A key to the seven species of Punctelia found in the study area is presented. Keywords — Punctelia colombiana, Punctelia constantimontium, Punctelia fimbriata, Punctelia graminicola, Punctelia rudecta, Punctelia appalachensis Introduction The Brazilian cerrado is included in the savanna world biome. It is recognized as one of the world’s five hot spots of biodiversity and threatened vegetation (Fonseca et al. 1999). Cerrado formation is structurally and physiognomically heterogeneous, varying from grasslands (campo limpo) to arboreal structures (cerradão) (Coutinho 1978). In São Paulo State, cerrado vegetation originally occupied 20% of the territory, but at present only ca. 1% of the original area remains (Zorzetto et al. 2003). In an ongoing effort to describe and document the biodiversity of the lichenized mycota, a survey of Parmeliaceae in remnant cerradoes in inland São Paulo State was performed (Jungbluth 2006). Several new species were recognized, as expected in such a diverse biome (Jungbluth et al. 2008). Thirty species of Punctelia are known worldwide (Egan & Aptroot 2004), sixteen of which are recorded for Brazil (Marcelli 2004).

    Nymsuque: Contemporary Muisca Indigenous Sounds in the Colombian Andes Beatriz Goubert Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2019 © 2019 Beatriz Goubert All rights reserved ABSTRACT Nymsuque: Contemporary Muisca Indigenous Sounds in the Colombian Andes Beatriz Goubert Muiscas figure prominently in Colombian national historical accounts as a worthy and valuable indigenous culture, comparable to the Incas and Aztecs, but without their architectural grandeur. The magnificent goldsmith’s art locates them on a transnational level as part of the legend of El Dorado. Today, though the population is small, Muiscas are committed to cultural revitalization. The 19th century project of constructing the Colombian nation split the official Muisca history in two. A radical division was established between the illustrious indigenous past exemplified through Muisca culture as an advanced, but extinct civilization, and the assimilation politics established for the indigenous survivors, who were considered degraded subjects to be incorporated into the national project as regular citizens (mestizos). More than a century later, and supported in the 1991’s multicultural Colombian Constitution, the nation-state recognized the existence of five Muisca cabildos (indigenous governments) in the Bogotá Plateau, two in the capital city and three in nearby towns. As part of their legal battle for achieving recognition and maintaining it, these Muisca communities started a process of cultural revitalization focused on language, musical traditions, and healing practices. The field phase of this study took place in November 2007 (rainy season) and February 2008 (dry season). The Limnological condition Colombia indices developed (biotic indices of communities: BI, and limnological conditions index: LICOI) allow classification of wetlands into three categories: those that have ‘‘acceptable limnological conditions’’ (Meridor, Jaboque and Guaimaral), those with ‘‘regular limnological conditions’’ (Santa Marı´a del Lago, Juan Amarillo) and those with ‘‘poor limnological conditions’’ (Tibanica). None of the environments studied fit a potential fourth category of ‘‘best limnological conditions.’’ The LICOI is a management tool that can be used to assess changes in wetlands after positive actions (restoration, cleaning, hydraulic management), or negative impacts (depletion, alien species, pollution).
