PROGRAMME AND BOOKING DETAILS

Please find below the current programme for our 2018 weekender. All entry fees are included in the price, as is lunch on both days, handouts and bus travel on the Sunday. You will need to pay for your own transport to Cornwall, accommodation and dinner. There will be quite a lot of walking on both days, so please wear sensible footwear and dress for the weather. If you have mobility issues please let us know and will do our best to ensure that you see everything! Timings and visits may change.

Meet at 0915 at Tower Head Pumping Station (Stephen Taylor of Form Design, 1998) Baker's Folly, 1910-27. We hope to have internal access. Redrails, 1930s - as featured on George Clarke's 'Old House New Home. Internal access. Quesnelle, 1954, Cowell, Drewitt & Wheatley. Internal access. Tregunnel Hill, development (we are hoping to have a short talk by a member of Duchy staff). Newquay Library J Hicklin 1962 and opened by John Betjeman. St Michael's Church Ninian Comper, 1909-11, with later addition, S Comper, 1961 (where we will have an hour tour with a local historian). St John's Ambulance building (1936) and United Reform Church Victoria Parade in East Street Great Western Hotel (remodelled in the 1920s- 30s). External only. Bristol Hotel 1933 (where we will have a short talk on its history and finish off with a much deserved drink!). Sunday 14th October - walking and bus tour a bit further afield

Bus to meet delegates at 0900 at Newquay railway station. Chester Road for a one-hour circular walk - but we may use the bus to speed things up a bit. To include: 108 Henver Way (1930s); The White House (1935); Sea House (The Bazeley Partnership, 2010); and new builds at Lusty Glaze (AR Design Studio, 2015). Bus to Newquay Police Station and Former Magistrates Courts (1973). We will have 40 minutes here (the Magistrates Courts will not be open). Bus to St Columb Minor, where we will visit Rialton Heights (Fielden & Mawson, 1974) (external only). Bus to Newquay Aviation Museum via Duchy development at Nansledan (drive by). You will be able to pre-order lunch at the Museum and have time to look around. Bus to Bedruthan Steps Vintage Fair, where we will have around an hour to browse and pick up a souvenir! Bus to Trevose Head for Polventon (Crowe & Careless, 1936 for Rick Stein's father)(external only) and an hour at the Mother Ivey Bay RNLI Station (2006) for a guided tour. Return to Newquay for 1730 - we will try and fit in with any public transport so please do let us know if you need to catch a flight or a specific train (we will ask the bus to drop off at Newquay station & airport, and at if needs be on its way back west). The cost for the weekend is £85 for members, and £100 for non-members. Suggestions for hotels can also be found on the booking page.
