It’s one of those competitions that all riders dream of winning. Initial success in this prestigious series went to the French riders, who got off to a spectacular start in Scandinavia with an historic triple win in Oslo. The final leg promises to be just as exciting with the International Jumping de Bordeaux selected once again to host the Driving World Cup Final as well as providing the venue for the European final of the Show Jumping World Cup. Bordeaux: the sporting challenge This year the Show Jumping World Cup consists of 11 legs, two of which have recently taken place (see recap. of World Cup legs below*). Bordeaux is the last leg before the final in Gothenburg (23rd to 28th March), effectively making it the European final. It will decide on the winner of the difficult Western European league as well as the 18 European riders who will accompany the titleholder and Olympic champion, Steve Guerdat, to Sweden. The stakes will be high in Bordeaux for two reasons: It’s the first international show jumping competition on the French calendar and it is an Olympic year. The French riders will be going all out to prove their form to Philippe Guerdat, the French national trainer, and the father of the last World Cup winner. Temperatures are likely to reach fever pitch in Aquitaine! 2 PRESS KIT And it promises to be no less intense for the two other leading events in Bordeaux: the Driving World Cup Final and the Devoucoux Derby. - The first event, with the customary duel between the great Australian champion, Boyd Exell, and the rest of the driving world, is set to enthral the public. Exceptionally gifted in this discipline, Boyd was World Champion in Caen last year and World Cup winner last February for the 4th time in a row. Wherever and whenever he competes, he is always the one to beat. -The Devoucoux Derby, an indoor cross-country competition, will give the French public the chance to celebrate their riders’ recent success in Scotland, which saw them qualify for the Rio Olympics, and bring back two European Championship medals. Cross country is rarely an indoor event, but one which audiences in Bordeaux have adopted with enthusiasm for the past two years. Jumping L’Expo: the South-West Horse Exhibition As well as the ticketed arena events, the Jumping International de Bordeaux is an event open to everyone with free entry to Jumping L’Expo, an exhibition that is growing year on year and is now well on its way to becoming a major horse exhibition with around a hundred exhibitors. People without tickets for the actual competition will be able to visit the paddock, watch the champions training for the show jumping and driving classes right in the middle of the exhibition area and see part of the Devoucoux Derby.
