SOMALIA NUTRITION CLUSTER GEDO Sub‐national Nutrition Cluster Meeting Minutes Wednesday, 18th October 2017, 10:00 am CEDA Hall, Dollow District, Somalia 1. Welcome and Introductions: The meeting officially opened at 10.15 A.M on 18th October 2017 by Chairman Ahmed Mohamed at CEDA Meeting hall in Dolow Somalia, the meetings was opened with a word of prayer from Mr. Hussein from Trocaire, followed by round self‐introduction, after the introduction the chairman took the participant through the agendas of the meeting 2. Review and endorsement of the last cluster meeting minutes and follow up on the action points: Partners’ reviewed the previous meeting minutes on ‐20th September 2017 and the all the participants agreed and endorsed the docs of the previous minute as a true record. The newly elected chairman appreciated and welcomed the nutrition cluster members who attended the meeting on their punctuality and requested the members to maintain the nutrition coordination meetings and always send a representative who can be able to share exactly what the organization is doing at the field, has a good concept on the general situation of the region and who is doing what and where so that we all have on the same page. The previous action point was closed because there was no any pending action. 3. Key Nutrition Services and Situation Highlights; The clusters members reported that the general situation in the region is stable, security of the accessible areas remain quite stable, no incidents has been reported so far which hindered the day to day running for the nutrition programs and other related activities. They also run TSFP and BSFP programs. Ceda under their own budget and initiative of the community have developed a mechanism to support the migrants IDP who are dropout from neighbouring regions i.e Bay, Bakool and Gedo. CEDA opened mother baby area, a conducive area appropriate when conducting IYCF/NHHP session as the caregivers wait to be served this was initial by CEDA. CEDA with the support of WFP started scope registration for the PLWs so far registered 889 PLWs in Kabasa and Qansaxley IDPs, out of the 889 PLWs 872 received their ratio cards, these beneficiaries are entitled to receive 14.1 USD for a period of 9 months as vegetable while they also receive 7.5kg of CBW and 0.75 kg of oil as in‐kind. CEDA has integrated its nutrition services on nine Basic Nutrition service package in all the sites and triggered all outreach sites on how to do open defecation free IYCF counselling was one of the sessions that contribute high on behavioural change to all mothers attending the sessions CEDA implements TSFP / BSFP in 10 Food Distribution Points (FDPs) in Dolow Districts and now ongoing a monthly routine screening in all sites CEDA with WVI gives additional support to all normal pregnant mothers who get delivered in the MCHN Program and gives 50 kg of Sorghum, 10 Pulses 10kg of CSB, 5.2 litres of Oil and 14 dollars cash for vegetables so as to encourage mothers to deliver in the MCH. Under MCHN we also support pregnant mothers who are in the second trimester and we provide different ration than the delivers mothers in the MCH which is 7.5kg of CSB, O.75 litres of Oil. SRDA; Currently Implementing OTP program supported by UNICEF in 7 Sites (2 fixed and 5 mobile sites), the agency also implements TSFP/BSFP programs supported by WFP/WVI 12 sites at Luuq district, the services offered at the facilities including ,EPI, Mother support group, NHHP, health and hygiene promotion sessions, IYCF‐Emergency. Under the OTP program the agency is also supporting the main hospital of Bohol Garas Village, where we offer our OTP and EPI services, pregnant mothers is being given systematic treatments, including MMNs, EPI and counselling, regarding IYCF and NHHP. The TSFP‐as program is funded by WFP/WVI in 12 FDPs in luuq district targeting U5 MAM children to receive Plum sup (28 Pieces) 7 sachets for the out‐going/Cured children, For the preventive measures SRDA admitted 7990 U3 children across 12 FDPs where every U3 child receives 30 sachets of BSFP on monthly basis. SRDA also admits and supports the Pregnant and Lactating women who are malnourished by giving Oil (0.75 kg) and CSB (7.5 Kg), Along site the Nutrition Program SRDA trained Community Based Workers based at the outreach villages who are doing active case findings, Social mobilization and hygiene sessions and behavioural changes to the communities. The agency is supporting the main hospital of Bohol Garas, where we offer our OTP and EPI services, where pregnant mothers who are in the second trimester and lactating mothers is being given systematic treatments , including MMNs, EPI and counselling, regarding IYCF and NHHP. Trocaire; Trocaire is implementing health and nutrition services in Gedo region. Due to the current emergency Trocaire have scaled up nutrition services ongoing in the three districts of Belethawa, Dollow and Luuq where six outreach teams have been organized to work in hard to reach remote areas identify and treat malnourished children and mothers. In terms of program performance, some slight decrease in the admission trends have been noticed in the months of August and September, this could be due to timely and active case findings and treatment done by the implementing partners supported by the donors and low IDP influx from neighbouring regions of Somalia (Bay and Bagol). Trocaire is expanding the stabilization ward in Dollow through partnership with MSF. The new building will have 30 bed capacity. It was proposed that MSF with partnership with local health and nutrition partners in Dolow and will engage the community health worker who will be doing screening, case finding and referral of sick children from Kabasa and Qansahley IDPs in Dollow. In response to the emergency drought situation Trocaire introduced monthly Food Basket for vulnerable households with food entitlements of 25 kg of rice, 25 kg of wheat, and 7kg of beans 3L cooking oil 3 Kg sugar. So far targeted 200 HH in Qansaxley IDP. The beneficiary selection was done in collaboration with district drought and disaster committee and Trocaire field officers and registration and food distribution for October is ongoing. Challenges. Beneficiaries selling the CSB+ that was given as family protection ration to minimize sharing of other therapeutic food items for children with SAM. The routine health and nutrition services of OTP/TSFP/SCs are ongoing in all MCHs and outreach sites. The nutrition supplies are adequately available and preplaced in all our stores in Dolow, Gedweyne, Luuq and Belethawa. AMA/DA; is currently running TSFP, BSFP and MCHN in partnership with WVI Somalia, the program is funded by WFP through WVI international Somalia program. They refer slips and tally sheets. TSFP New Admission During the month of October 2017 a total of 383 Cu5 fresh screening of U5children and 77 PLW new beneficiaries were admitted to the AMA’s TSFP in the 15 FDPs. The admissions were achieved through active case finding and referrals by community nutrition workers at the 15 FDPs in Beled‐Hawa district.36% of the beneficiaries in the program are new admission, where the new admission of last month 26%, due to drought and some other factors related to diseases and poor dietary at the HH level.
