These Sunday: Sirach 35:1214, 1618; Psalm 34:23, 1718, 19, 23 people have seen his miracles; no doubt some of them have [7a]; 2 Timothy 4:68, 1618; Luke 18:914 personally benefited from his healing power. They have been Monday: Ephesians 2:1922; Psalm 19:23, 45 [5a]; Luke delighted by what they have seen, and they want more. After 6:1216 fifteen miles or so, they are going to call out for wonders: Tuesday: Romans 8:1825; Psalm 126:1b2ab, 2cd3, 45, 6 “Please bring salvation!” M “Reveal your victory!” But before [3a]; Luke 13:1821 they have even gone one mile, they are faced with the Wednesday: Romans 8:2630; Psalm 13:45, 6 [6a]; Luke possibility of a striking miracle: Bartimaeus wants Jesus to 13:2230 restore his sight. Whereupon a lot of these people who want Thursday: Romans 8:31b39; Psalm 109:2122, 2627, 3031 more miracles, try to prevent a miracle! By some perverse [26b]; Luke 13:3135 instinct, they tell Bartimaeus to be quiet. Do they suppose Friday: Revelation 7:24, 914; Psalm 24:1bc2, 34ab, 56 Bartimaeus is beyond Jesus’ power to heal? Selections from the Supplement to the Liturgy of the Hours for the Order of Preachers A Draft Translation of the Proprium Officiorum Ordinis Praedicatorum (1982) for Study and Consultation: Dominican Liturgical Commission, U.S.A. Chicago, 1991 DIFFERENT ELEMENTS IN THE OFFICES: Historical Notes 25. In accord with the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours a short biographical note has been placed at the beginning of the proper Office of each Saint or Blessed. As is the case for some Propers of certain religious families and dioceses, these short biographical notices were written in a fuller manner and edited according to contemporary historico-critical findings by the office of the Postulator General of the Order." Thus, the desire of many has been satisfied, namely, the desire for spiritual nourishment, not only from the second readings of the Office of Readings, but also from the biographical note which describes the unique characteristics of the spiritual life, the teaching, or the pastoral activity of the Saint or Blessed. These notes can serve as an initial introduction to the Saint or Blessed or as a homiletic aid, as well as a source for personal meditation. General Introduction, p. xxxiv.
