REVIEW GUIDE Review Embargo: Tuesday 16th of may at Midnight PDT /8AM BST/ 9AM CEST OVERVIEW You are freshly hired exo-technician Warren, and you begin the game on the first day of employment at CREO, a mysterious research and development complex that, prior to your arrival, has suffered a catastrophic event. Equipped with your industrial exo-skeleton, you must fight, loot, and equip to survive environments overrun by machines and employees gone haywire. Good luck.

The Surge is an action RPG set in a world ravaged by war and global warming. The game offers a hardcore experience, with a focus on challenging, visceral melee combat. It features fresh fighting, looting and crafting mechanics, alongside a unique character progression system. Fitted with your exo-suit and cybernetic implants, harness super-human strength to survive the CREO complex, a mega-corporation that set out to save the world, but ended up tearing it apart.

Enhance your exo-suit with near-endless combinations of armor and weapons, each with their own move sets as you slice your way through steel and flesh to loot, craft, and improve your rig. Salvage weapons and modular armour, by using the dynamic targeting system to attack and dismember limbs individually. From lighting rigs to heavy lifters, security armor to advanced, secretive technology - mix and match equipment to suit your playstyle and overcome the adversarial and environmental challenges that plague the malfunctioning complex.

Take on huge, industrial bosses in a complex gone mad and discover the truth about CREO. COMBAT AND TARGETING Combat is challenging and unforgiving. You’ll need to carefully study your enemies, rather than blindly rushing and wildly swinging your weapon without focus.

Looting upgrades for your exo-suit is key to progression. features a physically based combat system where positioning plays an important role in attack and defense. In order to hit the limb you want, your weapon must make contact with the limb regardless of the limb you are targeting. Attack both horizontally and vertically with careful positioning in order to maximize the chances of hitting your intended limb.

If you deal enough damage to your targeted limb, you will cut off that limb once you perform the execution finisher. However, if you do not deal enough damage to the limb, it will not disconnect from the body. Locking and targeting specific limbs is not always necessary, but important when eyeing up a specific upgrade.

You play by the same rules as your enemies. Get hit in unarmoured parts, and you’ll take more damage. Positioning and stamina balancing is key to success! DEFENSE OPTIONS DUCK HIGH/LOW ATTACK JUMP NEUTRAL MIDDLE ATTACK BLOCK

Use Block (LB/L1) to avoid MID ATTACKS Use Duck (LB/L1+RSv) to avoid HIGH ATTACKS Use Jump (LB/L1+RSc) to avoid LOW ATTACKS EQUIPPABLES As an employee of CREO, you are fitted with an exo-suit intended for industrial work inside the CREO complex.

Weapons and implants can be equipped instantly, but armors must be crafted from blueprints gained from loot drops at the med-bay.

In The Surge, balancing your core-power is very important. Core-power is split between implants and armors. It’s possible to mix and match all of these equippables – some more than others, if you want – to create a ‘build’ that matches your style of play. For example, if you want more health injections, you can equip two of the corresponding implants. You can see how power is distributed among your equipment, and how that affects your statistics, on the statistic screen.

YOUR DRONE You have support, use it! For most of your journey through CREO, you are not alone. After the first , you will gain access to the personal drone. Pressing Y will send your drone into a combat situation as you continue to fight, for a limited time. Your drone can be upgraded and equipped with an array of abilities, both offensive, defensive, and in support of your positioning. SECRET PATHS AND SAVING The further you delve into CREO and the longer you survive, the more tech scrap (XP) you’ll gain from defeating enemies and bosses… always look out for the road to safety. You are able to quit the game and maintain your position and tech-scrap, but if you die you’ll be sent back to your previous med-bay. Enemies will respawn, and you can farm them. Exploration is dangerous, but important.
