Im Sport für Menschen mit Behinderung, besonders im Leistungs- sport, spielen Klassifizierungen eine bedeutende Rolle, da hier die Unterschiede bei den jeweiligen Voraussetzungen zur Ausübung einer Sportart besonders individuell und vielfältig sind. Für die verschiedenen Sportarten wurde daher ein umfangreiches Klassi- fizierungssystem entwickelt, um einerseits gerechte Wettkämpfe zu ermöglichen und andererseits die Attraktivität des Sports zu gewährleisten.

Jede paralympische Sportart verfügt über ihr eigenes Klassifizie- rungssystem. Die Systeme werden von den jeweiligen internationalen Sportfachverbänden entwickelt, bei Bedarf aktualisiert und es werden Entscheidungen darüber getroffen, für welche Beeinträch- tigungen die Sportarten angeboten werden sollen und können. Nur die Klassifizierung für AthletInnen mit einer Beeinträchtigung der Sehfähigkeit ist für alle Sportarten gleich.

A comprehen- sive classification system has therefore been devised for the various sports to, on the one hand, ensure fair and equal competition and guarantee the attractiveness of the sport on the other.

Each Paralympic sport has its own classification system. The systems are developed by the respective international federation governing the sport. If required, the federations update the classifications and decide which impairment types their sport should and can cater for. Only the classification for athletes with a visual impairment is the same for all sports.

Beim Para Eishockey bewegen sich die AthletInnen auf einer Art Schlitten über das Eis. Sie haben irreparable, offensichtliche Behin- derungen in der unteren Körperhälfte, so dass die Beweglichkeit eingeschränkt ist. Erfüllt werden müssen die Kriterien des minima- len Handicaps, die gewöhnliches Schlittschuhlaufen oder Eishockey spielen unmöglich machen. Spielfeld, Ausrüstung und Spielregeln entsprechen dem Eishockey der Sportler ohne Behinderung. Zur Fortbewegung mit dem angepassten Sitzschlitten und zum Spiel dienen zwei kurze Schläger, an deren Enden Spikes angebracht sind. Die Spielzeit ist etwas kürzer, so dauert ein Drittel 15 Minuten.

In Para Ice Hockey, athletes propel themselves over the ice sitting in a kind of sledge. They have irreparable, obvious impairments of the lower part of the body that lead to a limited range of movement of the lower limbs. The criteria of minimum disability making normal ice skating or playing ice hockey impossible has to be fulfilled. Playing area, equipment and rules are the same as those for ice hockey for athletes without an impairment. To propel the adapted seated sledges and to play the game, players use two short sticks with a spike-end. Playing time is a little shorter, each period lasts 15 minutes.

In der Sportart Para Ski alpin gibt es Startklassen für stehende, sitzende und sehbehinderte AthletInnen. Innerhalb dieser drei Kategorien wird ein Faktorsystem angewendet, um die Leistungen so vergleichbar wie möglich zu machen. Dieser Faktor hat Auswir- kungen auf die Zeit, so dass die Uhr bei den AthletInnen mit schwe- reren Beeinträchtigungen entsprechend langsamer läuft. Dadurch wird einer Verteilung auf zu viele verschiedene Startklassen entgegengewirkt. Zusätzlich zu den Kategorien gibt es die Diszipli- nen Abfahrt, Super-G, Super-Kombination, Riesenslalom und Slalom. So werden insgesamt 30 Goldmedaillen vergeben (sechs pro Disziplin bzw. zehn pro Kategorie).

Die Kategorie der Stehenden ist in sieben Klassen aufgeteilt. AthletInnen mit Amputationen an Armen und/oder Beinen fahren entweder auf einem Ski mit zwei Skikrücken (Beinamputation) oder mit einem bzw. ganz ohne Skistock (Armamputation). Möglich ist auch die Verwendung einer Gelenkprothese auf zwei Ski (z.B. für Unterschenkelamputierte). In der Kategorie der Sitzenden fahren die AthletInnen den Hang auf einem gefederten Skisitzgerät mit einem Monoski und zwei kurzen Skikrücken hinab. Die AthletInnen mit

In addition to the sport classes, there are also the downhill, super-G, super combined, giant slalom and slalom disciplines. A total of 30 gold medals will be awarded (six per discipline and ten per category respectively).

The standing category is divided up into seven sport classes. Athletes with arm and/or leg amputations either compete on one ski with two outriggers (leg amputation) or with one or no poles respectively (arm amputation). Also possible is the use of a prosthesis on two skis (e.g. for athletes with below the knee amputations). In the sitting category, athletes ski down the slope on a seat with a suspension system mounted on a mono-ski and two short outriggers. Athletes with a visual impairment are accompanied by a guide who has to ski in front of the skier up to the last gate giving them verbal instructions or signals.

