  • The Orkney Hotel Whisky Menu
THE ORKNEY HOTEL WHISKY MENU ORKNEY MALTS Orkney’s rugged and windswept character has shaped some of Scotland’s most distinct and warming malt whiskies. Highland Park 12yr (40%) From Scotland’s northernmost distillery comes a full flavoured Malt. With a nose of malt, sherry and peat, a palate of smoke, heather and other earthy elements. Highland Park 15yr (43%) Highland Park 15 has a remarkable complex nose with notes of camphor, peat and citrus fruits and flowers. The drying sensation on the finish leaves a rich smoky feeling and the immediate desire to refill your glass. Highland Park 18yr (43%) Burnished gold in colour with a rich, mature oak and aromatic smoke aroma. It has a rich, full flavour, honey and peat taste and a soft, round and long finish. Highland Park 21yr (47.5%) Drawing its incredible character from predominantly American oak casks which have been seasoned with sherry, this 21 year old is a truly dynamic whisky with an intensely fruity and spicy centre, surrounded by complex layers of candied orange peel, dark chocolate and rich, slightly drier smoke. A malt that rewards patience and delivers experience like no other. Highland Park 25yr (50.7%) With its golden dark red colour and very rich, mature oak, chocolate fudge aroma, this whisky is universally acclaimed, by the critics as one of the great single malts. It has a full, rich burst of flavours, soft honey and nutty toffee and a long and surprisingly sweet finish for its age. Highland Park 30yr (48.1%) 30 years ago after deciding to lay down the casks that would go on to become the heart of this exceptional whisky and over these 3 decades, the whisky maturing inside them has developed an outstanding balance, with a seductive sweetness and extremely delicate smoke.

  • Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan Report by Director of Development and Infrastructure
Agenda The Highland Council 6. Item Sutherland County Committee Report SCC/ Caithness Committee No 19/16 30 August 2016 31 August 2016 Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan Report by Director of Development and Infrastructure Summary This report presents a summary of issues raised in comments received on the Proposed Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan (CaSPlan) and seeks approval for the Council’s response to these issues and next steps. In accordance with the Council’s Scheme of Delegation, the two Local Committees are asked to consider the report and decide on these matters. The recommended Council position is to defend the Proposed Plan, subject to only minor modifications, which would mean that the next stage would be submission to Ministers and progression to Examination. Other options would involve further consultation on a Modified Plan. The report explains the implications of each way forward. 1. Background 1.1 The Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan (CaSPlan) is the second of three area local development plans to be prepared by the Highland Council. Together with the Highland-wide Local Development Plan (HwLDP) and more detailed Supplementary Guidance, CaSPlan will form part of the Council’s Development Plan against which planning decisions will be made in the Caithness and Sutherland area. 1.2 The Proposed Plan consultation for CaSPlan ran from 22 January to 18 March 2016. Around 201 organisations or individuals responded, raising around 636 comments. This includes a few comments received on the associated Proposed Action Programme. All these comments have been published on the development plans consultation portal consult.highland.gov.uk.

Representations* received on Deposit Draft Local Plan - November 28 2008 to January 23 2009 Consultation *NB - Includes text of previous representation where appropriate. Representee Comment Whole Policy Text WS General Comment Scottish Water In relation to the Local Plan Map Booklet, we welcome the inclusion of the table prepared for each settlement, suggesting the level of capacity for both water and sewerage treatment. A detailed assessment of the proposed site allocations provided in the map booklet has been undertaken in terms of capacity and future capacity1 of Scottish Water’s infrastructure to accommodate the level of development detailed within the local plan. The capacity data section in the map booklet appears to be consistent with our assessment and the planned future development of our infrastructure. Scottish Natural Heritage Master Planning and Design Statements SNH recommends that relevant PANs such as PAN83 Masterplanning, PAN68 Design Statements are referred to and their requirements consistently applied in relation to housing allocations within1 the Local Plan. DEPOSIT DRAFT NOV 08 RESPONSE - Not done – but para 2.6 1st b/p advises applicants to check the Scottish Government website for current PANs – which are listed in topic order – and SNH has no further comments on this. Scottish Natural Heritage Renewable energy, and some other development related issues will, SNH understands, be taken forward soon in policy terms through the Highland-wide Local Development Plan in order that they can be considered at the Highland rather than at any Area level.

Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 The Highland Council Report of the Public Local Inquiry Into Objections to the Ross & Cromarty East Local Plan Volume 1 Key Issues, Strategy and General Policies and Landward Area Reporter: TREVOR A CROFT BSc DipTRP ARSGS FRSA MRTPI Date of Inquiry: 7 June -7 July 2005 File Reference: IQD/2/H/26 1 Foreword Foreword to the Report BACKGROUND TO THE REPORT 1. “The Highland Structure Plan Written Statement” (referred to throughout this report as ‘the structure plan’) was published in March 2000. It was approved by Scottish Ministers and became operative in March 2001. 2. In February 2000 the Highland Council (referred to as ‘the council’) gave notice of the intention to prepare a local plan for Ross and Cromarty East. Once adopted the plan would replace the four previously adopted local plans, namely: The Black Isle Local Plan, adopted in 1985; The Invergordon Local Plan, adopted in April 1986; The Mid Ross Local Plan adopted 1990; and The Easter Ross Local Plan, adopted 1992 3. Initial consultations and workshops were held, and in June 2002 a consultation draft, which was published. After a period of public consultation the council agreed changes and a Deposit Draft Ross and Cromarty east Local Plan was published in October 2004. Following a further period of consultation the council considered all the objections to the plan and proposed changes were published on 4 February 2005. Objections to these changes were submitted by 18 March 2005. 4. On 8 October 2004, I was appointed by the council to conduct a public local inquiry into objections properly received but not withdrawn into the deposit draft plan.

The landscape is internationally renowned, so its importance extends far beyond the Park boundaries. The North Loch Lomond area is characterised by a vast and open sense of place and long dramatic vistas. The loch narrows north of Inveruglas and has a highland glen character with narrow and uneven sides and huge craggy slopes. The forests and woodlands along the loch shores contrast with surrounding uplands to create a landscape of high scenic value. The Loch Lomond Islands are unique landscape features with a secluded character, they tend to be densely wooded and knolly and hummocky in form. The upland hills, which include Ben Lomond and Ben Vorlich, surrounding Loch Lomond provide a dramatic backdrop to the loch. The upland hills are largely undeveloped and have an open and wild sense of place. However, there are exceptions, with evidence of pylons and masts on some hills and recreational pressures causing the erosion of footpaths on some of the more popular peaks.
