C A N A D I A N C U L T U R E A R T & D E C O R THE GROUP OF SEVEN The Group of Seven were a group of painters founded in 1920 and ended in 1933. The original Group of Seven included Franklin Carmichael Lawren Harris A.Y. Jackson Franz Johnston Arthur Lismer J.E.H. MacDonald and F.H. Varley. They painted brightly coloured landscape paintings of the Canadian Shield and the boreal forest. They used simple forms, and presented themselves as Canada's firs tnational school of painters, which made many of the current artists of the day angry. Today, their images are used to represent Canada's strength and independence and helped establish a national vision of Canada. THE INDIAN GROUP OF SEVEN The Indian Group of Seven was made up of Jackson Beardy, Eddy Cobiness, Alex Janvier, Norval Morrisseau, Daphne Odjig, Carl Ray and Joseph Sanchez. They originally started meeting in the early 1970s where they would discuss issues related to prejudice in the art community. In 1974 they formally joined together to work for inclusion. Together, they helped bring Indignous art to the general Canadian population. In the 1960s he started the band Buffalo Springfield and also worked as a member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and as a solo artist. His greatest hits include Cinnamon Girl, Southern Man, Old Man, and Rickin' In The Free World. Early in life, Neil Young suffered from epilepsy, type 1 diabetes and polio and was unable to walk by 1951. His solo career begain in 1970 with the album After the Gold Rush which included the song Southern Man which inspired Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama. CANADIAN HOLIDAYS Important Canadian holidays include Canada Day (July 1), Victoria Day (to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday - the Monday before May 25th), Labour Day (First Monday in September), Remembrance Day (November 11) and Boxing Day (December 26th) The Moose and Bison will be closed on Labour Day to help celebrate and reward our employees who work har dall year. On Canada Day, we will be offering 18% off all entres, and drinks for 67 cents in honour of the year 1867 when Canada became a country. CANADIAN FAMILIES In Canada the average family size was 2.5 people in 2011. Because families are smaller, The Moose & Bison will include many tables with 4 chairs instead of bigger. Our Restaurant will include a big screen and projector and play hockey games regularly.
