Federal President That exchange has intensified remarkably in recent years, of the Republic of Austria and both countries are getting to know each other even better through their rich and diverse cultural output. More than ever before Austrian artists are being invited to concerts, exhibitions and festivals. In return, Austria’s cultural scene is benefiting from Russian creatives in all the arts. Against this backdrop I am delighted that over the period 2013/2014 a wide-ranging spectrum of Austria’s cultural activities is to be showcased in Russia as part of the Austrian season of culture. Greetings & Many of Austria’s major cultural institutions such as the Albertina and ’s Burgtheater will feature with guest performances in Russia, some after a long spell Forword away, and others for the first time ever. In the contem- porary arts the broad spectrum of creative output will be on show in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other cities in the Russian regions with a rich culture. The purpose of the season of culture is not just to pre- sent Austrian cultural life; rather, its aim is to provide an incentive for a direct encounter and engagement with art. May I therefore wish all the participating institutions and artists a great reception and every success!
