#glaadawards MARCH 16, 2013 NEW YORK NEW YORK MARRIOTT MARQUIS APRIL 20, 2013 LOS AnGELES JW MARRIOTT LOS AnGELES MAY 11, 2013 SAN FRANCISCO HILTON SAN FRANCISCO - UnION SQUARE CONNECT WITH US CORPORATE PARTNERS PRESIDENT’S LETTer NOMINEE SELECTION PROCESS speCIAL HONOrees NOMINees SUPPORT FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Thank you for joining us to celebrate fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the media. Tonight, as we recognize outstanding achievements and bold visions, we also take pause to remember the impact of our most powerful tool: our voice. The past year in news, entertainment and online media reminds us that our stories are what continue to drive equality forward. When four states brought marriage equality to the election FROM THE PRESIDENT ballot last year, GLAAD stepped forward to help couples across the nation to share messages of love and commitment that lit the way for landmark victories in Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington. Now, the U.S. Supreme Court will weigh in on whether same- sex couples should receive the same federal protections as straight married couples, and GLAAD is leading the media narrative and reshaping the way Americans view marriage equality. Because of GLAAD’s work, the Boy Scouts of America is closer than ever before to ending its discriminatory ban on gay scouts and leaders. GLAAD is empowering people like Jennifer Tyrrell – an Ohio mom who was ousted as leader of her son’s Cub Scouts pack – to share their stories with top-tier national news outlets, helping Americans understand the harm this ban inflicts on gay youth and families. -

Abstracts for 2015 Student Research Conference
Abstracts for 2015 Student Research Conference Abston, Summer "Architectural Reformation Of Educational Institutions" (Shahnaz Aly) Children serve as an important factor concerning the future of this world. In order to positively impact our future we must start with education by addressing daily function in schools. The aim of this research is to create an environment that is conducive not only for performance but also for health. This is accomplished by appealing to sensory elements. Studies show that by increasing natural lighting and controlling the acoustics, learning can be improved. Health is a vital aspect in producing an environment for learning. By increasing ventilation and not using hazardous materials, such as VOCs and BPAs, adverse health effects can be averted. Materials can serve a dualistic purpose of appealing through sensory perception and meeting sustainability goals. Additionally, materials can also aid in code compliance. Certain types of glass offer a myriad of benefits for regulation and security advances. Moreover, through better selection of materials, schools can improve their educational environment and prevent sick building syndrome all while becoming more sustainable and accommodating to building codes. This presentation will highlight the topics that were adopted in the design of a high school. Abston, Summer; Aly, Shahnaz; "Observational Sketching As A Platform To Improve Sketching Techniques" (Shahnaz Aly) Architecture is a very visual discipline that involves sketching and drawing as a means of visual expression. However, the computer has become the preferred design tool for most designers and architects. Through the transition of traditional to digitals drawing tools, programs have become so sophisticated that they virtually require no thought from the user, making hand sketching a thing of the past. -

1997 Sundance Film Festival Awards Jurors
1997 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL The 1997 Sundance Film Festival continued to attract crowds, international attention and an appreciative group of alumni fi lmmakers. Many of the Premiere fi lmmakers were returning directors (Errol Morris, Tom DiCillo, Victor Nunez, Gregg Araki, Kevin Smith), whose earlier, sometimes unknown, work had received a warm reception at Sundance. The Piper-Heidsieck tribute to independent vision went to actor/director Tim Robbins, and a major retrospective of the works of German New-Wave giant Rainer Werner Fassbinder was staged, with many of his original actors fl own in for forums. It was a fi tting tribute to both Fassbinder and the Festival and the ways that American independent cinema was indeed becoming international. Gillian Robespierre on Getting a Movie Made
February 2, 2017 - Writer/Director Gillian Robespierre is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker, born and raised in New York City. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts, Film & Video Program. Her first feature, Obvious Child premiered at Sundance in 2014. The film got a nod for the year's "Best Discovery" on iTunes and she won Best Directorial Debut from the National Board of Review. Her second feature Landline premiered at Sundance in 2017 and was sold to Amazon. She did not vote for Trump. As told to Brandon Stosuy, 2484 words. Tags: Film, Collaboration, Anxiety, Beginnings. Gillian Robespierre on getting a movie made The writer and director of Obvious Child and Landline talks about crisis and sadness in comedy, the importance of collaboration, and why finishing a second movie isn’t any easier than finishing the first. When I reached out to you, I said I wanted to talk about crisis and sadness in your comedy. At first you wanted to go in a different direction, but you changed your mind. At first I was afraid of your question, because I thought it was too early to analyze the new movie, Landline, and compare it to Obvious Child. I’m also so early in my career. I was nervous to explore it, but then sitting with my writing partner, Elizabeth Holm, and my editor, Casey Brooks, talking about comedy, talking about digging out what really matters in this scene, it dawned on me how important crisis and sadness is in my type of comedy, and how it’s important in storytelling. -
