Sose Fuamoli | The AU Review www.theaureview.com/users/sosefina-fuamoli Sose’s career in the arts began in 2006, when she toured and performed with Darwin-based dance company, Sunameke. Relocating to Adelaide in 2009, Sose graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and classics from Adelaide University. Sose has been working as a music journalist and editor for a variety of online and press publications for the past four years. She is currently the South Australian Manager and Head News Editor of - based music and arts publication, The AU Review. Having worked with a variety of Australian and international artists, showcasing Adelaide’s talent has always remained a priority for Sose. Her work has been published Australia-wide and has more recently been featured by CMJ in New York.

Luke Penman | play/pause/play www.playpauseplay.com A few years ago Luke came to the realisation that, despite living in Adelaide, he didn't know any bands from Adelaide. He also realised how much he hated working in dead-end office jobs and vowed to break into the music industry. Fast-forward a few years and Luke has dabbled in artist management and promotions while also running an Adelaide music blog and podcast and hosting Local Noise on . Eventually, Luke plans to come up with a more solid goal than ‘get more people into Adelaide music’. He still works in a dead-end office job.

Craig Lock | 5/4 Entertainment, Messrs www.facebook.com/fivefourentertainment 5/4 Entertainment was started in 2010 by Ross Osmon and Craig Lock. It’s an Adelaide based music company run solely by Adelaide people. They are responsible for artist bookings at The Ed Castle and Adelaide University Unibar, touring international and local acts to Adelaide, managing six Adelaide based musicians, running Spin Off Festival (3000 attendance) and Laneway (4000 attendance) in joint partnerships with key interstate industry figures, providing marketing solutions for touring companies and bands to help increase numbers at their Adelaide shows and scouting local Adelaide based talent for Warner Music.

From New York to Japan to Brazil, Mat McHugh has made a formidable mark on taking Australian roots music to the world. With an impressive back catalogue across his solo work and The Beautiful Girls, his career as a songwriter spans ten releases and an ARIA nomination. His successes begun like many, out of an open mic night in Bondi which grew to guerilla- style gigs in skate parks and shows at the local café. It wasn’t long before, the act we know as The Beautiful Girls forged an unforgettable stamp on surf culture and lifestyle. From touring the world with the likes of Jack Johnson, Chris Cornell and the Trio, Mat continues to weave a career where the focus is always on quality music and lifestyle balance. In between his two headline shows here in Adelaide, he’s taking us on a songwriting journey echoing tales from the road, the studio and those from being classed as one of Australia’s most successful Independent artists.

EVENT MANAGEMENT | WEEK 3 with Dr Steve Brown (Flinders University) Thursday 28 March at Carclew, 6-8pm

Dr Steve Brown is a world recognised leader in the academic field of event management. In 1999 Steve was responsible for creating the undergraduate and postgraduate festival and event design and management programs. He is currently Head of Tourism at Flinders University and is a Founding Director of the International Event Studies Academy. Steve has either helped establish, or has worked on many long standing events such as the , Barossa Under the Stars and WOMADelaide. In 2012 he was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching. . RISK ASSESSMENT | WEEK 4 with Sacha Sewell (El Dorado Music) Thursday 4 April at Carclew, 6-8pm

Sacha Sewell is director of El Dorado Music (EDM). Starting in 2001, EDM have been the Adelaide promoters of for the past 11 years and Adelaide reps for the Soundwave Festival. EDM site manage Parklife and annually in Adelaide, as well as the One Night Stands and other Triple J events around Australia. EDM have also worked on We Love Sounds, Future Music and many other festivals in SA; and site managed the Andre Rieu extravaganza. Prior to establishing El Dorado Music, Sacha cut his teeth as the booker for Adelaide UniBar from 1995 and facilitated the many large festivals and at Adelaide Uni. He was awarded the Achievement Award at the 2012 Fowler’s Live Music Awards.

Annemarie Kohn Annemarie Kohn is a Program Manager at Carclew, overseeing projects across visual arts, digital media, public art and contemporary music. She has curated the Cream public art program at for the last two years, which sees Australian & international artists commissioned to create new works for the music festival environment. Her varied career has encompassed roles such as assessor for Arts SA, the City of , & the Australia Council for the Arts, Co-Chair of the Arts Industry Council of SA, electro DJ in clubs and outdoor parties around the country and various other glamorous and not-so-glamorous jobs for local festivals and events.

Alice Fraser www.facebook.com/thejamroomsa Alice Fraser is a Project Coordinator at Carclew, Music Business Lecturer at MusicSA and also runs her own music events business The Jam Room. Her daily roles cross between curating events, education and venue bookings. Earlier this year she was recognised as Young Citizen of the Year for her ongoing work in developing live music initiatives within Adelaide City. In 2012 she achieved a sell-out season of shows for her series The Reading Room Sessions and The Café Series. At a time of great change and innovation within the global music industry, the do-it-yourself culture of entrepreneurs in Adelaide is something that fills her with great excitement and as a result her passion lies in designing unique and high quality touring and performance opportunities for artists in Adelaide.

MUSIC INDUSTRY Q&A | WEEK 6 with Emma Coyle (One Louder) & Ryan Winter (By Popular Demand Music Agency & Radio Adelaide) Thursday 18 April at Carclew, 6-8pm

Emma Coyle | One Louder www.onelouder.com.au Emma Coyle fell into music ten years ago when she left high school to work on music festivals. After a few years running around the country working for WOMADelaide, Southbound Festival and Bluesfest amongst others, she moved into music publicity and eventually settled into artist management. Her first management experience was with Adelaide bands The Shiny Brights and Steering By Stars. Emma currently works for Sydney-based management company One Louder, where she is the Day Manager for Paul Kelly and , as well as being the Event Manager for Heavenly Sounds (a tour of churches and cathedrals) and Label Manager for Paul Kelly's record label.

Ryan Winter | By Popular Demand Ryan is a music industry all-rounder with a particular affinity for media and business development. Having started his career as the Music Editor of dB Magazine in 2009, he has since worked for organisations such as FasterLouder, Rip It Up, InDaily, Radio Adelaide, the Australian Festival Awards and SLAM (Save Live Australian Music). Ryan currently operates his own music agency By Popular Demand, offering publicity, artist and business development services to the South Australian music industry.
