Dubbo Rugby Junior Club A HUGE THANKS!!

Once again, Michael Adams and Golden West Holden have come on board as the major sponsor for Dubbo Rugby Junior Cricket Club. Their ongoing commitment is greatly appreciated and allows us to provide a quality sporting experience with excellent equipment at a fraction of the cost of other sports.

So, the next time you are in the market for a new car, please make sure you consider the people who support us!

We also have a number of other sponsors who also make valuable financial contributions to our club. Don’t forget to utilise their services whenever possible. OLD What did the fox say? (a.k.a. the President’s Report) Welcome all to this year’s President’s report. Once again, I am proud to say it has been another successful season both on and off the playing fields.

The season began in early October with our club nominating seven sides from U9’s through to U14A competitions. The club welcomed on board new coaches in Greg Cant U9’s and Shane Sissian U12B Rugby Blue.

To date, the teams have performed competitively and Rugby will be represented in the semi-finals in all grades except the 9’s and 10’s as they don’t run semi-finals.

To all the coaches, Greg Cant, Carl Jones, Shane Sissian, Glenn Shepherd, Peter Hennessy, Andrew Rose and yours truly a job well done. These gents give up their time each week at training and game days which is well appreciated.

Of course teams cannot operate with an administration. I would like you to thank the following people for making this season exist.

Colin Harper – Secretary/Treasurer Donna Ambler – Publicity officer Rugby Junior Committee – All the above coaches

Again these people work tirelessly for the club and without them we do not exist.

Without sponsor’s we do not exist so please thank the following:

Major Sponsor – Golden West Holden. To principal owner Michael Adams we again cannot thank you enough; you have given your hard earned to us for some time now to which we do appreciate.

To Andrew and Yvette McDonald – McDonald Commercial

Donna and Chris Ambler – The Verb Garden

Craig and Tanya McGrath – Central West Gates and Fencing

A big thankyou for your continued support, it is very much appreciated.

To all the parents who get involved, a big thankyou from my heart. I believe Rugby Juniors are the best club in Dubbo and this does not happen unless we have devoted people in you. Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!

In saying this, the club cannot survive on the same people putting their hand up each year to form the committee. The club will be actively pursuing new blood for next season, so come on parents let’s get involved for the future of RJCC.

In finishing I would like to congratulate all the trophy winners on the day and all the sides best of luck in your competitions.

Best Regards

Steven Wheeler

What a wonderfully talented group of young cricketers, but even more importantly a tremendous bunch of great kids who became good mates, encouraging each other both on the cricket field and whilst playing tips between innings.

The boys love their cricket with the result not being so important to them. Even though the results were less important than the games after the match, the boys only lost two games all season.

To all the boys, thanks for being very well behaved each week, encouraging each other and working so hard on your cricketing skills. I am very proud of all of you and hope to see you back for season 2014 / 2015.

Louis Russell – loves his cricket, being one of the team’s most consistent performers.

Louis’ top score for the season was 29 with his best figures being 2 for 0.

Dugald Shepherd – ‘Mr Cricket’ lives and breathes his cricket. Dugald is one of our fastest bowlers, hits the ball hard and loves to run. He had a brilliant highest score of 56 and best bowling figures of 3 for 4.

Angus Rose – worked very hard in the field when he wasn’t sitting down! Angus displayed great experience and always encouraged the lesser experienced players in the team. Angus had a highest score of 24 and best figures of 2 for 6.

Coen Austin – worked tirelessly on his bowling throughout the season and this paid off with Coen capturing eight for the season. Coen’s best effort with the bat was 34 and super figures of 3 for 5.

Liam Ayre – was a very enthusiastic and consistent performer each week who never complained. He showed a unique ability to bowl both right and left arm. Liam’s best score with the bat was 11 and best bowling figures of 2 for 8.

Paddy Cant – he loves his Thursday night cricket as long as he has ‘Wonderbat’!

Hitting two sixes against Cyms was the highlight of his season. His best effort with the bat was 36 and best bowling figures 2 for 1.

Riley Jensen – our token Kiwi, played just like a Black Cap. Riley displayed a huge amount of enthusiasm towards his cricket. Riley’s best score with the willow was 24 and his best bowling figures of 2 for 12. Harrison Quinn – a very talented cricketer who loves taking wickets (equal top taker). He was unlucky against Cyms to miss out on a hat trick in his first over only to get four in a row in his second. His best effort with the bat was 45 and he had unbelievable figures of 6 - 2.

