The actual voting process was simulated as nails were inked, papers dropped into ballot boxes, and voices fell as teenage astrologers predicted the results. The wait was worth it as the winners were announced the following week. House House Captain Asst. But the most vital quality required for a child, namely his or her cognition, is brought out by parents. While raising their child via inculcation of values at home is essential, it is a proud moment for every child to see his or her parent in the midst of friends. Thus, to nurture the little saplings into beautiful plants, the water of support cannot be deprived of. With this view in mind, various Parent Interaction sessions were held at all class levels to provide children an opportunity to get engaged in active learning by engaging them in various DIY(Do it Yourself) activities. These sessions aim at children’s holistic development. It also gives the parents an opportunity to take an active part in their child’s learning process and share their experiences in a fun and exciting way. Madras is perhaps is the only city to celebrate a day of its own and it truly deserves it. Madras has always been known for its architectural wealth and breathtaking beaches. It is also celebrated for being a culinary haven, IT hub, one of the safest cities for women and the only city to hold Marghazi (a month specially dedicated for music and dance). The founding day of Madras is considered to be August 22, 1639.It was on that day, in that year, that a sliver of land, where Fort. St. George stands today, was transacted by the East India Company. Sishya OMR too celebrated Madras Week with great fervour and enthusiasm. Students of class VIII got an opportunity to visit North Chennai as a part of ‘Heritage Walk’ organized by the Mylapore Times. The students witnessed century old buildings like St. Fort George, Chennai High Court, the harbour, Parrys, and Royapuram Railway station. A video lecture by V.Sriram, a famous historian and a heritage activist, was shown to the students in which he spoke about the magnanimity of the city of Madras. The lecture was followed by a small quiz conducted by Principal Mrs. Meenakshi Nagaraj. Students participated enthusiastically and their contribution was commendable. A gallery celebrating the architecture and culture of Madras has also been initiated in the school. Generation global VIDEO CONFERENCING Generation Global previously known as Tony Blair Faith Foundation aims at preparing and giving students the skills and experience they need to navigate difference in a peaceful way. It gives them experience to flourish in the International World. The most powerful part of Generation Global is watching students speak to students of their own age from a different country and culture. The students learn and practice the skills of dialogue in the classroom before engaging in a dialogue through Video Conferences. The forum connects classrooms across the world, allowing students to explore, articulate and develop their own views while encountering and considering the views of the others. Generation Global facilitates human connections with lasting emotional resonance by exposing people to others with different cultures and beliefs so they can learn from each other and live with each other. Sishya OMR facilitates this teaching with the help of Generation Global working towards peaceful co-existence. The students had an opportunity to interact with students in Lucknow and Bangalore on topics of global concern like Global Warming and Human Trafficking. CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019 The World Cup of 2019 unravelled to be a competition to remember. A championship where ten teams would walk in but only one would walk out victorious. The year of 2019 also saw some particularly interesting matches, aggressive struggles and events that kept cricket fans all around the world at the edge of their seats. This particular year also held game changing injuries, breath-taking catches, unforeseen game plans and daring shots that would rival the games in the years to come. This year also witnessed the first ever victory of England in the International cricket cup and with such a historic final match, too. A match that ended with a tie and then the teams even managed to tie the tie breaker or the super over which led to an unsatisfactory method of settling of the match by count of the boundaries which also barely gave the cup to England. Team India's journey in the CWC 2019 The journey was particularly a strong one which yielded victories in all matches that they played but two. They put such a good fight that, even after they lost, they held their position at the top of the CWC points table to the very end of the CWC. Team India was also pulled down in between by the sudden injury of the in-form batsman, Shikhar Dhawan. Despite the difficulties and overwhelming odds that they faced at every turn, team India’s performance in CWC 2019 reflected nothing but courage and unwavering will. Winners of Sishya Amrita 2019 Learning can be fun- A trip to Mahabalipuram and Excursion to Coorg and Bandipur .

  • Ennore Port, 16 Km North of Chennai Port, Another Erosion Problem Was Emerged and Similar Issues Like Chennai Port Are on the Way
i EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The coastline of Chennai with a hinterland of 20km offer a variety of environmental issues and problems, which need integrated management. These include the coastal erosion and accretion, pollution from human settlement and industries, loss of aesthetics in tourism beaches and declining fishery resources. The ICMAM Project Directorate undertook the task of analysing above problems and prepared integrated management solutions, which will help to solve these problems and also avoidance of occurrence of such problems in future. It is well known that the shoreline along Chennai coast is subjected to oscillations due to natural and man made activities. After construction of Chennai port, coast north of port is eroded and 350 hectares land is lost into sea. The river Cooum that carries domestic sewage is closed due to accretion of sand south port. State Government resorted to short term measures for protecting coastal stretch of length 6 km at Royapuram with sea wall and the erosion problem shifted to further north. Now with the construction of Ennore port, 16 km North of Chennai port, another erosion problem was emerged and similar issues like Chennai port are on the way. If, no intervention is planned, threat to ecologically sensitive Pulicat Lake is inevitable. North Ennore Coast is already experiencing increased wave action and the naturally formed protection barriers, the “Ennore Shoals”, may likely to be disturbed by construction of Port. Baseline data reveal that the Ennore creek on south of Ennore port is experiencing increased siltation. Since the available information on Ennore coast is not sufficient for working out suitable measures, a research project entitled “Shoreline management along Ennore” has been formulated to conduct detailed field and model investigations on various dynamical aspects (water level variations, currents & circulation, tides, waves, bathymetric variations, sediment transport, shoreline changes etc) of Ennore coast covering Ennore creek to Pulicat mouth.

In its journey of transformation from Madras to Chennai, the bustling metropolitan city has also witnessed several changes in its architectural styles and landscapes. Chennai is a myriad mix of heritage structures and modern buildings and has imbibed various architectural styles as it evolved over the decades. Every period in its history reveals a specific style of architecture. Though the city is home to several styles such as Portugese and French, the indo-saracenic style of architecture predominant particularly in the public buildings, has defined the essence of the city.
