Received: 12 Oct 2018 / Accepted: 14 Nov 2018 / Published online: 1 Jan 2019 Corresponding Author Email: [email protected] Abstract Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate various bioactive compounds present in the roots of Ruellia tuberosa collected from the biodiversity park located at Visakhapatnam. The study of ethanolic isolates based on characterization using gas chromatography- Mass spectroscopy. Materials and Methods: Preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, coumarins, tannins, cardiac glycosides, carbohydrates and amino acids. Further investigation was done using Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and GC-MS analysis. Results: UV-VIS and IR spectral analysis showed the peaks of corresponding functional groups present in the phytochemical constituents. GC-MS analysis of R. tuberosa tuber shows total sixteen compounds from its ethanolic extract. Out of these compounds, the highest abundance of them found to be Flavone (50%), E, E, Z-1, 3, 12-nonadecatriene 5, 14-diol (41.8%), Phytol (41.4) and Methyl-6-octadecenoate (40.2) present, based on the highest percentage of peak area. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that Ruellia tuberosa tuber has rich source of secondary metabolites. Smith The nation of The Bahamas is an archipelago vulnerable to plant invasion. Small island nations share characteristics such as isolation and high endemism, which make them the most susceptible to loss of biodiversity resulting from invasions of non-native plants. Biological invasion is particularly prominent on islands because of reduced numbers of, and in some cases, extinction of, native plants. Because The Bahamas is overrun by alien invasive plants, it is critically important to address this problem. The implementation of innovative and dynamic management practices is key to controlling invasive plants and establishing stable ecosystems. This report examines existing laws, best management practices, regulations and protocols of the Bahamas as a background for establishing a management model. A model is proposed that may be useful to The Bahamas, and issues related to effectuating this management model are discussed. Methodology: The survey was conducted in targeted locality from September 2015 – October 2019 and butterflies sightings were recorded using a digital camera (Nikon D7200 with kit lens 18-105 mm, Tamron 200- 300 apo dg macro lens). Results: Total 95 species of butterflies were recorded in the garden. Among all families, the highest count was observed in Nymphalidae family followed by Lycaenidae (29 species), Pieridae (15 species), Hesperiidae (10 species) and Papilionidae (11 species). The relative diversity of Nymphalidae (31.57 %) and Lycaenidae (30.52 %) were higher. For Pieridae, RD value accounted for 15.78 % and 11.57 % for Papilionidae. RD value was least for Hesperiidae family (10.52 %). Out of 95 butterflies, the host plants of 88 butterflies were present in the garden itself. Fifteen nectar plants belonging to eleven families were most preferred nectar sources.

Plants may be sources of alternative mosquito control agents. The present study was carried out to assess the role of larvicidal activities of the crude extracts of four plants viz. Alternanthera sessilis L. (Amaranthaceae), Trema orientalis L. (Cannabaceae), Gardenia carinata Smith. (Rubiaceae) and Ruellia tuberosa L. (Acanthaceae) against Culex quinquefasciatus Say in laboratory bioassay. Methods: Selective concentrations (0.5, 1 and 1.5%) of crude extract of all four plant leaves were tested against Ist to IVth instar larvae of Cx. quinquefasciatus. Log probit analysis (at 95% confidence level) revealed the LC50 values. Preliminary qualitative phytochemical analyses of crude extracts were also done. The lethal concentrations (%) of crude extracts at 24 h against IIIrd instar larvae were also studied on non-target organisms. Result: In a 72 h bioassay experiment with crude extract, the highest mortality was recorded in 1.5 per cent extract. A. sessilis showed the highest mortality (76.7 %) at 1.5 per cent crude extract against IInd instar larvae having LC50 value of 0.35 per cent, followed by R. tuberosa (LC50 =1.84%), G. carinata (LC50 = 2.11) and T. orientalis (LC50 = 2.95%). The regression equation showed a dose-dependent mortality, as the rate of mortality (Y) was positively correlated with the concentration (X).

Field expedition and specimen collection was done and deposited at the herbarium of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. 400 plant species from 271 genera 98 families were identified. Three species were pteridophytes, one species was gymnosperm, and 396 species were angiosperms. Flowering plants were categorized as Magnoliids 7 species in 7 genera 3 families, Monocots 106 species in 58 genera 22 families and Eudicots 283 species in 201 genera 69 families. Fabaceae has the greatest number of species among those flowering plant families. Keywords: Biodiversity, Conservation, Sa Kaeo, Species, Dipterocarp forest Introduction Deciduous dipterocarp forest or dried dipterocarp forest covered 80 percent of the forest area in northeastern Thailand spreads to central and eastern Thailand including Sa Kaeo province in which the elevation is lower than 1,000 meters above sea level, dry and shallow sandy soil. Plant species which are common in this kind of forest, are e.g. Buchanania lanzan, Dipterocarpus intricatus, D. tuberculatus, Shorea obtusa, S. siamensis, Terminalia alata, Gardenia saxatilis and Vietnamosasa pusilla [1]. More than 80 percent of the area of Burapha University, Sa Kaeo campus was still covered by the deciduous dipterocarp forest called ‘Khok Pa Pek’. This 2-square-kilometers forest locates at 13°44' N latitude and 102°17' E longitude in Watana Nakorn district, Sa Kaeo province.
