The Bakony-Balaton Region is an area bordered by the towns of Tapolca and Sümeg to the west, the town of Várpalota to the east, the village Graceful Landscapes, of Somlószőlős and the town of Zirc to the north, the town of Balaton- kenese to the south-east and the settlements of the Valley of Arts to the south-west. It consists of four large units: Lake Balaton, the Balaton Eternal Memories Uplands, the Bakony Hills and the Somló Area. Although these areas are not entirely part of the Bakony-Balaton Tourism Region, they naturally belong together on the basis of their common characteristics. Welcome to the region with Hungary’s most diversified heritage! www.bakony-balaton.hu The town of Balatonkenese, a popular holiday resort situated on the eastern shore of Lake Balaton, directly belongs to the Bakony-Balaton At the Eastern Gate of Tourism Region. Due to its special location, there is a nice view of the entire eastern basin of Lake Balaton and also the Tihany Peninsula from the Kenese cliffs and directly from the shore. If the weather is good, this Lake Balaton is a spectacular sight in every season. The Kenese cliffs are home for rare, protected natural resources. www.bakony-balaton.hu Lake Balaton is one of Hungary’s most precious natural assets and its main attractive force on an international scale. Delimiting the “Balaton Riviera” tourist destination by using network analysis Eszter MADARÁSZ1 and Zsófia PAPP2 Abstract Recently the recognition of the role, potential within, and analysis of networks has been increasing in business and academic areasl. Network analysis has also been applied widely in tourism, as numerous researchers are studying connections among elements of tour- ism, with the main focus on destinations, cooperation and the effi ciency of cooperation among players of destination management organisations. The methodology applied in those researches has reinvented social network analyis, which has noteable historical roots in mathematics, sociology, and anthropology. As identifi ed in the title, the subject of this study aims to delimit destinations which have been researched in a micro-region (Felsőörs, Lovas, Paloznak, Alsóörs, Csopak) of a Balaton Region, Hungary’s number one tourist destination as well as the local destination management organisation “Balaton Riviera”. Analyzing the data we can conclude that our hypothesis posed at the beginning of the research is verifi ed, namely in the case of this micro region the connections among the ac- tors mark the boundaries of the destination. For the time being, the scope of this research is limited to pilot research only, but thanks to sophisticated methodology and soft wares it can be upscaled to manage huge databases as well, and therefore the results achieved herein can be tested elsewhere and generalized. Die Flotte muß eine klare Organisationsstruktur haben, die Re- putation des Drachensegelns kräftig angehoben und die Lust zum Regattasegeln in einem Drachen meßbar gestei- gert werden. Nun, kurz vor Weihnachten 2009 – wobei der Vorstand im vergangenen Jahr wiedergewählt wurde – ste- hen wir vielleicht vor den wichtigsten sechs Monaten unse- rer Geschichte. Dieses Halbjahr wird über Erfolg oder Mißerfolg entscheiden – je nach dem, wie unser großes Vorhaben, die Europameis- terschaft am Balaton gelingen wird. Endlich siegte die Vernunft über die Tradition, und man hat die Langfahrtregatten, früher ein- mal die A und Z im Drachensegeln am Balaton, beiseite gelas- sen.
