The DVD “Conquer Credits The World” is a reissue of their original VHS release from 2002 that documented the bands first ever world tour and should be something that their most ardent of fans will eat up. The band was formed by bassist/singer Steve Rowe back in 1990 and over the years would release some twenty albums and become innovators in the Christian Metal genre based on the different manner in which they delivered their music and the message behind it. Clearly the band didn’t approach this in the same fashion as Stryper for where they would have high-pitched screams all over the place. Mortification instead chose a far darker and much more primal sound to their Metal style and as result was able to be considered the most Extreme Christian Metal band in music history.

En jämförande studie av kristen och sekulär metal Daniel Berg Handledare: Harri Ihanus Luleå Tekniska Universitet C-uppsats Musik Institutionen för Konst, kommunikation och Lärande (KKL) 1 ABSTRAKT Kristen metal? Kan man verkligen kalla något kristen metal? Heavy metal är ju en rebellisk reaktion mot en samhällsstruktur av människor som inte känner sig hemma där. Och kristendomen är ju en religiös rörelse som står för ordning, reda, renhet och kärlek. Eller? Syftet med denna studie är har varit att studera likheter och skillnader i låtstruktur, dynamik och klangfärg mellan kristna och sekulära metalband och se om de används på samma sätt i förhållande till texten. Jag har gjort en komparativ analys av låtar av kristna och sekulära metalband och tittat på möjliga likheter och skillnader. Detta innefattar även en konstnärlig del där jag, i relation till det analyserade materialet, skrivit två låtar själv och dokumenterat dessa i klingande form. Som material till denna studie har jag använt mig av vetenskapliga artiklar, låtmaterial samt intervjuat pastor Bob Beeman från Nashville, som är en av pionjärerna bakom kristen metal. Über Tonträger oder auf Konzerten kam ich mit vielen Spielarten des Rock in Berührung. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, wie unterschiedlich sich Performance, Text und Kontext auf meine Wahrnehmung auswirkten. Es schien mir, als ob dabei die innere Einstellung des Protagonisten einen großen Einfluss auf die Rezeption von Musik hat – was sich im Rock noch augenscheinlicher niederschlug als in anderen Ausdrucksformen populärer Musik. Einerseits vom persönlichen Ausdruck des Interpreten bzw. der Aussage und Ausstrahlung seiner Musik angetan, riefen andere Darbietungen in diesen Punkten Enttäuschung in mir hervor. Mit dem Studium der Musikwissenschaft, besonders des Seminars Musikwissenschaft und Popularmusik, entstand ein persönliches Interesse, herauszufinden, ob und inwieweit bestimmte Strömungen des Rock sich hinsichtlich musikalischer, ideologischer und soziologischer Kriterien unterscheiden und welchen Wert bzw. Unwert sie für die Gesellschaft besitzen. Auch die Kritik an der vielleicht authentischsten Ausdrucksform der (jugendlichen) Gesellschaft veranlasste mich, jene Aspekte, hier auf Christian Rock bezogen, auf wissenschaftlicher Ebene zu beleuchten. Mein Dank gilt in erster Linie meiner Professorin Linda Maria Koldau, die mir in inhaltlichen sowie formalen Fragen für die Zeit meines Schreibens zur Verfügung stand.

CAPÍTULO 2 EL METAL EN LAS PUERTAS DE LA IGLESIA 2.1 El Nacimiento de la Primera Iglesia Subterránea Al terminar la Segunda Guerra Mundial en la mitad del siglo XX, el mundo occidental cayó en un vacío existencial y la sociedad que se encontraba aprisionada psicológicamente, se destapó en una revolución sin par en la historia, una metanoia tendiente a propagar “la paz mundial”, después de tantos años de guerra. Las iglesias, bares y lugares públicos servían como desahogo para las tensiones y desasosiegos. La música sirvió como medio para destapar la furia y deseo de libertad que llevaban los jóvenes, bandas como los Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull y otras más, sirvieron como modelo a seguir. Su estilo desenfrenado, peinados desaliñados, ropa extravagante y actitud libertina, despertaron los ojos de una sociedad dormida en el letargo de la revolución industrial. El movimiento hippie se convirtió en uno de los grupos sociológicos con más influencia en el siglo XX, su lema “haz el amor y no la guerra”, se convirtió en el eslogan principal de una generación ávida de conocimientos y deseos de volar. La comunidad de hippies “Jesus People USA”, marcó uno de los grandes avivamientos del siglo XX, ayudando a muchos jóvenes a encontrar respuesta a sus preguntas en Jesucristo, anhelando una vida mejor en el paraíso. 22 Mientras tanto, en el Reino Unido, nacía un estilo aún más desenfadado y con mayor actividad política anarquista. El punk revolucionó de pies a cabeza a la sociedad mundial en la década de los 70. Tanto la moda y el estilo punk, así como el pop art invadían el subconsciente de la gente, el punk evolucionaba de tal manera se volvía más denso y oscuro, creando un nuevo género musical: el heavy metal.
