Academia operosorum was the first Academy on the Slov- enian territory. It was founded in Ljubljana over 300 years ago, already in 1693. this first Academy only had 23 members. they were lawyers, theologians and physicians. the present Slovenian Academy is relative- ly young, it was founded in 1938. It is the supreme national institution uniting up to 100 scientists and artists. the Academy also has up to 90 foreign corresponding members. the Academy promotes sciences and arts through activities organized in six sections. the Slovenian Academy organizes various scientific symposia dis- cussing different topical subjects. through the conclusions of these symposia, the Academy gives advice to politics in the area of culture, science, education, and environment protection. Academy members share conference conclusions with the general public via the Academy website and national media. the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts particularly focuses on actual topics such as perspectives of higher education, evaluation of research results, science ethics, various as- pects of teaching in primary and secondary schools. Climate chang- es, wood and forest are frequently discussed subjects. the public is also interested in attending conferences on the present-day state of humanism, human rights, hate speech and aging. the Academy fre- quently hosts younger audiences, particularly when organizing events related to subjects such as internet, artificial intelligence or robotics. 7 Another important activity of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts is frequent issuing of various publications. Several recent books are treating the history of Academy, describing work of living members and commemorating the opera of individual deceased mem- bers. the Academy regularly publishes periodicals edited by individual sections. Particularly worth mentioning are Acta Carsologica which is a magazine distinguished for its 60 years long history and the interna- tional impact. Slovenian national identity has for centuries been based on Slovenian language. It is therefore not difficult to understand that important achievements of the project Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Slovenian Nation are related to the dictionaries of standard and specialized Slovenian language. the project is conducted jointly with the research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Particularly prominent is the activity of the janez vajkard valvasor Foundation, devoted to issuing the reprints of works of this 17th centu- ry Slovenian polymath. Among them excels the Iconotheca Valvasori- ana, composed of 17 volumes with 7.700 graphical prints of European masters. It has been presented to reputable institutions, including the royal Society of London, the European Union in Brussels, Albertina in vienna, the Beijing University Library, the vatican Library and the Upp- sala Library. the Slovenian Academy actively cooperates with other academies and inter-academy associations throughout the world. So far, the Academy has signed agreements on international cooperation with 40 foreign academies. We also organize or sponsor different international events such as today’s 7th Danube Academies Conference. the Dan- ube Academies Conferences were established through the initiative of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. the importance of the Ljubljana meeting is emphasized by the patronage of the Slovenian President Borut Pahor and the European Parliament. the Danube region boasts many individual highly established sci- entists, experts, and researchers. to further promote the science in 8 the Danube region, it is necessary to bring together these individuals into a more unified and interconnected research sphere. this can be achieved either through bilateral projects between individual coun- tries or through participation in European research programs. In this respect, bilateral national projects must become more directed and efficient, while research groups from the Danube region must strive for being included more frequently into the European research projects. Another problem common to all countries in the region, is the emigra- tion of young researchers who often do not find new opportunities for themselves in Europe. All these problems will be discussed also during this conference together with the main topics, i.e. small and medium sized enterprises, water, energy, and nutrition safety. I would like to use this opportunity to thank the vice-president Pro- fessor Andrej Kranjc for his organizational efforts in preparation of this meeting.     BREGUNICA (Riparia riparia) Factsheet Ptica godine u Hrvatskoj 2016. godine 2016 Veličine od oko 12 cm i težine samo 14 grama, bregunica (Riparia riparia) je najmanja europska lastavica. Vrlo je društvena vrsta, koja gnijezdi u kolonijama, obično u prirodnim, okomitim, pjeskovitim obalama nizinskih rijeka. Bregunica je ambasador živih i zdravih rijeka i gnijezdi u staništima poput prirodnih strmih zemljanih i pjeskovitih obala. Na rijeci Dravi još uvijek živi oko 50% hrvatske populacije bregunica, međutim broj parova se u posljednjih 30 godina smanjio za 90%. Naime, bregunica i druge vrste dravskih ptica pod velikim su pritiskom zbog nestanka staništa, u prvom redu zbog izgradnje obaloutvrda i hidroelektrana koje mijenjaju prirodnu dinamiku rijeke i onemogućuju stvaranje prirodno strmih obala. Pored očuvanja postojećih kolonija, potrebno je obnoviti i dosad uništena staništa, a potrebno je i zaustaviti regulacije te korištenje pesticida duž Bregunica je najmanja riječnog koridora rijeke Drave, koji ubijaju kukce, njihov glavni izvor lastavica u Europi. hrane. Stoga je WWF, zajedno s brojnim udrugama, proglasio 2016. Dužina: 12 cm godinom bregunice, kako bi skrenuo pozornost javnosti na potrebu Raspon krila: 26 - 29 cm očuvanja ove iznimne vrste i njenih staništa. Stanište Gnijezdi se u strmim obalama rijeka, rjeđe u iskopima šljunka i pijeska. Kada se bregunice u travnju vraćaju iz Afrike, počinju kopati oko 70 cm duboke rupe u strmim obalama rijeka. U Hrvatskoj su najbrojnije kolonije na rijeci Dravi (najveću koloniju, koja je u Jelkušu, dijelimo s Mađarskom). Gnijezdi još na rijekama Muri, Savi i Dunavu. Rasprostranjenost Bregunica je rasprostranjena na području čitave Europe, sve do krajnjeg sjevera. Rasprostranjena je i na širem području Azije te Sjeverne Amerike.