In Para Nordic skiing, there are sport classes for standing, sitting and visually impaired athletes. Within these three categories, a percentage system is used to make the performances as comparable as possible. The various impairments are therefore converted into time. Consequently, a division into too many different sport classes is avoided. In both biathlon and cross-country skiing, there are three different distances (short, middle and long) so that a total of 36 gold medals are awarded in the individual competitions. There are also two relay events. In the sitting category, athletes with severe impairments to their legs or wheelchair users compete in a special sit-ski. Another special feature is to be found in biathlon for visually impaired athletes as they use rifles equipped with electro-acoustic glasses. Wearing head- phones, the biathletes aim by hearing – the higher the tone, the closer to the centre.

In der Kategorie der Sitzenden starten stark gehbehinderte Athle- tInnen oder Rollstuhlfahrer in einem speziellen Skischlitten. Eine weitere Besonderheit gibt es im Biathlon der Sehbehinderten: Die AthletInnen benutzen Lasergewehre und orientieren sich an der Höhe des durch einen Kopfhörer übertragenen Tones, der die Nähe zur Scheibenmitte angibt.

Para snowboarding was only introduced into the Paralympic programme in Sochi in 2014. Accordingly, the classification system is still being developed. Whilst in Sochi there were solely competitions for athletes with impairments to their legs (SB LL) and therefore only two gold medal events, ten will be awarded in PyeongChang. This is down to, on the one hand, the dividing up of the competitions in the SB LL sports class into several classes. On the other, there are also medal events for athletes with impairments to their upper limbs (SB UL).

Two sports classes: SB LL und SB UL SB LL: Snowboarders in this class have impairments to the function- ing of the legs, like amputations above the ankles or spasticity of the ankle and knee joints as well as muscle weakness in the legs. Athletes with amputations compete with a prosthesis. The class is further divided into LL-1 and LL-2 and evaluated separately.

Para Snowboard ist erst 2014 in Sotschi ins paralympische Pro- gramm aufgenommen worden. Entsprechend befindet sich auch das Klassifizierungssystem noch in der Entwicklung. Während es in Sotschi ausschließlich Wettbewerbe für AthletInnen mit Be- einträchtigungen in den Beinen (SB LL) gab und damit nur zwei Medaillenentscheidungen, werden in PyeongChang zehn Medaillen vergeben. Grund dafür ist einerseits die Aufteilung der Wettbewer- be der Klasse SB LL in mehrere Startklassen. Andererseits gibt es nun auch Medaillenevents für AthletInnen mit Beeinträchtigungen in der Funktion der oberen Gliedmaßen (SB UL).

Zwei Startklassen: SB LL und SB UL SB LL: Snowboarder dieser Klasse haben Beeinträchtigungen in der Funktion der Beine wie Amputationen oberhalb der Fußgelenke oder Versteifungen der Fuß- und Kniegelenke sowie Beeinträchti- gungen der Muskelfunktionen der Beine. AthletInnen mit Amputa- tionen starten mit Prothesen. Die Startklasse wird zusätzlich in LL-1 und LL-2 unterteilt und jeweils getrennt bewertet.

Beim Rollstuhlcurling starten die AthletInnen ausschließlich im Roll- stuhl. Häufige Behinderungen sind Multiple Sklerose, Querschnitt- lähmungen, Zerebralparese oder doppelseitige Beinamputationen. Die AthletInnen mit den geringsten Beeinträchtigungen können bes- tenfalls kurze Strecken gehend zurücklegen. Beim „Schach auf dem Eis“ ist besonders Präzision und Konzentration gefragt. Unterschiede zum Curling gibt es kaum. Einzige Ausnahmen: Der Stein wird nicht direkt mit der Hand gesetzt, sondern wegen der erhöhten Sitzposi- tion über einen Stab, dem sogenannten Extender. Zudem wird nicht gewischt. Weitere Vorgabe: In jedem Team muss mindestens eine Frau und mindestens ein Mann vertreten sein.

In wheelchair curling, athletes compete solely in a wheelchair. Common impairments are multiple sclerosis, paraplegia, cerebral palsy or amputations to both legs. Athletes with the lowest degree of impairment can at best only walk short distances. In “chess on the ice”, precision and concentration are of utmost importance. There are hardly any differences to curling for people without impairments. The only exception is that the stone is not delivered directly with the hand but, due to the higher sitting position, using a delivery stick with an extender. There is additionally no sweeping. Another regulation: every team has to consist of at least one woman and at least one man.
