2018 KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show Results Catalogue 30 July - 2 August 2018 Sydney Showground Sydney Olympic Park CATALOGUE www.rasnsw.com.au Thank you from the President Thank you for entering in this Sydney Royal Competition and congratulations to those who were successful in winning a prestigious Sydney Royal award. Our Sydney Royal competitions showcase excellence in rural produce and the passion of so many talented producers across NSW and interstate each year. The standard of entries from right across the country continues to be remarkably high which is immensely pleasing for everyone involved in the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS). Rewarding excellence and encouraging innovation in food and wine production is at the heart of our charter, and in turn supports a viable and prosperous future for our agricultural communities. To be the recipient of a Sydney Royal award is a significant achievement representing months, years and sometimes decades of hard work and dedication and is highly regarded by fellow producers. To help winning Exhibitors promote their success, the RAS provides Champion, Trophy, Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners with Sydney Royal artwork to use on product packaging and other marketing materials to promote their success. The RAS has a solid reputation for impartial judging standards, quality and distinction. We review our Competitions every year to ensure they remain relevant to industry standards and are up-to-date with changing trends. In the same manner, we value the strong links we have with agricultural industries and welcome feedback from producers and exhibitors. There are many people involved in making our Competitions the world-class events they are and we take this opportunity to thank our stewards and judges for their time, expertise and energy. Their wisdom and integrity ensure Sydney Royal awards are presented only to the best of the best. We also extend our gratitude to our generous Competition partners along with our Committees and supporters. On behalf of the RAS, thank you for your support. Your participation plays an important role in assisting the RAS to educate and increase awareness about the importance of our agricultural industries, and we encourage you to join in the tradition of entering every year. We hope to see the winners of this year’s Competitions go on towards even greater things as a result of their Sydney Royal success. • In the Time It Has Taken James Halliday to Compile His 26 Australian Wine
In the time it has taken James Halliday to compile his 26 Australian Wine Companions, the Chardonnay grape has emigrated to almost every hill and vale across our viticultural landscape. No other variety has adapted more successfully, from single barrel selections to vast commercial blends. No other inspires such singular focus in our winemakers to sharpen their craft. No other sends vignerons searching, with gold fever, for that next hill, or clone, or aspect. Chardonnay alone explores the breadth and personality of all Australian wine regions. In our tribute to James Halliday, the true patron of fine Australian wine, no other variety would do for this national wine competition. Organised by Wine Yarra Valley, the objective of the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge is to affirm the quality of Australian Chardonnay and provide a catalyst for people to take a fresh look at this much-loved wine by providing an appropriate platform for the national search to recognize Australia’s finest chardonnay. A Welcome from the Committee Australian chardonnay has never been better. It is a great news story and one about which we should all be proud and excited. The level of support for the inaugural James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge has been overwhelming and we thank all of the exhibitors for getting behind it so enthusiastically. We thank James for his guidance and support in the design and execution of the competition and agreeing to be our patron. We were very lucky to be able to secure one of the most dynamic and talented groups of judges in Australia, literally from coast-to-coast, and thank them for volunteering their time, expertise and camaraderie.

Home / Our producers / Stella Bella Wines / Cabernet, Merlot ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WINE Product code: 2433 STELLA BELLA, CABERNET MERLOT, MARGARET RIVER, Download data sheet Print data sheet Download Bottle shot AUSTRALIA, 2018 Related Wines > Stella Bella, Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River, Australia Product code: 8354 2017 Margaret River, Australia Producer Profile This boutique winery in the heart of Margaret River creates idiosyncratic named ranges like Suckfizzle and Skuttlebutt in a low interventionist and organic way keeping their approach as simple as possible to allow their cherished vineyards to show their quality. It is not merely in the names where these wines are memorable, as once you have tasted them you will see why Luke Jolliffe, the winemaker, continues to receive recognition and awards from around the world for wines that have that wonderful Margaret River restraint and elegance, but are bound together with a fruit purity that makes them delectable. Viticulture Their philosophy regarding viticulture is simple, and that is to operate in a manner that consciously respects the vineyards that they tend as well as the local environment. Minimal chemical inputs and fertilisers are used along with minimal intervention as - aiming for vine balance. Stella Bella are acutely aware of the environmentally pristine nature of this part of the world and manage their vineyards accordingly. An example of this is their recent introduction of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (the Australian Native Ladybird) to predate on mealy Stella Bella, bugs. This has been a very successful natural control measure. Unlike almost all Chardonnay, other wine producing regions, because Western Australia is free from Phylloxera, Margaret River, Stella Bella wines are all on their own roots, and not on rootstock, which arguably Australia gives them a purer expression of the various cultivars grown and the respective Product code: 8344 sites they are planted in.

This article traces the networks of correspondence between the officials and the Colonial Office in London as they debated the merits of various offshore islands to incarcerate different populations. It identifies three roles that carceral islands served for colonial governance and economic expansion. First, the use of con- victs as colonizers of strategic islands for territorial and commercial expansion. Second, to punish transported convicts found guilty of “misconduct” to maintain order in colonial society. Third, to expel Indigenous Australians who resisted colonization from their homeland. It explores how, as “colonial peripheries”, islands were part of a colo- nial system of punishment based around mobility and distance, which mirrored in microcosm convict flows between the metropole and the Australian colonies. ISLAND INCARCERATION Today, the island continent of Australia has more than 8,000 smaller islands off its coast.1 As temperatures rose 6,000 years ago, parts of the
