This investment should be a central component of Scotland’s green recovery from Covid, creating thousands of jobs whilst delivering infrastructure that is essential to tackle the climate emergency, that supports our long-term economic prosperity, and that will be enjoyed by generations to come. Funding for the exercise was provided by ScotRail, with additional in-kind contributions from members of the WHCRP project team. The WHCRP is a newly established community organization covering the West Highland railway corridor from Mallaig to Crianlarich, as well as its hinterland. With an overall aim of working in partnership with the railway industry to make train travel a more attractive option for locals and visitors alike, it commissioned the survey to identify the issues that constrain use of regional rail services. 2 Methodology As discussed and agreed with the WHCRP a two-stage methodology was adopted and used: a paper and web-based survey of local user needs and an ‘offline’ face-to-face survey of tourists. -

Building Better Transport CEC02083844_0001 Building Better Transport Ministerial Foreword When I was appointed Tr ansport Minister last spring, Scotland's Transport: Delivering Improvements was not long published. That document identified key priorities for transport that have underpinned our work over the last year. It also promised that we would issue a report on progress. We have taken huge steps forward since then. The key to progress was our decision last year to allocate unprecedented sums to transport over the next three years. Spending on transport will rise by over 50% over three years, with almost £1 billion per annum being spent by 2006. Spending on public transport - which is now top of our priorities - will rise by over 70% in three years. That decision made an enormous impact. There is now money to fund major new infrastructure projects. The sense of momentum is building. People are beginning to believe. Transport improvements that once seemed a pipe dream stand a genuine chance of becoming reality. The new communications links that businesses have been crying out for are just around the corner, and the economy will thrive on them. Resources are not unlimited, but we can be certain that the transformation of Scotland's transport infrastructure will be well under way by the end of the decade. We have been criticised in the past for not committing the funds needed to enable major projects to proceed. That has now changed. All schemes will still have to continue to demonstrate value for money and stand up to rigorous economic and environmental scrutiny. But the security of a £1 billion per annum budget has enabled us over the year to make firm funding commitments, including the MS and M80 motorway upgrades in west central Scotland; the reinstatement of the Airdrie-Bathgate railway line; a new bypass, the Western Peripheral Route, for Aberdeen; and has allowed us to make further progress with rail links to Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. -

This note was developed following feedback from the public at Public Exhibitions, held on the 27 th and 28 th January 2016 and the Community Council meeting, held on 8 th February 2016. It therefore focusses on key sections within the engineering and environmental assessments to address issues raised. The DMRB Stage 2 Assessment for the Pass of Birnam to Tay Crossing section is anticipated to be complete in the coming months with an announcement on the Preferred Route Option expected in Autumn 2016. BACKGROUND A DMRB Stage 2 Assessment has been undertaken on the three current route options. A summary of the route options is given in Table 1. It should be noted that the route options follow the same horizontal alignment and differ only vertically in the vicinity of Dunkeld & Birnam Station and the proposed Dunkeld Junction. Railway stations, bus stations, and ferry terminals have been audited with consideration given both to cyclists who might want to park their bike and to those who plan to take their bike with them (for instance on the train or ferry). Each audit has involved an on-the-ground survey using the Interchange Toolkit which was developed for this project. The survey considers aspects that could make a cyclist’s journey easier or more difficult, starting from the station or terminal approach, through entering, to locating parking or the appropriate boarding point. Features such as signage, suitable routes, and access to facilities have been included.