Ned Jones – a quiet achiever who became possibly the teams most improved player.

The left armer was equal highest wicket taker. Ned’s best figures were 3 for 11 and highest batting score of 20.

Oliver Brown – was a very consistent and enthusiastic player. Oliver loved to do it all and would bowl or bat all day if allowed. Oliver’s highest score with the bat was 35 and best bowling figures of 3 for 2.

A huge thank you to fellow coach James Austin for his help and the encouragement he showed towards our players. To Kurt Jensen and Tony Quinn, thanks for helping the boys in our absence. To all the parents, thanks for making each Thursday night a very relaxed and social event. Thanks to the Shepherds for encouraging the sausage sizzle each week and lugging the barbeque in each week.

2013-2014 Season we had four new players join our under 10's in Harrison Cowen, Harrison Austin, Seaun Stanley and Zac Warren. The boys all fitting in nicely with the great mix of returning players from last year’s under 9's. Again under the Coaching team of Gary Goodman and Carl Jones the team enjoyed their cricket and improved their skills during the year.

We would like to thank all the parents for coming along and showing your support each week. Special thanks to Gordon Cowen, Luke Cameron & Rob Atkins for cooking the BBQ each week which kept the team fed.

We hope the children have enjoyed their season with us and we wish them all the best for next year when they step up to under 12’s.

Another great year was had by the mysteriously renamed Rugby White 12Bs. We welcomed Joe Cant, Connor Mathieson and Eli Hausia into the team and they all fitted in straight away. The boys all played with a lot of enthusiasm and, most importantly, with great sportsmanship throughout the season. It was fantastic to watch all them all improve their skills and it was no coincidence that the boys who turned up the most often at training were the ones who made the biggest improvements. We went very close to getting below our goal of 30 wides and no balls in an innings on a couple of occasions.

We managed to notch up 3 wins for the season, including one huge 43 run win. It was a game where the boys put their best bowling, batting and fielding effort into the one game and showed how well they can really play! Because we have a lot of boys who are a few weight divisions below our opponents, it has been hard to get the ball through the field to score runs. But by improving their running between the wickets skills, the boys have learnt to sneak a few extra runs! Our straight bowling was right up there with the best in the comp too.

I’d like to thank all the mums and dads and other rellos who have helped get the boys to training and the games each Saturday. You can all be proud of the boys’ efforts, and their manners and attitude are a credit to you all. I appreciate the opportunity to coach them and if they’ve had half as much fun as I have this year, they should have enjoyed themselves! A special thanks to Greg Cant and Grant Clissold for scoring, and to them and Darren Maxwell and Stu Harland for some square leg umpiring.

Connor Mathieson – never without a grin on his face, Connor puts in 100% each week. Is starting to show a bit of keenness and skill with the keeping gloves. A season highlight was 2-0- 2-7 with the ball. Never seen apart, he is B1 to Samuel’s B2. Both are arborists in the making judging by the amount of time they spend up trees.

Samuel Harland – B2. Samuel’s bowling has really improved this year and his enthusiasm is shown by regular attendance at training and having not missed a game all season. Pulled off a fantastic catch under the high ball using a combination of chest and hands!

Blake Bennett – our very own pocket rocket. His bowling has also come a long way and has the potential to be quite slippery once he works out how to open the fridge. His speed in the field has come in handy too, pulling off a couple of great run outs during the year.

Joe Cant – has shown a lot of natural ability for his first year in cricket, with both bat and ball. Hard to dismiss, he has passed 25 twice and been 6 times. A regular wicket taker (best, 2-11 off 2) he also dragged in a fantastic diving catch late in the season. He could really develop into a tidy cricketer if he puts in the practice. Meteorologist in future – big fan of cloud watching! Jacob Clarke – another who loves his cricket, Jacob always puts in 100%. This was rewarded with a magnificent 27no late in the season, including a couple of big pull shots for 4! His sneaky leggies are coming along well and he’s also pulled of a couple of great catches.

Ryan Maxwell – another hard man to get out, with 8 not outs for the year, including a great 26. His technique is starting to come together with his muscle, culminating in a massive 6 over cow corner in round 14! A regular contributor with the ball, he has worked hard at smoothing out his stride and the results are showing. Lethal in the field, he has thrown down the stumps 3 times for run outs. Must think cricket has evolved from soccer given the times he tries to stop the ball with his feet!

