But as “conventional” pharmaceutical companies are increasingly also using such methods, it is often difficult to differentiate between biotech and pharma. Traditional phytopharmaceutical companies and manufacturers of homeopa- thic products are however not included in this compilation. We distinguished the parameters specific to each sector and conducted separate surveys for biotech companies, pharmaceutical companies, (pre)clini- cal contract research organizations (CROs), contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), suppliers and others with activities in the biotechnology sector. In the case of the biotech companies, a distinction was once again made between small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) having their headquarters in Bavaria, and branch offices and subsidiaries of national and international biotech companies (biotechnolo- gy companies, non-SMEs). The term “non-SME” therefore does not say anything about the actual size of this branch office. The data forming the basis of this report are based on the evaluation of a written survey carried out by BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH at the beginning of 2013 of approx. 340 Life Science companies throughout Bavaria. Based on the questionnaires returned and intensive follow-up telephone calls it was possible to achieve a response rate of almost 90 %. Possible deviations from previously published figures are the result of additional data obtained in this survey that also may refer to previous years. The period under review for this report is the year 2012. Company profiles: There are about 300 companies listed in the appendix of this brochure (page 39 ff). Not every company being listed is also “counted” in this survey (for example those from the Medtech area), and there are other Bavarian biotech and pharma companies having not activated their listing.     SUSANNE KIRCHMAYR – INFO Electric Indigo, DJ, Komponistin, Musikerin, spielte in 39 Ländern Europas, Asiens, Nord- und Südamerikas, ihr Name steht für die intelligente, eigenständige Interpretation von Techno und elektronischer Musik. Ihre herausragenden DJ-Sets sind von klarer Vision, großer Vielfalt und Tiefe gekennzeichnet, die aus einem profunden Verständnis der Musik und der DJ-Kunst resultieren. Als Komponistin und Musikerin beschäftigt sie sich neben dem kontinuierlichen Verfeinern von klanglicher und struktureller Beschaffenheit ihrer Musik und der Aneignung neuer Technologien seit 2011 intensiv mit der Spatialisierung von Klängen. Dabei interessiert sie sich sehr für die Raumgewinnung etwa durch mikrotonale Verschiebungen gleichartiger Klänge aus unterschiedlich orientierten Lautsprechern oder die gezielte Positionierung einzelner Elemente in der Musik, Neben einigen anderen Preisen bekam sie den "outstanding artist award Musik 2012", der in der Sparte elektronische Musik und Computermusik vom Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur vergeben wurde, und 2013 das Österreichische Staatstipendium für Komposition. Am 16. März 2018 erschien ihr Debutalbum „5 1 1 5 9 3“ auf imbalance computer music. Kirchmayr startete ihre DJ-Karriere 1989 in Wien und lebte von 1993 bis 1996 in Berlin, wo sie im legendären Hard Wax Plattenladen arbeitete. Zu dieser Zeit begann sie auch, selber Musik zu produzieren, erste Veröffentlichungen erschienen 1993. 1998 gründete sie female:pressure, ein internationales Netzwerk für Musikerinnen, DJs und bildenden Künstlerinnen im Bereich elektronischer Musik, das 2009 mit einer Anerkennung beim Prix Ars Electronica bedacht wurde. 2002 entdeckte sie ihre Leidenschaft für experimentelle Musik und begann live zu spielen. Mittlerweile gibt sie sowohl im Avantgarde- als auch im Clubkontext Konzerte. Institutionen wie die Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien, die Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien, die Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien laden sie immer wieder für Gastvorträge ein.

    The Berlin Techno Myth and Issues of Diversity About the connections between techno, the muting of diverse perspectives, inequalities and the persisting need for platforms like female:pressure Bianca Ludewig1 Abstract In this article I would like to give an overview of the issue of diversity within the field of electronic (dance) music and Berlin club cultures. This perspective is taken from the viewpoint of a member of the female:pressure network and a scholar of popular music studies and cultural studies. This article starts out to grasp the issue of diversity within the context of my PhD research on German and Austrian avant-garde festivals or transmedia festivals2. By unraveling the quest for more diversity in club cultures, I will start with a discussion on gender inequality and how these are linked to technology, introduce the platform female:pressure and discuss the muting of diverse perspectives in the history of club cultures. I also point out some of the myths that have been repeatedly contested about Berlin techno, as repeating them does not make them facts, it made these tales just more suspicious; or at least incomplete (at the cost of other groups and subcultures). Subsequently I connect this discussion with the booming business of techno in Berlin and close with pointing out the recent rise of collectives and the challenge of collective problem solving, and end with a bird’s eye view of the issues at stake. The title of the book “the new age of club culture” is very much inviting such an investigation. This is done via a mix of personal accounts and discussing the work of other scholars, media coverage and video documentation.

    SUSANNE KIRCHMAYR – INFO Electric Indigo, DJ, composer and musician from Vienna, has performed in 39 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Her name stands for the intelligent and distinguished interpretation of techno and electronic music. Her DJ-sets are characterized by a wide variety with a clarity of vision, and a depth that only comes from a profound understanding of music and the art of the DJ. As a composer and musician, she creates works for concert spaces and clubs, as well as occasionally for stage plays, films or sound installations. In her compositions and live performances, she emphasizes the spatial-temporal placement of subtly textured sounds and structures, often generated from speech recordings. In March 2018 she released her debut solo album “5 1 1 5 9 3 ” on imbalance computer music. Electric Indigo started her DJ career in Vienna in 1989 and lived in Berlin for three years [1993-1996] to work at the legendary Hard Wax record store. In those years, she also began to make music herself, first releases came out in 1993. 10 years later, she started her own record label indigo:inc recordings which is sound asleep nowadays… In 1998, Electric Indigo founded female:pressure, an international database and network for female, non-binary and trans artists in the field of electronic music that was awarded with an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2009. She lectures at institutions like the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the University of Fine Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, at the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music and for Ableton.
