Members present The following Council Members were present at the meeting in Oberhofen, Switzerland on 6th November 2010: President Gian Franco Kasper, Vice-Presidents Yoshiro Ito, Janez Kocijancic, Bill Marolt and Sverre Seeberg, Members Mats Årjes, Dean Gosper, Alfons Hörmann, Roman Kumpost, Sung-Won Lee, Giovanni Morzenti, Vedran Pavlek, Eduardo Roldan, Peter Schröcksnadel, Patrick Smith, Matti Sundberg, Michel Vion and Secretary General Sarah Lewis. Guest: Urs Lehmann, President of the Swiss Ski Association. The Council clarified that the position of the attendance of the President of the host National Ski Association at a Council Meeting (who is not an elected Council Member) is only extended for the Council Meetings in the host nation. Furthermore, the Council highlighted the following article of the FIS Statutes: 30.5 Council Members act and vote as independent individuals and not as representatives of their National Association. Following the admission from Council Member Giovanni Morzenti that he has been convicted by a court in Cuneo, Italy of extortion, the Council decided to accept the proposal of Giovanni Morzenti to provisionally suspend himself as a Member of the FIS Council until such time as the case is concluded. -

Total country capacity is the sum of all the individual lifts capacity. Number of skiers transported yearly: Meant by number of passengers transported per leg; one skier taking 5 times the same lift accounts for 5 skiers transported, also called “Frequencies”. Participation rate nationals: Rate of skiers in total country population. Ski area: Notorious place of ski practice (in some countries, they may even account no lifts) Ski resort: A ski resort is considered as an organised ski area with more than four lifts. Skier visits (or skier-days): One person visiting a ski area for all or any part of a day or night for the purpose of skiing, snowboarding, or other downhill sliding. Skier visits include full-day, half-day, night, complimentary, adult, child, season pass and any other type of ticket that gives a skier/snowboarder the use of an area's facilities. Skiers: One person practising ski, snowboard or other downhill slide, independent of the rate of practice. Vertical Transport Meters per Hour (VTMH): Product of each individual lift hourly capacity, times vertical (in fact the figure is usually expressed in thousands). -

Eight cities (hereafter “the Applicant Cities”) have applied to become Candidate Cities to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, namely (in the order of drawing of lots): Vancouver (CAN) Pyeongchang (KOR) Sarajevo (BIH) Harbin (CHN) Jaca (ESP) Bern (SUI) Salzburg (AUT) Andorra la Vella (AND) The recommendations adopted by the 110th IOC Session in December 1999 in Lausanne resulted in fundamental changes regarding the procedure leading to the election of the Host City for any Olympic Games. Such changes have been incorporated into the Olympic Charter, more particularly Bye-law to Rule 37. -

The eyes of the world are on the expansive and luxurious resort as Y Yongpyong is playing host as the official venue for alpine skiing competitions at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which commenced on February 9, 2018. Constructed in 1973 on the hills of Balwang Mountain in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province, Yongpyong Resort is Korea’s very first ski resort with modern facilities. The resort began to actively host international winter sporting events from 1991, establishing itself as a regular host for high-profile events such as the Yongpyong Peace Cup FIS Alpine Ski Competition, FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events and the Winter Asian Games.
