    CUMULATIVE INDEX to Czech Music and Other Society Journals: 1974-1994 Abstracted by Richard Beith Issue 2 July 1995 INTRODUCTION The Dvořák Society has always published a journal since the Society was founded in 1974. In the early years, the format and title changed frequently, but the name Czech Music has been used since 1978 and the familiar A5 format has been in use since 1980. Journal size has varied from the first issue, a single sheet of foolscap, printed on both sides, to the latest issue with 192 A5 size pages. Up until the Autumn 1987 issue, Czech Music also contained the “current information” listing concert dates, latest record news and forthcoming Society events. Since 1988 the entirely separate Newsletter has been published to cover such “current information”. Ephemeral items such as crosswords, concert announcements and new record issue news are omitted from the index, particularly such information appearing in the Journals prior to 1988, i.e. before the introduction of the separate Newsletter. The titles of articles, as printed, have occasionally been expanded by additional explanations in parenthesis. For example, “Music to Dismember” referring to cuts in live performances of Dvořák’s works now has the added comment: (Performance Cuts). Titles of musical works have generally been left in the language of the original articles, Czech, English or Slovak as appropriate. As the journals have not been given continuous pagination within one volume, i.e., as every separate issue starts with a page 1, a very full reference is given, egg: “March 74 1:1:1” = March 1974 issue, Volume 1, No 1, article starting on page 1; Summer 1993 18:1:87 = Summer 1993 issue, Volume 18, No 1, article starting on page 87.

    holiday 2006-2007 vol xv · no 4 music · worship · arts Prismyale institute of sacred music common ground for scholarship and practice Helmuth Rilling to Conduct Bach Choral Masterworks Helmuth Rilling, the world renowned conductor, teacher, and Bach scholar, will present a series of lecture/concerts, culminating in a full performance of several choral masterworks of J.S. Bach. The series, entitled Reflections on Bach: Music for Christmas Day 1723, will be presented over three days. The lecture/concerts will consist of talks with musical illustrations, followed by a performance of the work. Part I (Christen, ätzet diesen Tag) will take place on Thursday, January 18 at 8 pm at Sprague Memorial Hall, 470 College St., in New Haven, with Part II (Magnificat in Eb) the following evening (Friday, January 19) at 8pm, also at Sprague Memorial Hall. Tickets for the lecture/concerts are free, and available at 203-432-4158. On Saturday, January 20, there will be a concert performance at 8 pm at Woolsey Hall, corner College and Grove. The concert is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. Helmuth Rilling is known internationally for his lecture/ concerts, as well as for his more than 100 recordings on the Vox, Nonesuch, Columbia, Nippon, CBS, and Turnabout labels. He now records exclusively for Hänssler, for whom he has recorded the complete works of J.S. Bach on 172 CDs. Rilling is the founder of the acclaimed Gächinger Kantorei, the Oregon Bach Festival, the International Bach Academy (Stuttgart), which has been awarded the UNESCO Music Prize, and academies in Buenos Aires, Cracow, Prague, Moscow, Budapest, Santiago de Compostela, and Tokyo.

Mai 2020 – Das West-Eastern Divan Orchestra und ihr künstlerischer Leiter Daniel Barenboim werden mit dem Rheingau Musik Preis 2020 ausgezeichnet. Die durch das Rheingau Musik Festival initiierte Auszeichnung wird in diesem Jahr zum 27. Mal vergeben und ist mit 10.000 € dotiert. Das Preisgeld wird vom Hessischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst zur Verfügung gestellt. © Monika Rittershaus In der Begründung heißt es: „Daniel Barenboim ist nicht nur einer der renommiertesten Dirigenten und Künstlerpersönlichkeiten unserer Zeit, sondern auch ein großer Humanist, Freidenker und Visionär von unschätzbarem gesellschaftlichen Wert. So ist die Mitbegrün- dung und künstlerische Leitung des West-Eastern Divan Orchestra ein Zeugnis (s)eines beispiellosen Engagements für Frieden und Völkerverständigung. Mit diesem außerge- wöhnlichen Klangkörper erklingen nicht nur musikalische Sternstunden, sondern sie liefern zudem einen unschätzbaren Beitrag zur kulturellen Bildung und internationalen Integration. Aufgrund der Absage des Rheingau Musik Festivals 2020 im Zuge der Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung der Corona-Pandemie, wird die Verleihung zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt nachgeholt. In dieser Krisenzeit liegt es dem Festival ganz besonders am Herzen, den Preis dennoch zu vergeben.
