Admin prepared a special schedule allowing hour-long lunch periods in order to mingle in the courtyard and take advantage of the eclipse itself. There was a definite shadow cast as the moon obscured the sun, yet we did not experience a total eclipse or darkness. Still, what an experience. Mrs. Escobar, Astronomy teacher, had her students set up information tables sharing viewing safety tips and handing out eclipse glasses. They were prepared to help all students and staff with questions about this astronomical event. What is a solar eclipse? What are the different types of solar eclipses? How often do they occur? What is the path of totality? How does a total solar eclipse affect animal behavior? Astronomy students also shared and demonstrated indirect viewing tools and techniques during the eclipse. It was a very successful event. Just for the record, the next total eclipse will be July 2, 2019. You can see it on land at sunset in either Chile or Argentina, or on a cruise ship in the South Pacific Ocean!
