  • Rose Tattoo: Una Banda De Culte

  • ADAM and the ANTS Adam and the Ants Were Formed in 1977 in London, England
ADAM AND THE ANTS Adam and the Ants were formed in 1977 in London, England. They existed in two incarnations. One of which lasted from 1977 until 1982 known as The Ants. This was considered their Punk era. The second incarnation known as Adam and the Ants also featured Adam Ant on vocals, but the rest of the band changed quite frequently. This would mark their shift to new wave/post-punk. They would release ten studio albums and twenty-five singles. Their hits include Stand and Deliver, Antmusic, Antrap, Prince Charming, and Kings of the Wild Frontier. A large part of their identity was the uniform Adam Ant wore on stage that consisted of blue and gold material as well as his sophisticated and dramatic stage presence. Click the band name above. ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN Formed in Liverpool, England in 1978 post-punk/new wave band Echo and the Bunnymen consisted of Ian McCulloch (vocals, guitar), Will Sergeant (guitar), Les Pattinson (bass), and Pete de Freitas (drums). They produced thirteen studio albums and thirty singles. Their debut album Crocodiles would make it to the top twenty list in the UK. Some of their hits include Killing Moon, Bring on the Dancing Horses, The Cutter, Rescue, Back of Love, and Lips Like Sugar. A very large part of their identity was silohuettes. • The Record Producer As Nexus: Creative Inspiration, Technology and the Recording Industry
The Record Producer as Nexus: Creative Inspiration, Technology and the Recording Industry A submission presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of Glamorgan/Prifysgol Morgannwg for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Michael John Gilmour Howlett April 2009 ii I certify that the work presented in this dissertation is my own, and has not been presented, or is currently submitted, in candidature for any degree at any other University: _____________________________________________________________ Michael Howlett iii The Record Producer as Nexus: Creative Inspiration, Technology and the Recording Industry Abstract What is a record producer? There is a degree of mystery and uncertainty about just what goes on behind the studio door. Some producers are seen as Svengali- like figures manipulating artists into mass consumer product. Producers are sometimes seen as mere technicians whose job is simply to set up a few microphones and press the record button. Close examination of the recording process will show how far this is from a complete picture. Artists are special—they come with an inspiration, and a talent, but also with a variety of complications, and in many ways a recording studio can seem the least likely place for creative expression and for an affective performance to happen. The task of the record producer is to engage with these artists and their songs and turn these potentials into form through the technology of the recording studio. The purpose of the exercise is to disseminate this fixed form to an imagined audience—generally in the hope that this audience will prove to be real.

  • 1986 - Rock's Renaissance Man
1986 - Rock's Renaissance Man Written by Time From: Time magazine, October 27, 1986 Got a movie. Got a record. Got some wild, wild life. "Oh," David Byrne said, "you want to see the African fire ants?" It was deep night out on a Texas plain flat as a pan bottom and just about burned through. A recent rain had slaked the land a little but brought forth legions of ants to infest the ground and pester a nearby film set. Exterminators were summoned, ants dispatched, but one actor, arriving late, felt he had missed out on some fun. "Follow me," said Byrne sympathetically, as he grabbed a flashlight and walked into the dark. This is a man whose first great song was called Psycho Killer. A man who is the formative force behind Talking Heads, one of the decade's most formidable bands, a group responsible for the sweetest, strangest, funniest rock to roll over the '70s and nestle into the '80s. A man who should be hanging close to the set, seeing to the details of directing his first feature film, not striking out on some weird nocturnal expedition in search of hymenopterous marauders. He may not resemble the manic murderer in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, but he will never be mistaken for Mark Trail either. Is this a man to follow into the night? No question. It took a while, and a little stumbling, but Byrne found what he was looking for. He stood near a mound of earth and shone his light down and waited.

  • Tennessee Williams and the Representation of Animal Images
International Journal of Innovation, Creativity and Change. www.ijicc.net Volume 9, Issue 2, 2019 Tennessee Williams and the Representation of Animal Images Muslim Mohda*, Lehmood Al-Mamourib, a,bAl-Mustaqbal University College Hilla ,Babylon , Iraq, Email: a*[email protected] Since Aristophanes, playwrights have cast animals in roles where they represent human behaviour. These playwrights have chosen one or more animals to pinpoint behavioural tendencies of their characters. Ben Jonson (Volpone), Anton Chekhov (The Seagull), Henrik Ibsen (The Wild Duck) and Eugene Ionesco (The Rhinoceros) are such playwrights who use animal imagery to depict, and comment on, human behaviour. This paper does not deal with animal imagery as it is generally understood in similes and metaphors; in dialogue and descriptions. Instead, this paper deals with animals and their images as metaphors of characters in respective plays. Tennessee Williams was one playwright who employed animals as motifs. He never tired of experimenting with the idea that animals, properly selected and harnessed, could best capture the mental state of his protagonists. This paper is concerned with the "why" and "how" of his powerful fascination. Key words: Animal imagery, conflict, metaphor. Introduction In his personal life, Williams was a fond lover of animals and always had a pet in his house. Attention to this aspect of his personal life was drawn by an apparently trite reference in Richard F. Leavitt's The World of Tennessee Williams, a book prepared from material, both pictorial and biographical, supplied by the playwright himself. It is therefore regrettable that his biographers and critics have generally ignored this - shall we call it the animal side - of his personality.

  • Glocal Dialects in the Sydney Jazz Scene: Indigenisation Through the Influence of Oz Rock and Asian Musics
2016 © Jeremy Rose, Context 41 (2016): 35–44. Glocal Dialects in the Sydney Jazz Scene: Indigenisation Through the Influence of Oz Rock and Asian Musics Jeremy Rose There has been a growing interest in the indigenisation of jazz music around the world through a process known as ‘glocalisation’—the push and pull of both local and global music forces.1 This phenomenon has been witnessed in nationalist interpretations of jazz music outside of the USA, where artists seek to authenticate their music through adopting local traditional instruments and folk melodic material into jazz music contexts.2 Distinct national jazz identities have been audible in Brazilian, Nordic, and Japanese jazz scenes, to name a few. Musicians from these countries have conveyed their national character through jazz by borrowing from local traditional cultures, often creating unique musical statements that have added to the global discussion of diasporic jazz music identities. This article, which presents the findings of eleven interviews with Sydney jazz musicians, discusses how and why Sydney musicians are observed to be favouring some of the same sources as their Asian counterparts and enacting a process of indigenisation by drawing on a distinct form of popular music native to Australian soil: Oz rock. 1 Stuart Nicholson, Is Jazz Dead? (Or Has it Moved to a New Address) (New York: Routledge, 2005) 167. See also Stuart Nicholson, Jazz and Culture in a Global Age (Massachusetts: Northeastern University Press, 2014). 2 See E.
