DAN HOEHN | FROM THE PASTOR Dear Brothers and Sisters, Tomorrow, November 11th, is Veterans Day – the day on which we, as a nation, honor our American soldiers for their service to our country. I am grateful for the heroic witness of the men and women from our parish who have fought (or are currently fighting) to keep our country safe, and to protect our inalienable rights. If you sometimes confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day, hopefully the following explanation will help. It comes from one of our military moms, Kathy Teach. She and her husband, Terry, are volunteers in our St. Michael Military Ministry, and have two sons and two daughters-in-law in the military. Thank you, Kathy, for the following article! Yes, There is a Difference Between out the year, but this weekend, we offer an extra prayer of deep and enduring gratitude to our Veterans Day and Memorial Day veterans.

Cookery is considered to be both an art and science. The art of cooking is ancient. The first cook was a primitive man, who had put a chunk of meat close to the fire, which he had lit to warm himself. He discovered that the meat heated in this way was not only tasty but it was also much easier to masticate. From this moment, in unrecorded past, cooking has evolved to reach the present level of sophistication. Humankind in the beginning ate to survive.

Developing Strategic Interventions to Reduce Cardiovascular Disease Risk Among Law Enforcement Officers The Art and Science of Data Triangulation by Sandra L. Ramey, PhD, RN, Nancy R. Downing, MSN, RN, and Angela Knoblauch, MSN, RN RESEARCH ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to use data triangulation to inform interventions targeted at reducing morbidity from car- diovascular disease (CVD) and associated risk factors among law enforcement officers. Using the Precede-Proceed Health Promotion Planning Model, survey data (n = 672) and focus group data (n = 8 groups) from the Milwaukee Police Department were analyzed. Narrative transcripts disclosed that law enforcement officers encounter potential barriers and motivators to a healthy lifestyle. Survey results indicated rates of overweight (71.1% vs. 60.8%) and hypertension (27.4% vs. 17.6%) were significantly p( < .001) higher among Milwaukee Police Department law enforcement officers than the general population of Wisconsin (n = 2,855). The best predictor of CVD was diabetes (p = .030). Occupational health nurses are uniquely positioned to identify health risks, design appropriate interventions, and advocate for policy changes that improve the health of those employed in law enforcement and other high-risk professions. ardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause reality underscores key issues concerning the increased of death in the United States (American Heart As- risk of CVD among law enforcement officers.
