Here Lewis takes on the role of high priestess, shaman, mentor, father, mother and witness to the pestilent and strategic construction of white identity in the United States. The White Guilt Confessional absolves white guilt by encouraging the plagued to face, question, learn-from and transform their guilt into change in their respective spheres of influence. BBB:RETROSPECTIVE will program multiple live performances every evening over the course of 4 nights. The live performances will be a program of performative work that examines the theme Retrospective. The term Retrospective has been considered and used more in contemporary times than it has been in the past one hundred years. Selected performances will be an examination of or related to the past. There will be performances that are an examination of history as far back as one hundred years, to one year, to one month, to one week. Performances that examine a macro retrospective, such as social, political, or economic history will be juxtaposed with performances that examine a micro retrospective such as personal histories related to identity, family, and aging. Our self-concept is conceived in relation to others. As babies our sense of security is rendered by how well our care-takers attuned to our needs. In this way we come to understand ourselves through the gaze of others. As young people we narrate to others why we are doing what we are doing—and so our self- concept is strongly influenced by the “audience” we initially narrate to. Our auto-biographical self becomes a stabilized force within us when we realize we are the “audience” we are “narrating” to when we engage in private speech. Our public-self is the public presentation of both our present and future selves in relation to the audiences we are narrating to. The current social model which by and large tends to reward a singular manifestation of the self, limits the wide range of multiplicity found within any given individual. It outlines strategies and tactics for reaching those goals, and the Baltimore Together team hopes this document will serve as a call to action and roadmap for a range of partners over the next five years.     Application PDF Bromo Tower Arts & Entertainment, Inc The Painted Path in the Bromo Arts & Entertainment District Request: $35,000.00 Baltimore National Total Match: $35,000.00 Baltimore City PROJECT TITLE: The Painted Path in the Bromo Arts & Entertainment District PROJECT SUMMARY: The grant and matching funds will cover all costs associated with the expansive creative wayfinding project, which includes: hiring a public art agency, Graham Projects, to plan and design the installations with community input; installing 18 major sidewalk artworks and roughly 70 wayfinding markers; all materials; hiring subcontractors; and City permits. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Project Description The Painted Path will connect historic heritage and modern cultural sites through creative wayfinding to engage visitors and increase tourism in the Bromo Arts & Entertainment District (The District). Community input will guide the planning and design of site-specific sidewalk artwork at 18 main sites that will be connected by a wayfinding path of up to 70 markers. Community volunteers will paint the final piece of sidewalk art, marking the completion of the project. The Painted Path is a self-guided walking tour, drawing visitors to significant District sites and allowing these sites to interpret their own heritage and cultural history.     MARYLAND Hisorical Magazine SPRING/SUMMeR 2017 Maryland Blood: An American Family in War and Peace, the Hambletons 1657 to the Present Martha Frick Symington Sanger At the dawn of the seventeenth century, immigrants to this country arrived with dreams of conquering a new frontier. Families were willing to embrace a life of strife and hardship but with great hopes of achieving prominence and wealth. Such is the case with the Hambleton family. From William Hambleton’s arrival on the Eastern Shore in 1657 and through every major confict on land, sea, and air since, a member of the Hambleton clan has par- ticipated and made a lasting contribution to this nation. Teir achievements are not only in war but in civic leadership as well. Among its members are bankers, business leaders, government ofcials, and visionaries. Not only is the Hambleton family extraordinary by American standards, it is also re- markable in that their base for four centuries has been and continues to be Maryland. Te blood of the Hambletons is also the blood of Maryland, a rich land stretching from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the tidal basins of the mighty Chesapeake to the mountains of the west, a poetic framework that illuminates one truly American family that continues its legacy of building new genera- tions of strong Americans. Martha Frick Symington Sanger is an eleventh-gen- eration descendant of pioneer William Hambleton and a great-granddaughter of Henry Clay Frick.
