• Efficient Probabilistic Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbines Based On
Efficient probabilistic analysis of offshore wind turbines based on time-domain simulations Von der Fakultät für Bauingenieurwesen und Geodäsie der Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover zur Erlangung des Grades Doktor-Ingenieur - Dr.-Ing. - genehmigte Dissertation von Clemens Janek Hübler M. Sc. 2019 Hauptreferent: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Raimund Rolfes, Leibniz Universität Hannover Korreferent: Prof. John Dalsgaard Sørensen, M.Sc., Lic.techn., B.Com. Aalborg University Tag der mündlichen Prüfung: 11. Januar 2019 Abstract Offshore wind energy plays an important role in the successful implementation of the energy transition. However, without subsidies, it is not yet sufficiently competitive compared to other renewables or conventional fossil fuels. This is why offshore wind turbines have to be structurally optimised with regard to economic efficiency. One possibility to significantly increase economic efficiency is to improve the reliability or at least to assess present reliability levels precisely. For an accurate reliability assessment during the design phase, probabilistic analyses based on time-domain simulations have to be conducted. In this thesis, a methodol- ogy for a comprehensive probabilistic design of offshore wind turbines with special focus on their substructures is developed and applied. All investigations are based on time-domain simulations. This leads to more accurate results compared to semi-analytical approaches that are commonly used for probabilistic modelling at the expense of higher computing times. In contrast to previous probabilistic analyses, considering only particular aspects of the probabilistic design, this work defines a comprehensive analysis that can be split up into the following seven aspects: deterministic load model, resistance model (failure modes), uncer- tainty of inputs, design of experiments, sensitivity analysis, long-term extrapolation/lifetime distribution, and economic effects.

Received: 11 February 2014; in revised form: 28 May 2014 / Accepted: 9 June 2014 / Published: 23 June 2014 Abstract: Developments in the wind power industry have enabled a new generation of wind turbines with longer blades, taller towers, higher efficiency, and lower maintenance costs due to the maturity of related technologies. Nevertheless, wind turbines are still blind machines because the control center is responsible for managing and controlling individual wind turbines that are turned on or off according to demand for electricity. In this paper, we propose a communication network architecture for smart-wind power farms (Smart-WPFs). The proposed architecture is designed for wind turbines to communicate directly and share sensing data in order to maximize power generation, WPF availability, and turbine efficiency. We also designed a sensor data frame structure to carry sensing data from different wind turbine parts such as the rotor, transformer, nacelle, etc. The data frame includes a logical node ID (LNID), sensor node ID (SNID), sensor type (ST), and sensor data based on the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61400-25 standard.

Standards like ISO/IEC 15118 and IEC 61851-1 are developed to ensure base level interoperability of front-end com- munication and signaling processes for smart charging between electric vehicles and charge spots. With the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) a forum of European industry members also moves towards a common back-end protocol for charge spots intending to reduce and secure overall investment costs. However, in the current form OCPP lacks means for enabling grid services based on smart charging. In this paper the authors provide a review of today’s state of the art in ISO/IEC standardization of the V2G Interface and furthermore detail how OCPP could leverage existing standardization efforts for grid automation from IEC 61850 in order to overcome its shortcomings. With the introduction of EVs certain challenges According to the European Commission’s cli- arise for the power grid since it was deployed mate and energy targets set in 2007 as well as at times, when such additional loads were not following directives like 2009/28/EC [1] on the yet considered.

  • XEM Product Line Technical Differentiators
XEM Product Line Technical Differentiators Introduction The Xelas Energy Management (XEM) 61850 product line architecture is built for seamless smart grid management: • Seamless between 61850 clients and servers • Seamless between existing non 61850 equipment/applications and 61850 compliant equipment/applications • Seamless between the Operations functions (OT) and the information functions (IT), between control centre (OT) and back office (IT) This is a substantial step ahead from basic “stack vendors”. With XEM product line building blocks, a wide range of business solutions can be realized. • Using XEM 61850 Client development and/or Server development it is easy to add, test, and verify IEC 61850 management capabilities to your equipment or applications. • Using XEM dynamic integration framework, the network management communication with equipment and applications using different protocols and legacy is made easy, changeable and manageable. Below we list the key technical advantages, the principles and their importance. We have sorted them, divided in IT features, OT features and generic architectural features. Leading Information Technology (IT) features • Fully modular and distributed architecture (using TCP- IP). • The various XEM components (client adapters, server adapters, database, integration adapters, and translators) communicate using TCP-IP. This enables easy distributed component implementation and ensures the re-use of functions and logic among the XEM components. The overall system is therefore completely extensible and scalable, and configured for carrier grade availability (99,99x %). • Fully customizable scripting environment o All functions are described using scripts, which can be easily developed and adapted (also with a runtime license). The scripts range from elementary operations functions, to full test suite scripts, user-case scripts, “standard” administrative actions scripts and report scripts.
