DELIGHT in OUR HOUSE LIBATIONS “Inspire Me, ’Til I Lisp An’ Wink” DELIGHT IN OUR HOUSE LIBATIONS “Inspire me, ’til I lisp an’ wink” THE BOBBY BURNS DINING AND COCKTAIL ROOM, 1938 In 1938, after the repeal of Prohibition, the Tam O’Shanter was asked by its guests to make space for drinking wine and cocktails. So we expanded the restaurant by purchasing the grocery store next door and built the Tam O’Shanter’s first cocktail lounge and bar, the Bobby Burns Dining and Cocktail Room, as well as additional dining rooms. In the late ’30s you could buy a pint of California’s favorite beer, “Lucky Lager,” for fifteen cents and a glass of wine for fifty cents. Times may have changed prices, but they haven’t changed the good times we have with our mates. We’re proud to be in our 10th decade of continuous service, and we’re proud to welcome you to Los Angeles’ oldest established permanent non-floating restaurant still operated by its founders’ younger kinsmen. Guid Health! The Frank and Van de Kamp Families FEATURED FLIGHTS The Great Wall O’ Scotch In the 1950’s The Tam O’Shanter installed a Great Wall O’ Scotch to showcase bottles Lawrence Frank and Walter Van de Kamp collected on thier trips abroad. Three years ago we brought back The Great Wall of Scotch as a nod to our past and a reminder to our guests that we are now again, THE destination in the United States for Scotland’s oldest and dearest export. We have collected over 200 offerings from Scotland and a hundred or so more from around the globe. • The Orkney Hotel Whisky Menu
THE ORKNEY HOTEL WHISKY MENU ORKNEY MALTS Orkney’s rugged and windswept character has shaped some of Scotland’s most distinct and warming malt whiskies. Highland Park 12yr (40%) From Scotland’s northernmost distillery comes a full flavoured Malt. With a nose of malt, sherry and peat, a palate of smoke, heather and other earthy elements. Highland Park 15yr (43%) Highland Park 15 has a remarkable complex nose with notes of camphor, peat and citrus fruits and flowers. The drying sensation on the finish leaves a rich smoky feeling and the immediate desire to refill your glass. Highland Park 18yr (43%) Burnished gold in colour with a rich, mature oak and aromatic smoke aroma. It has a rich, full flavour, honey and peat taste and a soft, round and long finish. Highland Park 21yr (47.5%) Drawing its incredible character from predominantly American oak casks which have been seasoned with sherry, this 21 year old is a truly dynamic whisky with an intensely fruity and spicy centre, surrounded by complex layers of candied orange peel, dark chocolate and rich, slightly drier smoke. A malt that rewards patience and delivers experience like no other. Highland Park 25yr (50.7%) With its golden dark red colour and very rich, mature oak, chocolate fudge aroma, this whisky is universally acclaimed, by the critics as one of the great single malts. It has a full, rich burst of flavours, soft honey and nutty toffee and a long and surprisingly sweet finish for its age. Highland Park 30yr (48.1%) 30 years ago after deciding to lay down the casks that would go on to become the heart of this exceptional whisky and over these 3 decades, the whisky maturing inside them has developed an outstanding balance, with a seductive sweetness and extremely delicate smoke.

Established in 2010, the International Whisky Competition has grown into the most followed whisky competition with over 30,000 fans, one of the most serious and professional whisky competition in the world. Unlike other spirits competitions we only focus on whisk(e)y and we ensure each winner gets the special attention they deserve. What to expect when entering the International Whisky Competition: • Unique medal for each winner featuring the category in which the whisky won. These medals are coveted among master distillers and are recognized by whisky fans to have a significant meaning. • Each winning whisky also receives a superior quality certificate to showcase in your distillery. • Each entry is rated on a 100 point basis and we offer sticker badges for score of over 85 points. We do not publicly disclose the score of anything below 85. • Proper attention given to your whisky as each judge is presented with one whisky at a time. In-depth notes are taken at every step including various aromas and flavours. • Each distillery and the whiskies entered will be listed in the 2020 International Whisky Guide. • A Scotch Whisky Primer
ARDBEG Voted World’s Best Whisky 2008 & 2009 by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. This article was originally published online at www.nicks.com.au A Scotch Whisky Primer What is Scotch Whisky? Today, Scotch whisky is one of the world’s leading spirit drinks and also regarded by many as the world’s most ‘noble’ spirit. It is exported to about 200 different markets and frequently outsells every other spirit category. Made from the most elemental of ingredients, water and barley, it has become inextricably woven into the fabric of Scotland’s history, culture and customs. Indeed, there are few products which are so closely related to the land of their birth than ‘Scotch’. For Scots, it is the drink of welcome and of farewell, and much in between. With a dram babies are ushered into the world and guests to the house. In the days when distances were traveled only with difficulty, a jug of whisky was left out for any tradesmen who might call. Business deals were sealed with a dram. All manner of small ailments have been eased with whisky - from children’s teething, to colds and flu. Depart- ing guests were offered a deoch an doruis, the ‘dram at the door’ - in modern terms ‘one for the road’. The dead-departed are remembered and wished Godspeed with large quantities of whisky. As Charles Shields puts it: “...without an appreciation of whisky, I think a visitor to Scotland misses the true beauty of the country; whisky and Scotland are inseparably intertwined.” The word ‘whisky’ originates from the Scots Gaelic word “Uisge Beatha” meaning the ‘water of life’, Anglicised over time to ‘Whiskybae’ until finally being shorten to ‘Whisky’.

The landscape is internationally renowned, so its importance extends far beyond the Park boundaries. The North Loch Lomond area is characterised by a vast and open sense of place and long dramatic vistas. The loch narrows north of Inveruglas and has a highland glen character with narrow and uneven sides and huge craggy slopes. The forests and woodlands along the loch shores contrast with surrounding uplands to create a landscape of high scenic value. The Loch Lomond Islands are unique landscape features with a secluded character, they tend to be densely wooded and knolly and hummocky in form. The upland hills, which include Ben Lomond and Ben Vorlich, surrounding Loch Lomond provide a dramatic backdrop to the loch. The upland hills are largely undeveloped and have an open and wild sense of place. However, there are exceptions, with evidence of pylons and masts on some hills and recreational pressures causing the erosion of footpaths on some of the more popular peaks.
