August 11, Pre-meeting field trip (by invitation only)

Purpose: To better understand the regional landscape, land use, environmental and social issues, including hydropower dams, agriculture, wetlands, forest and urban development.

8:00–8:30 Getting Together and registration 8:30–10:30 Travelling to visit a Nam Mang hydropower station I in Vientiane province (2 hour drive) 10:30-11:30 Travelling to Phou Khao Khouay National Bio-Diversity Conservation Area, in Vientiane Province. 11:30-12:30 Meeting and discussing with a staff of Phou Khao Khouay National Bio-Diversity Conservation Area

12:30-13:30 Lunch break

13:30-16:30 Visiting a rural village (ບ້ ານ ພູ ເົຂາຄວາຍໃໝ່ ), seeing PKK landscape and brush Walking (or possibly seeing a water fall) and discuss recent change in rural communities resulting from land use change, climate, and other socioeconomic changes in the country.

16:30-17:00 Returning to a hotel

August 12, Pre-meeting field trip

9:00 – 12:00 Organized trip to Vientiane downtown and assess urban development and urbanization issues. Group lunch in a local restaurant 13:00 Return to hotel and have a free afternoon
