  • Landslide Factors and Susceptibility Mapping on Natural and Artificial
Sains Malaysiana 46(9)(2017): 1531–1540 http://dx.doi.org/10.17576/jsm-2017-4609-23 Landslide Factors and Susceptibility Mapping on Natural and Artificial Slopes in Kundasang, Sabah (Faktor Tanah Runtuh dan Pemetaan Kerentanan ke atas Cerun Semula Jadi dan Buatan di Kundasang, Sabah) KAMILIA SHARIR, RODEANO ROSLEE, LEE KHAI ERN & NORBERT SIMON* ABSTRACT This study was carried out on the hilly topographic area in Kundasang, Sabah. This area is known to be extremely prone to landslides that occurred either naturally or by human interference to natural slopes. Aerial photographs interpretation was conducted in order to identify landslide distributions across three assessment years (2012, 2009 and 1984). These datasets were classified into two landslides groups based on their occurrences; natural and artificial. A total of 362 naturally occurring landslides were identified and another 133 are artificial slope landslides. Physical parameters which include lithology, slope angle, slope aspect and soil series were analyzed with each landslide group to examine the different influence of these parameters on each of the group. From the analysis, the landslide density for the natural landslide group shows that more than 35° slope angle and slope aspect facing east and southwest are prone to landslides. In terms of geological materials, high landslide density is recorded in the phyllite, shale, siltstone and sandstone lithologies group and the Pinosuk, Kepayan and Trusmadi soil series. In contrast, for the artificial slope landslide, high landslide density is observed in the 25°-35° slope angle and similar density in every slope aspect classes. The geological materials however have similar landslide density across their factors’ classes.

Sabah and Sarawak cover the northern coast of the island. The lower two‐thirds of Borneo is Kalimantan, which belongs to Indonesia. The area has a fascinating history, and probably because it is on one of the main trade routes through South East Asia, Borneo has had many masters. Sabah and Sarawak were incorporated into the Federation of Malaysia in 1963 and Malaysia is now regarded a safe and orderly Islamic country. Sabah has a diverse ethnic population of just over 3 million people with 32 recognised ethnic groups. The largest of these is the Malays (these include the many different cultural groups that originally existed in their own homeland within Sabah), Chinese and “non‐official immigrants” (mainly Filipino and Indonesian). In recent centuries piracy was common here, but it is now generally considered relatively safe for cruising. However, the nearby islands of Southern Philippines have had some problems with militant fundamentalist Muslim groups – there have been riots and violence on Mindanao and the Tawi Tawi Islands and isolated episodes of kidnapping of people from Sabah in the past 10 years or so.

Pengembangan Usaha Kerupuk Amplang Bandeng untuk Memberdayakan Masyarakat Desa Polejiwa Kecamatan Malangke Barat Kabupaten Luwu Utara Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan Business Development of Milkfish Amplang Crackers to Empower the Community of Polejiwa Village, North Luwu, South Sulawesi 1Harmita Sari, 2Anita Hafid 1Jurusan Ekonomi dan Bisnis, Program Studi Manajemen, Universitas Muhammadiyah, Palopo 2 Balai Penelitian Ternak, Ciawi-Bogor. Korespondensi: Harmita Sari, [email protected] Naskah Diterima: 09 Desember 2018. Disetujui: 14 Oktober 2019. Disetujui Publikasi: 22 Oktober 2019 Abstract. Amplang cracker is one of fish-based snack which is commonly produced by the community. Amplang crackers, which are generally made from mackerel fish, have a high selling price caused by the price of mackerel fish which are quite expensive in the market compared to the prices of other types of fish. This is why the writer proposed an alternative way to make amplang crackers from milkfish which has an affordable price as the product material. With the processing of milkfish as the raw material, it can reduce production cost which will certainly affect the selling price and also as the new alternative to consuming milkfish not only as of the side dish. The objective and target of this community service program were as an effort to help the community to maximize the production of processed food made from milkfish which can be used as an alternative business in increasing community income. Milkfish amplang crackers have relatively inexpensive price compare with mackerel amplang crackers without reducing the taste quality of the amplang crackers itself. Hence, it is hoped to boost up productivity and community income. The implementation of this community service program was training and demonstration of amplang crackers production.

Ismail et al. Journal of Ethnic Foods (2021) 8:19 Journal of Ethnic Foods https://doi.org/10.1186/s42779-021-00095-3 REVIEW ARTICLE Open Access The Malay’s traditional sweet, dodol:a review of the Malaysia’s heritage delicacy alongside with the rendition of neighbouring countries Norsyahidah Ismail1, Muhammad Shahrim Ab. Karim1* , Farah Adibah Che Ishak1, Mohd Mursyid Arsyad2, Supatra Karnjamapratum3 and Jiraporn Sirison3 Abstract The Malaysia’s cultural heritage is authentic, unique and colourful with various local cuisines of different races and cultures. It is mainly originated from the Malay culture being the largest ethnic group in the country. The Malays themselves have contributed to many local cuisines ranging from appetiser, soup, main course and dessert. However, some Malay heritage foods have almost been forgotten and jeopardized in quality. This is especially happening to the Malay sweets or desserts which have gradually become less appealing to the younger generations. They are not even familiar with Malay foods, let alone consuming them. Among the popular Malay heritage foods in Malaysia are lemang, ketupat, rendang, wajik and dodol. Dodol specifically has been listed as one of the endangered heritage foods in Malaysia. Preserving the Malay cuisines is part of sustaining the Malay culture and this should begin with a great amount of knowledge and understanding about any elements within the culture itself. This article highlights a nostalgic and evergreen Malay’s traditional sweet, known by the locals as dodol by discussing its history, different types and names of dodol, as well as the recipes, preparation, cooking methods and packaging.