Alexei Pawlenko – very passionate about his cricket, and not afraid to advise the coach of what he thinks should happen next (but always in the most polite manner)!! When he runs through the crease hard, his bowling is spot on. Also snared an excellent catch behind the stumps. He has promised me big things from the newly-purchased Kaboom - Jerry Maguire “show me the money” Alexei!!

Connor Clarke – another huge improver with the ball this year, Connor’s bowling has come a long way. An absolute terrier in the field, he has pulled off a couple of the saves of the season, usually with him having to check if his hand is still attached afterwards!

Ryan Duffy – showed some great promise with the bat on a couple of occasions, including a great knock of 23 early in the season. Demonstrates a good understanding of the game by backing up in the field too. As always, he has pulled of a couple of the catches of the year, especially when he doesn’t have time to think about it and the reflexes take over! Mr Miyagi memorial award.

Eli Hausia – a great effort from a first time player. A couple of 25 retired knocks and 3-0-2-5 with the ball were his stand out performances. When he realises there is an offside and he doesn’t have to hit it into the river each ball, his batting will only improve further. Eli has the best set of hands in the team, notching up 6 catches for the season including a couple of great dives. He got his hands to some attempts that most boys in the comp would not have got near. Chris Gayle “big swing” award.

Lawson Shepherd – has a great bowling action like his hero Mitchell Johnson! Showed genuine pace at times and also hints of inswing to the right handers to make life even more difficult (best 2.1-0-0-4). Shows great maturity with shot selection, demonstrated in one game where the field was set on the fence when he was on strike and he just took the singles each ball. 2x25 retired knocks. Has surely set some record for being out “hit wicket” twice in a row! Singlehandedly kept Channels 9 & 10 in business with cricket watching over the summer. Zac Clissold – shows a nice straight bat, making it hard for the opposition to get him out (4 not outs in 9 innings). Has to get angry with that ball and hit it through the field a bit more! When he concentrates, he can bowl some good lines and lengths, with 2-0-2-7 being a stand out performance. The Alan Bond “I forgot to call” Amnesia Award for running between wickets!

On behalf of the team, I would like to say a huge thankyou to Patty Cant (5 games) and Dugald Shepherd (9 games) for filling in when we had players away. They even helped out Rugby Blue for a week as well. It is a big step up from the U9s, but they acquitted themselves very well and their cricket will be all the better for it. Thanks also to Harrison Quinn for stepping up for 1 game.

Well done guys – looking forward to next year already!

This team was a new combination this year. We welcomed back some players from last year’s Under 10s team, were pleased with the addition of a few newcomers to the game who developed incredibly quickly and benefited from the strength and experience of three boys who played

Under 12s last year.

The boys from Under 10s were enthusiastic about donning pads and helmets to face the six- stitcher in their introduction to “real cricket”. With support from Shep early in the season with coaching arrangements and Shane’s ability to train the team after Christmas, they all developed great skills.

Our biggest challenge has been to keep the number of sundries down. The week we recorded only 20 extras saw our scorers double checking and Shane almost did a rain dance.

Thanks to Alex Jones for helping out a couple of times when we were short. Special thanks also to Dugald Shepherd, Patrick Cant and Harrison Quinn who also stepped up from Under 9s for a game. Harrison was particularly impressive that week – taking 3/4 off three overs – a performance that had Shane looking for a contract to sign.

Our thanks also go to all the boys’ parents for their support during the season, particularly our regular scorers, Nick Hurford (who has the tidiest handwriting we’ve ever seen) and Dimitri Benias. Richard Chewings was reliable with his encouragement at training and in setting a field that was challenging enough every week.

All the members of this team should be proud of their efforts and we hope they have enjoyed the game enough to back up again next season. The individual performance highlights for each team member this year are:

Lachlan Adams – a laid-back player who was happy to be involved in the game, Lachlan spent a few innings with the wicket keeper’s gloves this season, with good results. His personal top score was an impressive 19 runs and his best bowling was 1/5. Lachlan is a good-natured cricketer whose game has developed this season. Nathaniel Ambler – one of our top run scorers this season with 156 runs, Nate is also a reliable bowler. The youngster of the team, he’s a strong cricketer who scored our only six this season.

His enthusiasm for the game is infectious on the field, especially when the team takes a wicket. Nate shows a lot of promise, particularly if he avoids hitting catches.

