The near utilization of surface water resources has made the public and Government to look towards groundwater resources to supplement the water supply. The ever- increasing demand has resulted in the greater dependence on groundwater and consequently resulting in depletion of groundwater resources in many parts of the country. In the era of climate change, groundwater may act as a buffering resource in the time of drought and it needs to be managed more intensively to enhance its sustainability. The change in groundwater extraction and rainfall pattern necessitate periodic revision of groundwater resources assessment. The report 'National Compilation on Dynamic Groundwater Resources of India, 2017' is a compilation of State-wise assessment carried out jointly by CGWB and State Groundwater Departments at periodical intervals under the supervision of State level Committee of the respective States/UTs and under overall guidance of Central Level Expert Group. The groundwater resources of India are assessed following Groundwater Estimation Methodology, 2015, which takes care of all the relevant parameters contributing to the net annual ground water recharge and extractions for various uses.

    FactorsProc Indian Controlling Natn Sci Acad Detrital 74 No.2 Mineralogy pp. 51-56 (2008)of the Sandstone of the Lameta Formation 51 Research Paper Factors Controlling Detrital Mineralogy of the Sandstone of the Lameta Formation (Cretaceous), Jabalpur Area, Madhya Pradesh, India AHM AHMAD ANSARI*, SM SAYEED** and AF KHAN*** Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh 202 002 (UP) (Received 7 February 2008; Accepted 6 May 2008) Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) deposits of the Lameta Formation crop out along the eastern part of Jabalpur basin on isolated hills and along the banks of Narmada River near Jabalpur city. The quartzarenite composition with little amounts of feldspar, mica, rock fragments and heavy minerals, are medium to fine grained, moderately sorted to poorly sorted and subangular to subrounded. The study suggests that palaeoclimate, distance of transport and source rock composition influenced the detrital mineralogy of the sandstone. By using Suttner and Dutta diagram, the mean values of the ratio were plotted and that indicate a humid Paleoclimate in this area. The plate tectonic setting and provenance of the sandstone were interpreted using the Dickinson’s method of detrital modes and Qt-F-L, Qm-F-Lt, Qp-Lv-Ls and Qm-P-K triangular diagrams. The petrofacies analysis of the Lameta Formation suggest mainly craton interior in a rifted continental margin basin setting. The plot of various quartz types on diamond diagram after [17] reflects Plutonic terrain. The probable provenance of these sandstones is Mahakoshal and Jabalpur Groups. Brown; McMaster University – Chemistry and Chemical Biology There is a need to discover new antimicrobial drugs to combat drug-resistant infections. We are trying to find new molecules that can prevent the growth of parasites and viruses by developing and using novel chemical reactions, as well as by isolating new products from plants and fungi. This text describes a new way to make quinolines, a type of molecule found in many drugs. A molecule prepared by this method inhibited the parasite T. gondii at low concentrations. We have also identified quinazolinones, molecules that can be rapidly assembled by combining three components, which inhibit parasites and viruses. The thesis also includes a faster way to make derivatives of an antiviral molecule from daffodils, which can help determine which parts of the molecule are important for antiviral activity. We have also identified new molecules from the fungus Xylaria polymorpha and an antiviral compound from the Ficus benjamina tree.

    I THE BACKGROUND 2 1 WHY PUNJAB? Exit British, Enter Congress In 1849 the Sikh empire fell to the British army; it was the last of their conquests. Nearly a hundred years later when the British were about to relinquish India they were negotiating with three parties; namely the Congress Party largely supported by Hindus, the Muslim League representing the Muslims and the Akali Dal representing the Sikhs. Before 1849, the Satluj was the boundary between the kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and other Sikh states, such as Patiala (the largest and most influential), Nabha and Jind, Kapurthala, Faridkot, Kulcheter, Kalsia, Buria, Malerkotla (a Muslim state under Sikh protection). Territory under Sikh rulers stretched from the Peshawar to the Jamuna. Those below the Satluj were known as the Cis-Satluj states. 3 In these pre-independence negotiations, the Akalis, led by Master Tara Singh, represented the Sikhs residing in the territory which had once been Ranjit Singh’s kingdom; Yadavindra Singh, Maharaja of Patiala, spoke for the Cis- Satluj states. Because the Sikh population was thinly dispersed all over these areas, the Sikhs felt it was not possible to carve out an entirely separate Sikh state and had allied themselves with the Congress whose policy proclaimed its commitment to the concept of unilingual states with a federal structure and assured the Sikhs that “no future Constitution would be acceptable to the Congress that did not give full satisfaction to the Sikhs.” Gandhi supplemented this assurance by saying: “I ask you to accept my word and the resolution of the Congress that it will not betray a single individual, much less a community ..

PG College, Nahan, HP, India1 Abstract: Administrative geography of Himachal Pradesh has been a saga of several territorial surgeries and shuffling. This hill state has a colonial past and since its formation on April 15th, 1948 it has undergone a number of administrative readjustments and alterations. This process has been of merger of new areas and realignment of internal boundaries. This resulted into gradual increase in the geographical area of the state along with changing territorial expressions. The entire course of administrative realignment was not an arbitrary or spontaneous process but it was interplay of various cultural, politico-historical and geographical factors. In the present study, administrative history of Himachal Pradesh since 1872 to 2001 has been examined from a geographical perspective using administrative maps of different time periods prepared by Census of India. This study is primarily focused on changing nature of administrative boundaries in Himachal Pradesh. Keywords: Administrative, Hill, Politico-historical, Himachal Pradesh. I. INTRODUCTION The evidences of human occupancies in the Himalayan region can be traced back to two million years ago. As the time passed, primitive human groups organized themselves into tribal republics, which were called janapadas in Sanskrit literature. These were both a state and a cultural unit. There is a reference in the Mahabharata about four famous janapadas existing at that time in the Himalayas namely Audambara, Trigarta, Kuluta and Kunindas (Singh, 1997) [7].
