We have documents in our archives (among them a letter by Olave Baden-Powell herself) proving that Guiding thrived in Cyprus from 1913, when the island was a British colony. The Girl Guides Association of Cyprus was formed in 1960 along with the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus. It is a girls-only organisation which numbers more than 1,400 members of all ages, as follows: Chrysalides ages 5-6, Butterflies ages 7-9, Guides ages 10-12, Sea-Air-Forest Guides ages 13-15, Senior Guides and Prospective Leaders ages 16-18, Young Leaders (among them members of the Youth Council) ages 19-35, As GGA of Cyprus we have a long history of organising international events: Volunteer Leaders and other groups. 1. I know what a strain this has been on all our Leaders and I am proud to have witnessed the supreme efforts you have made to keep the show on the road,. One off the few duties I have had to undertake as Chair of Cotswold Vale District is the scrutiny of Risk Assessments and I am greatly impressed at the amount of work all of our Leaders have put in and the detail to which they have paid attention in ensuring all involved remain safe, yet are able to enjoy the excitement of the event. It is disappointing, however, that I have received for this magazine only a miniscule amount reflecting what has actually been done. Not a single picture! It would have been nice to advertise it.

  • Background and Concepts of the Promise and Law for Trainers
Background and concepts of the Promise and Law for Trainers 1 Background and concept of the Promise and Law for © The Guide Association 2013 www.girlguiding.org.uk Trainers Introduction Girlguiding provides a framework to support the development of personal values. This framework is set out in the Guide Promise and the Guide Law. The Promise has evolved over the years in order to recognise the involvement of members of all faiths and none in guiding. We understand that for young people, as for adults at different times in their life, beliefs take different forms, which are not always about organised religion. No member is required to follow any particular faith. Instead, guiding encourages its members to develop positive personal values and the self-awareness, self-respect and self-confidence to make their own decisions. Members also Promise to ‘serve the Queen and my community’. At the very minimum, this means they are pledging to obey the laws of the land. However, it means much more than that. It is more than just a Promise not to be a bad citizen – it is a Promise to try to be a good and active citizen. In 1908 Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting and Guiding, had strong beliefs and convictions including a strong sense of stewardship of the earth and all living things and the value of small groups working and playing together. Out of Baden-Powell’s convictions grew the Scout Promise and Law from which the Girl Guide Promise was slightly modified. The Promise and the Law gives a purpose and a new meaning to life.

2018-2020 TRIENNIAL REPORT WORLD CONFERENCE DOCUMENT #6A COVID-19 PANDEMIC: WAGGGS RESPONSE TO COVID-19 COVID-19, and its global impact, became the all-encompassing focal point for 2020. For the girl, the pandemic created huge social, emotional, health and financial anxiety, and even now, we are still only beginning to understand its true scale. Girls, volunteers and leaders from around the Movement responded quickly. They came together to support communities, create essential equipment for frontline workers, deliver food and care packages for the elderly and the vulnerable, all the while remaining a collective beacon of light. The pandemic also drove Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting worldwide to pause in-person activities in its near entirety and, move, where possible to an online offering. It has put immense strain on our Members; as a Movement, we were not sufficiently web-ready, many Members do not have the financial and organisational resources needed to weather this period, and the financial uncertainty caused by the economic slowdown has in turn affected workforce and income sources. Like many of our Members, WAGGGS too as an Organisation has been deeply impacted by the pandemic. We took the decision in March 2020 to close all of our World Centres and, in April, we closed both the World Bureau in London and the Brussels office. Where available, we placed nearly half of our eligible staff into government-supported job protection programmes. We adapted our staff and organisational model to ensure that we could continue to meet the immediate
