We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the second edition of the 2018 European Alliance for Innovation (EAI) International Conference on Advanced Hybrid Information processing (ADHIP 2018). This conference brought together researchers, developers, and practitioners from around the world who are leveraging and developing hybrid information processing technology for smarter and more effective research and application. The theme of ADHIP 2018 was “Hybrid Big Data Processing.” The technical program of ADHIP 2018 consisted of 64 full papers, with an acceptance ratio of about 28.1%. Aside from the high-quality technical paper presen- tations, the technical program also featured two keynote speeches. The two keynote speeches were delivered by: (a) Dr. Guangjie Han from the Department of Information and Communication System at Hohai University, P. R. China, who has served as a co-chair for more than 50 international conferences/workshops and as a Technical Program Committee member of more than 150 conferences, as well as serving on the Editorial Boards of up to 20 international journals, including the IEEE Network, IEEE Systems, IEEE ACCESS, Telecommunication Systems, among others, and has guest edited a number of special issues of IEEE journals and magazines including the IEEE Communications, IEEE Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, Computer Networks; and (b) Dr. Guan Gui from Focus Lab at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT), P. R. China, who is an IEEE Senior Member, and has been an editor of Security and Communication Networks (2012–2016), IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2017*), and KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems (2017*), as well as editor-in-Chief of EAI Transactions on Artificial Intelligence (2018*). Coordination with the steering chairs, Imrich Chlamtac, Guanglu Sun, and Yun Lin, was essential for the success of the conference. We sincerely appreciate their constant support and guidance. It was also a great pleasure to work with an excellent Organizing Committee, and we thank them for their hard work in organizing and supporting the conference. In particular, we thank the Technical Program Committee, led by our TPC chair, Dr. Shuai Liu, who completed the peer-review process of technical papers and compiled a high-quality technical program. We are also grateful to the conference manager, Andrea Pieková, for her support and to all the authors who submitted their papers to the ADHIP 2018 conference and workshops. We strongly believe that the ADHIP conference provides a good forum for all researchers, developers, and practitioners to discuss all scientific and technological aspects relevant to hybrid information processing. We also expect that future ADHIP conferences will be as successful and stimulating as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume.
