JOLYON LOY

British/Irish baritone Jolyon Loy is currently a Glyndebourne New Generation Young Artist at the National Studio. Winner of 2nd Prize & the Bayreuth Festival Award at the Wagner Society Singing Competition, Jolyon will participate in the final rounds of the 39th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition & the 4th Éva Marton International Singing Competition this summer as well as make his debut as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at Opera Holland Park.

His recent operatic highlights include his performance of Apollo in John Eccles’ Semele with the Academy of Ancient Music, which was recorded and released on AAM Records. He has also appeared at the Verbier Festival as Stimme der Wächter in Die Frau ohne Schatten conducted by Valery Gergiev, and 1st Priest, 2nd Armed Man in Die Zauberflöte conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky.

Opera roles to date include Valens in Theodora as a Britten Pears Young Artist conducted by Christian Curnyn, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Aeneas in Dido & Aeneas at the first edition of The Vache Baroque Festival, Sonora in La Fanciulla del West at Wexford Festival Opera, and both Lesbo in Agrippina and Ghost of in Handel’s Saul at the Dartington Festival conducted by Laurence Cummings.

A versatile singer, Jolyon is equally comfortable on the concert platform. He has sung Handel’s Messiah with the CBSO at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, Bach’s BWV 78 at Snape Proms conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, and Handel’s Dixit Dominus at Wexford Festival Opera.

Jolyon is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the & Oxford University. He has performed in recital and participated in masterclasses at the Verbier, London Song, Dartington, Oxford Lieder & Aldeburgh Festivals and for British Youth Opera with Sir , , Thomas Quasthoff, Bryan Hymel, Barbara Frittoli, Dame Sarah Connolly, Karen Cargill, Mark Padmore, , Sarah Walker & Hilary Summers.
