Polizia di Stato Scherma: Coppa del mondo cremisi con Vezzali e Di Francisca sul podio Valentina Vezzali colpisce ancora. Per la terza volta consecutiva in meno di un mese la fiorettista delle Fiamme oro ha conquistato il podio più alto in Coppa del mondo. Dopo Salisburgo e Danzica Valentina ha trionfato anche nella tappa di Torino, dove il 6 marzo ha vinto il torneo individuale del Gran premio Fie (Federazione internazionale di scherma). In finale la "poliziotta con il fioretto" ha incontrato una vecchia conoscenza, la coreana Hyun Hee Nam, sconfitta anche nella finale olimpica di Pechino 2008. La campionessa azzurra ha vinto col punteggio di 13 a 12, dopo un incontro molto intenso ed emozionante, risolto all'ultima stoccata del minuto supplementare. Ancora una volta Valentina ha incontrato, in semifinale, la sua "collega" delle Fiamme oro, Elisa Di Francisca, risolvendo il derby a proprio favore. Nonostante il buon match di Elisa, la campionessa olimpica ha fatto valere la sua esperienza chiudendo l'incontro sul 13 a 12, relegando la compagna di squadra sul terzo posto. Il podio della Coppa del mondo si è di nuovo colorato di cremisi, con due atlete del Gruppo sportivo della Polizia di Stato che hanno sollevato la coppa. Le ragazze delle Fiamme oro hanno conquistato anche la vittoria nel torneo a squadre: Valentina Vezzali ed Elisa Di Francisca insieme ad Arianna Errigo e Ilaria Salvatori hanno battuto il team russo per 45 a 17, dopo aver sconfitto Portorico, Giappone e Cina. Grande soddisfazione del gruppo azzurro nelle parole del Commissario tecnico Stefano Cerioni: "Queste ragazze sono magnifiche - ha dichiarato il tecnico delle Fiamme oro - E' difficile trovare un aggettivo che non sia stato già utilizzato per una formazione che, dopo la sconfitta all'olimpiade di Pechino, non ha più perduto un solo assalto. Both the fencers use swords to attack the opponent and to defend self. There are some rules and regulations which the players have to follow while attacking or defending. Three different groups of weapons are used in fencing and each weapon has its own set of rules and regulations. Most of the fencers select one so as to specialise in using any one of these weapons. This is a sword exerting game where two fencers try to touch each other with the tip of their sword. The main objective of this game is to touch the other player and score enough points required to win the game before the opposite player scores points. There are different approved target zones based on the weapon used and players have to touch those target zones to score points. A Brief History of Fencing Fencing was initiated in the 12th century though the oldest surviving manual on swordsmanship dates around 1300. In ancient days in Rome and Egypt, fencing was quite popular and was an essential part of life in the form of swordsmanship. In the middle age, i.e. around 1400, the use of armours was introduced in order to make the game more defensive and interesting. Le ragazze d'oro della scherma si sono raccontate sul palco del Festival dello Sport strappando applausi e conquistando nuovi sguardi ammirati per la loro determinata grazia. Una collezione infinita di medaglie. Una vera e propria «gioielleria». Il fioretto italiano e la scherma femminile più in generale hanno avuto il giusto palcoscenico al teatro Sociale nella terza giornata del Festival per celebrare trent’anni di trionfi: 19 medaglie olimpiche, 9 delle quali sono ori. Il fioretto femminile padrone del mondo, tanto che oggi i nostri allenatori vanno all’estero perché le nazioni rivali vogliono colmare questo ormai storico gap. La «cantera» di questi decenni è la palestra di Jesi in cui sono cresciute e maturate Giovanna Trillini, Valentina Vezzali, Elisa Di Francisca.