Jackson Bailey – probably the strongest arm in the outfield among this team. Jackson kicked off the season with a quarter century in his first match and continued to work hard on his bowling, with good results and a best innings result of 2/10. Jackson is a reliable wicket keeper, but stood out as our most reliable tail end batsman.

Jack Benias – the team’s most economical bowler, with an impressive 10 maidens and only 79 runs recorded against him. Jack works hard to meet his own high standards and has a great future in cricket. His dedication to his bowling effort has paid off this season. His line and length are consistent and he has learnt to control his pace.

Darcy Chewings – Donna is glad she mentioned the team was looking for a couple more players at the end of last year’s soccer season. Darcy no sooner took up the sport than he was picked in the Under 11s development program. A genuine “nice guy” Darcy is one of our most consistent and economical bowlers, with 11 wickets this season. He also managed 29 not out with the bat one week. Darcy deserves to be recognised as the team’s best and fairest player.

Jonathan Dixon – one of our quiet achievers. Jono is a boy who never stops smiling and keeps on trying. Jono continues to underestimate his ability and surprised himself a few times when he took a wicket. With his best bowling figures 1/9, Jonathan has had an enjoyable season and is bound to improve even more as he grows stronger.

Justin Dunn – another new player to the game, Justin loved being amongst the team and was keen to play every week. He took five wickets during the season and had a few stints as wicket keeper. With some personal training sessions from an enthusiastic neighbour, Justin developed his own style and is likely to continue to improve.

Guy Harrison – in an incredible turnaround, Guy scored more runs in his first match this season than he did last year. Another strong player, Guy was one of the older boys whose experience and laid-back sense of humour helped bolster the team. Guy took nine wickets in the season, with 2/11 as his best figures in an over that showed his potential. Rory Hurford – another unassuming player, Rory is easily our most improved team member this year. His calm nature and persistence have paid off and the work he put into the January cricket clinic with Len Pascoe showed quick results, particularly with his bowling. Rory is supportive and cooperative and can be proud of his achievements. His bests stats were 2/7 and 24 not out.

Franco Marais – showed another consistent performance this year. Franco is a great all-rounder whose easy-going nature makes him popular with the team. An economical bowler with a best innings of 1/3, Franco is a steady and reliable batsman. He’s quick to take a run but without being too risky and managed to score a total of 156 runs throughout the season to be out top run scorer on an average of 31.2 runs.

Koda Sissian – Just as well Koda decided to take up cricket this year or the team would be without a coach! Koda batted and bowled well all season. He is strength on his side and he was among the top four wicket takers, with a best innings of 2/11. Koda was not out four times and recorded 28 not out as his highest score. With a great cricket pitch in his own back yard, this boy has lots of promise. Back row: Franco Marais, Nate Ambler, Rory Hurford, Jonathan Dixon, Darcy Chewings Front row: Jack Benias, Justin Dunn, Jackson Bailey, Koda Sissian, Lachlan Adams, Guy Harrison

The 2013 -14 season introduced us to 2 day games and quarters cricket. The boys took to the challenge and were competitive from the outset. We finished last year at the bottom of the table and for the first time this team will make it to the semi finals. The boys are to be commended on such an improvement.

The competition was very even this year with every game a real battle resulting in many close finishes. Great leadership from our Dominic Ambler steered us through these tough matches. It was always great to see him organizing the field and also leading by example with great vision and fielding himself.

This season was our first time we had a full time wicket keeper in James Finch. James did an outstanding job each week behind the stumps and also still managed to take 6 wickets with some nice bowling.

It was great to see that every game was a real team effort every week and everybody contributed. The enthusiasm in the field was reflected by the amount of run outs we took being 12 which made a huge difference to many results. Catching was improved from previous years but there is always room for more practice though, with the boys taking 17 for the year.

It must be said the new found cricket sledging was entertaining (for a while) with regular calls of

“on his toes and off he goes”, “send the bails out of NSW”, the favourite “send him a Yorker and he’ll be a walker” and unfortunately there are others.

Bowling was once again shared with everyone getting a bowl each week. Some matches we had problems with our extras but there was an improvement in this area over the season. Edward

Hennessy, Dominic Ambler, Redmond O’Connor and Mackinley Shipp were always reliable to slow down the run rate and achieved a good number of maiden overs between them. Our breakthrough man when wickets were hard to come by was Anthony Hollman with Hugh Duncan,

Jack Duggan and Lachlan Whitney also chipping in with some good wickets.