In Croatian watercourses, three members of the genus Barbus are found, B. balcanicus, B. barbus and B. plebejus, each occupying a specific ecological niche. This study examined cytochrome b (cyt b), a common genetic marker used to describe the structure and origin of fish populations to perform a phylogenetic reconstruction of the Danube barbel. Two methods of phylogenetic inference were used: maximum parsimony (MP) and maximum likelihood (ML), which yielded well supported trees of similar topology. The Median joining network (MJ) was generated and corroborated to show the divergence of three lineages of Barbus balcanicus on the Balkan Peninsula: Croatian, Serbian and Macedonian lineages that separated at the beginning of the Pleistocene.

The nature and natural values are of great interest for the Republic of Croatia, and they are particularly protected, which is also legally regulated. There are altogether 11 nature parks in the Republic of Croatia: Biokovo, Kopački rit, Lonjsko polje, Medvednica, Papuk, Telašćica, Velebit, Vranko Lake and Učka. The paper presents the particularities and geographic position of all Croatian nature parks. Key words: Nature Park, natural resources, environmental protection 1. INTRODUCTION Nature Park is, according to the Environmental Protection Act of the Republic of Croatia (National Gazette 162/03) regionally natural or partly cultivated land and/or sea area with ecological properties of international or national significance, with emphasized landscape, educational, cultural and historical, and tourist and recreation values. In the Republic of Croatia there are altogether 11 nature parks: Nature Park Biokovo, Nature Par Kopački rit, Nature Park Lonjsko polje, Nature Park Medvednica, Nature Park Papuk, Nature Park Telaščica, Nature Park Velebit, Nature Park Vransko Lake, Nature Park Učka, Nature Park Žumberak – Samobor Mountains and Nature Park Lastovo islands.

Brief analysis of the sources used by the study The study starts from a summary of the available dataset, collected by the leading Catalan seismological compilation (Fontserè and Iglésies, 1971) and consisting of "several contemporary chronistic and narrative sources from Barcelona [...] Perpinyà [...] Vic [...] and Girona [...]". The study then goes on to improve this reasonably good, but uneven dataset by adding new, unpublished contemporary sources and giving a new interpretation of a document already known to Fontserè and Iglésies (1971), which connected it to an earthquake occurred in September 1450. The study shows that it was written on July 1450 and could therefore be related to the previous event. The new data come from the episcopal archives of Barcelona and the central archives of the Aragonese kingdom (ACA, 1453; Acords, 1424-1451; ADV, 1450; Dietari, 1411-1458; ADB, 1448-1453; Jornades, 1411-1484; Revista, 1881).
