Brisbane Show Moves to a New Venue… BRISBANE SHOW MOVES TO A NEW VENUE… FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MONDAY 6TH NOVEMBER 2017: After much feedback for a more intimate and partially seated venue closer to the CBD, the promoters have listened to the public and are moving the Brisbane concert of The Human League to The Tivoli Theatre (Fortitude Valley). The date will remain the same for the show – Sunday 17th December, with Pseudo Echo and Wa Wa Nee still as the support acts. All tickets previously purchased for Eatons Hill will automatically transfer over to The Tivoli Theatre. David Bowie famously said of The Human League ‘’I have seen the future of Pop Music” and he wasn’t wrong. Decades later, they are still in high demand and touring. The Human League have become pop icons in their own lifetime, with a career in which they have earned a reputation for fantastic live shows, sold millions of albums, and inspired two generations worth of recording artists. They have had No. 1 singles across Australia, Europe, the US, and undeniably given us some of the most memorable pop songs ever. Fans adored their unique mix of sound & image - from their beginnings as an artsy, avant-garde electronic band, to their chart-topping new wave hits of the 80s. The Human League’s landmark album, Dare, which was released in 1981, saw them blowup worldwide. It spawned the smash single, Don't You Want Me and followed on with favorites such as Love Action (I Believe In Love) and Open Your Heart. Dare was so successful that it went on to be included in Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Albums of the 80’s. In turn, the pop group constantly pushed forward, staying together and playing together. The story of The Human League encompasses three very distinct line-ups, all of which have their merits, but one thing unites them: The Human League are not just a pop group – they are possibly the last great pop group. Believe. Pseudo Echo will support The Human League on their East Coast tour of Australia. They formed in 1982, releasing their first album, Autumnal Park, in 1984 which skyrocketed the band to household name status across the country. Their second album, Love an Adventure, spawned another string of hits including its title track, Don't Go, Try, Living in a Dream and their remake of the Lipps, Inc. song Funkytown. This particular song brought the group their biggest international success and spent seven weeks at No. 1 in Australia from December 1986. In 2012 Pseudo Echo celebrated their 30th anniversary and released their sixth studio album, Ultraviolet. Later this year, they will release their new single Nutbush City Limits. WA WA NEE broke the Australian tradition of pub rock in the mid-’80s with a combination of expertly packaged funk- pop, designed for a mass audience. WA WA NEE’s ascent of the Australian charts began with the April 1986 release of the single Stimulation, which peaked nationally at No. 2 on the Singles Chart. Three further singles also made the Australian Top 20 and their self-titled debut album yielded platinum sales of over 70,000 and a Top 30 hit in the US with Sugar Free. Sadly the band called it quits in 1988 though founding member, Paul Gray, has continued working as an in-demand writer, producer and musician between reformation shows. • New Entry of Record Labels in the Music Industry
Start Me Up: New Entry of Record Labels in the Music Industry Master Thesis MSc Business Administration Management and Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries Faculty of Economics and Business, Amsterdam Business School Myra Alice Wilhelmina Ruers - 11903929 Supervisor: Dr. M. Piazzai 21st of June 2018 Statement of Originality This document is written by Student Myra Ruers, who declares to take full responsibility for the contents of this document. I declare that the text and the work presented in this document is original and that no sources other than those mentioned in the text and its references have been used in creating it. The Faculty of Economics and Business is responsible solely for the supervision of completion of the work, not for the contents. 2 Abstract The music industry is extremely vibrant, diverse, and inherently uncertain. Record labels are the main intermediaries in this industry, facilitating the connection between the creative input from musicians and the demand from the consumers. Due to many technological advancements, the barriers to entry have decreased significantly, hence making it easier to enter this industry as a new record label. Additionally, strategic integration options allow existing firms to start new ventures by acquiring or initiating subsidiaries. This research focuses on the multiple modes through which new entry can be commenced. These entry modes all have their own characteristics and consequences for the configurations of the industry. The likelihood of entry, the subsequent performance of new record labels, and the effects on the diversity of the output are the main topics that are explored. In this study, databases storing longitudinal information on musical releases are used to compile a dataset with the necessary information on new record labels.

Originally from Australia, he came to the UK in the mid-1960s to work on the traditional folk circuit, and made an obscure and run- of-the-mill traditional folk solo album in 1966, Overlander. From late 1967 to late 1969, the singer-guitarist was in Eclection, a little- known British folk-rock group that made recordings with Elektra. Lucas became romantically involved with Fairport Convention singer Sandy Denny in the late 1960s, and together the pair formed Fotheringay, who made a good folk-rock album in 1970. Despite the group's considerable promise, it folded after that sole LP, when Denny, the biggest talent in the band by far, left for a solo career. Lucas joined Fairport Convention, who at that point had been shorn of all their original members, in mid-1972, with Denny (whom Lucas married in 1973) rejoining the band in early 1974.