The team was also developing in their batting this season. Ryan Simpson and Edward Hennessy achieved the retired score of 50 and James Finch fired up this season for some notable innings.

Redmond O’Connor, Hugh Duncan, James Dennis and Dominic Ambler also impressed with the bat. The whole team improved in running between the wickets and there was good support from such players as Harry Eggleton and Mackinley Shipp.

Special mention to Dominic Ambler and Edward Hennessy for making representative duties in the Macquarie Valley U12’s it was a great experience for the boys and good fun mixing with other boys from various clubs.

It is said each year but it is still true the whole experience for both coach and players is enhanced when there are supportive parents. Every week we have parents helping at training and also on match day making a great experience for all. The dads that set up and collect the boundary markers each week are appreciated and special mention must go to our full time scorer Chris Ambler for doing such an accurate job each week.

Good luck next week team and enjoy your first experience in the semi-finals.

What a year the boys have had. They have performed very well this year, with it probably being the most consistent session that they have had since starting in the Under 9’s. We are sitting 3rd on the ladder going into our last round of games, with only losing 2 games to the same team by a very small margin each time.

No matter what the result is on Saturday we will be in the semi’s again this year. We are in a very good position to be able to progress through to the finals if all of the boys perform to the standard that they have performed all year.

We welcomed 3 new players this year to the team being Alex Brien from Wellington, James Rich and Aaron Boyle a first time cricketer this year. All have been a very valuable addition to the team. We have also said a big good bye to two of our longer standing players who headed to the big smoke being James Debus & Charlie Lawyer. I know the other kids parents were not too happy about this due to their fathers being our main scorers over the years and now others had to pick that role up.

As the boys are growing you can really start to notice the development of their cricket skills to a higher level. Each of the boys continue to develop their skills at different paces, it is very pleasing to see that each continues to develop and seems to be enjoying the game just as much as they did when they all started.

As always I can speak on behalf of the boys, we are all very appreciative of the parents and supporters who have given us their support throughout the season. Without you all, Saturday mornings would not be possible and as enjoyable as it is. We have a great bunch of parents, with any one of them more then happy to get in and assist when they see it is required or even if I ask.

To the Dubbo Rugby Cricket Club and committee members, thank you to everyone for all that you have done throughout the year. Without the devoted committee members we would not have the wonderful Rugby Cricket Club that we have.

I have to also thank the parents who have assisted with the scoring, especially to Peter Debus, Simon Lawler, Les Mathews and Dave Rich, and along with Greg Knaggs coaching in my absences. To the boys, all the best of luck for the semi’s next week and then hopefully the big GF. Please

give it your all, but remember whatever the result is, the main thing to do is enjoy your cricket and play it in the right spirit.

After winning last years under 12 premiership the boys had to go up a grade this season to help form a 14A competition.

The side not only are playing against older boys but also lost Dominic Ambler, Pat Hennessey and Angus McDonald from the previous season. This was helped somewhat by the return to our side in Logan Watmore.

The side began the season with a convincing win over the much fancied rivals Newtown and from there confidence was gained for us to go onto win another two games causing a major boilover by defeating the previously undefeated Cyms side prior to Christmas.

To their credit the boys have competed on a level over and above my expectations to which I am very proud.

The side continues to play as a team and individuals continue to improve each year.

Some performances of note so far are:

 Logan Watmore 55 not out v  Ben Wheeler 43 v Newtown Newtown  Campbell Rose 71 not out v  Hayden Lew 45 v Newtown Newtown  Ben Wheeler 40 not out v Cym’s  Will Grant 4 for 18 v Newtown  Max Rumble 41 v St Johns  Tom Pascoe clean bowling Marty  Logan Watmore 37 v St Johns Jeffrey for a duck v Newtown

 Tom Pascoe 4 for 18 and 13 runs v  Tom Pascoe brilliantly catching St Johns Douglas Medcalf v Newtown.  Ben Wheeler 38 v Cym’s

To all the parents, in particular those who help score each week thankyou for your continued support to me and your boys.

Whatever happens between now and the season end the boys have over exceeded expectations. Back row: Ben Wheeler, Ethan Willetts, Hayden Lew, Angus McDonald, Tom Pascoe, Baye Wallace, Logan Watmore Front row: Will Grant, Max Rumble, Roland Kelly, Mitch Rosenbaum
