Definitions and explanations 172 HANDELSBANKEN ■ ANNUAL REPORT 2010 1 THE GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S COMMENTS Growth and returns Ř Earnings per share in 2010 increased from SEK 16.44 to SEK 17.72. Ř Handelsbanken’s return on equity for total operations was 12.9 per cent. Operating profit for 2010 was SEK 14.8 billion. Ř Our Tier 1 capital grew by SEK 2.2 billion during the year. The capital base amounted to SEK 111 billion and the capital ratio according to Basel II increased to 20.9 per cent. Ř These results meant that for the 39th year running Handelsbanken achieved its corporate goal of a higher return on equity than the average for its competitors. Ř Over the past five years, Handelsbanken’s equity, including dividends paid and share buybacks, has grown by an average of 15 per cent per year. During the same five-year period, total dividends were SEK 27.4 billion. Ř There has not been a single quarter during the past five years when return on equity – after loan losses and tax – has fallen below 12 per cent. Handelsbanken has not issued any new shares during the same period. Ř Last year, Handelsbanken once again had the most satisfied customers in the Nordic region. In Great Britain, the Bank’s lead over its closest competitors was even greater. Ř Demand for credit slowed during the year, particularly from corporate customers. However, the number of credit commitments issued rose. Savings business also performed significantly better than in previous years. I vapnet ingår de tre fälten från släkten Banérs vapensköld, de tre rosorna överst symboliserar trädgårdsstaden Djursholm. När det gamla Banérgodset började sälja ut sin mark i slutet av 1800-talet köptes området närmast slottet av Djursholm AB för att där anlägga Sveri- ges första villa- och trädgårdsstad. Bland aktieinnehavarna fanns flera kvin- nor med relativt stora aktieposter, men ingen av dem satt i bolagets styrelse.1 Bolaget delade upp marken i tomter och skötte även under de första åren sådana tekniska angelägenheter som väganläggningar, vattenledning och elverk, men deltog även i finansieringen av diverse sociala ärenden som att bekosta en barnmorskas lön och ett fattighus. År 1890 övertog municipal- samhället Djursholm det mesta av bolagets tillgångar och åtaganden och 1901 övergick området till att bli Djursholms köping med ett innevånarantal av ca 1 400 personer.2 Ännu fanns ingen kvinna med bland de styrande i kommunalstämman, men i underliggande nämnder hittar vi nu den första kvinnliga ledamoten. Helena Svedelius Helena Svedelius, lärare vid Djursholms Samskola, hade kommit in i det kommunala arbetet när en särskild styrelse för epidemisjukvården valdes i januari 1901 och när en sjukhusstyrelse bildades senare samma år, valdes hon in även där. Helena Svedelius var även den första kvinna som nio år senare, 1910, kom in i en av de högre politiska instanserna som suppleant i kommunalnämnden. The inspiration for the DAMRC is the English collaborator AMRC, to whom a visit just has been paid. With financial support from the Central Denmark Region the DAMRC has further possibilities of increasing the activities to the benefit of the Danish manufacturing companies. DAMRC in Growth – Test-facilities At the general assembly in the month of April 2013 the chairman reported about a DAMRC with ambitions of growth. Thus the DAMRC intends to make a physical difference with the setting up of DAMRC test-facilities. The test-facilities will serve as a framework of new technology-projects in collaboration with manufacturing companies, universities and the vocational schools.
