a reasonable person knowing Koala’s move to find specific eucalypt trees to feed on would think they would move within the site boundary to source the specific trees they eat that are established within the proposed development site.

    Newsletter for Landcare and Dunecare in Byron Shire http://www.brunswickvalleylandcare.org.au/ September 2019 Completion of National Landcare Grant in Yalla Kool Reserve by Alison Ratcliffe The project which has allowed Brunswick Valley Landcare and the volunteers of Yalla Kool Landcare group to upgraded the walking track through Yalla Kool Reserve in Ocean Shores is now complete. The project has been a great success with 3 community days with 92 attendees, 0.5 ha of regeneration and planting of 420 plants as well as the significant improvement to the walking track. Yalla Kool Reserve was successful in receiving $49,816 through the Australian Governments National Landcare Program Environments Small Grants to improve the condition and function of this suburban reserve in Ocean Shores. Alison Ratcliffe, Landcare Support Officer said “The project has allowed the walking track to be upgraded and formalised. The walking track that winds through the reserve is now accessible in all weathers. It provides a great link between the Ocean Shores shopping centre and Devine’s Hill lookout through a beautiful natural environment”.     Byron Shire Visitor Profi le and Satisfaction Report: Summary and Discussion of Results Introduction The Byron Shire Visitor Profi le and Satisfaction (VPS) project was completed as part of the Destination Visitor Survey Program (DVS) run by Tourism Research Australia (TRA), within the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. This project was undertaken by TRA—in partnership with Byron Shire Council and Destination New South Wales—to gain a better understanding of visitors to the region, including their motivations and satisfaction with their visit to the Byron Shire. This includes providing more reliable and detailed information on the region to assist with destination management including planning, development and marketing. Method The Byron Shire VPS project was conducted in the Byron Shire during April, May and June 2011. Two waves of face-to-face interviews were conducted: the fi rst in mid April during the New South Wales and Queensland school holidays and the second in early June. The research was conducted over two periods to capture peak and off-peak visitation which has resulted in two distinct visitor profi les. These differences will be discussed in the summary. It should also be noted that this is a snapshot of a specifi c time of the year which needs to be taken into account when considering the results and in subsequent discussions and planning. Since 2006, 76 VPS projects have been completed in Australian regional tourist destinations. Data from these projects have been collated to establish the VPS Benchmark Database. It also uses the Foundation’s Collaborative Planning Resource (CPR) to present data on Need for Legal Assistance Service (NLAS) indicators and priority groups. ➢ About the CPR ➢ Definitions for the Foundation’s CPR NLAS indicators and CPR priority groups CLSD regions are based on Local Government Area (LGA) boundaries. LASDD data is presented by LGA in tables and graphs.
