Sono campioni del mondo il quattro di coppia (Franco Sancassani, Daniele Gilardoni, Lorenzo Bertini, Stefano Basalini e l’otto (Luigi Scala, Davide Riccardi, Livio La Padula, Martino Goretti, Emiliano Ceccatelli, Gennaro Gallo, Jiri Vlcek, Bruno Mascarenhas, tim. Andrea Lenzi) pesi leggeri, secondo posto per il due senza leggero (Andrea Caianiello, Armando Dell’Aquila) e la singolista leggera Laura Milani, terzi Elia Luini e Marcello Miani nel doppio pesi leggeri. Nelle specialità olimpiche spicca il bronzo del doppio leggero di Elia Luini e Marcello Miani: gli azzurri brillano per costanza di rendimento e, dopo aver passato il Canada, difendono con i denti la loro posizione mentre la Nuova Zelanda di Uru e Taylor si laurea campione del mondo con 1’’95 sui francesi Azou e Dufour e 4’’46 sull’Italia. Molto positiva la finale del quattro di coppia femminile (Erika Bello, Gabriella Bascelli, Laura Schiavone, Elisabetta Sancassani): il podio è lontano 2’’73, il quarto posto è una bella iniezione di fiducia per le ragazze protagoniste di una gara d’alto livello dove l’Ucraina vince davanti a Stati Uniti e Germania.
