FR. DAN HOEHN | FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Tomorrow, November 11th, is Veterans Day – the day on which we, as a nation, honor our American soldiers for their service to our country. I am grateful for the heroic witness of the men and women from our parish who have fought (or are currently fighting) to keep our country safe, and to protect our inalienable rights. If you sometimes confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day, hopefully the following explanation will help. It comes from one of our military moms, Kathy Teach. She and her husband, Terry, are volunteers in our St. Michael Military Ministry, and have two sons and two daughters-in-law in the military. Thank you, Kathy, for the following article!

Yes, There is a Difference Between out the year, but this weekend, we offer an extra prayer of deep and enduring gratitude to our Veterans Day and Memorial Day veterans. Near the east entrance of the church, Have you ever wondered what the difference is there is an updated poster listing of current active between Veterans Day and Memorial Day? LITURGY THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER (2) MASSES FOR THE WEEK MEMENTO SUNDAY, November 10 After directing our prayers of offering to God 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time the Father through Jesus Christ, the priest 7:30AM + Jane Mary Dunne Mark & Colleen Schmitt prays for the Church, the Pope, the local 9:00 AM + Brandy Gallagher Family bishop and all “who holding to the truth, hand 10:30AM + William Saelinger Carol Fox on the catholic and apostolic faith.” And then 12:00PM St. Michael Parishioners the priest says the “Memento” which is Latin for “Remember.” MONDAY, November 11

“Remember, Lord, your servants, N. and N.” Saint Martin of Tours, Bishop

At this point the priest and all the people 6:30AM + Arthur L. Stern, Sr. Kern Family pause to pray in silence for a few moments. 8:00AM* + Dan Donovan Murphy Family What do they pray for? Actually, the question TUESDAY, November 12 is “who” do they pray for? They pray for “N. Saint Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr and N.”, with the “N” signifying the first letter 6:30AM + Evelyn Buschman McMahon Family of the latin word “nomen” which means “name.” The moment has arrived to pray for 8:00AM + Ruby Orf Family people and for their needs, because the Mass WEDNESDAY, November 13 is first of all an opportunity for prayer of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, Virgin petition. 6:30AM + Bri McGrath Sue Spahn Who do you pray for? The priest is obligated 8:00AM + Carmella DeLeo Ann Trotta on Sundays to pray for his parishioners, but for most priests — as times goes on— their list THURSDAY, November 14 grows more and more. One of my favorite 6:30AM + Richard Irwin Dorn Family authors, a priest himself, Fr. Leo Trese offered 8:00AM Neil Aldworth Family this reflection on the Memento in his book FRIDAY, November 15 “Vessels of Clay”: Saint Albert the Great, Bishop & Dorctor of the Church “I just can’t bring forward enough intentions . . 6:30AM + Jack Beck Rogers Beck Family for the time is so short. . . All I can say is ‘For all 8:00AM + Marilyn Pallardy LaBelle Family the intentions, Lord, which I mentioned to You in my morning prayers.’ It is a long list, whose SATURDAY, November 16 established pattern undergoes daily additions Saint Margaret of Scotland; Saint Gertrude, Virgin and modifications.” 8:00AM + Enrique Mendivil Family

“Yes, it is a long list, and full of detours, images 5:00PM St. Michael Parishioners evoked and evil done and good left undone, of SUNDAY, November 17 individuals in need and souls in distress, of 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time responsibilities shirked and graces wasted. It is 7:30AM + Pauline Knauf Al Knauf well that ten minutes of my morning prayer time has been reserved for the making of my 9:00 AM + Patricia Houle Anne Houle daily intentions . . .It is well too that the Mass 10:30AM + Ramona Rubio Singh Amparo Schroeder IS an inexhaustible torrent of graces; there is 12:00PM + Lenore Juco Bautista Family so much to pray for, so much…” * indicates a School Mass
